It’s only Tuesday, and already we’re buried in new developments coming from… ummm…all over the place. Should we begin with the Mark Meadows motion to move his case from state to federal court in Georgia?
I am having a moment of how in the hell did we get here? The absurd insanity of trump and his idiotic sycophants. And this guy with 90+ felony counts still considered a viable candidate for president??? Sorry, just venting out loud.
The MAGAts will never forsake him, but I think a lot of voters who were willing to give him a chance in 2016 will not vote for him again, at least those with a functioning brain.
Don't be too hopeful. In Iowa among registered Republicans almost 70% of them believe, yes, believe Trump won the election fair and square in 2020. That takes willful ignorance to the level of insanity.
And a powerful propaganda force the Democrats have almost completely failed to counter or emulate: AM right-wing radio all over dial, from 500 AM to the other end of licensed broadcasting.
And unctuously punctuated and amplified in the dialectic of dumbing-down by, guess what, nominally "Christian" stations, Yea verily, rolling in the sacred blood of a Holy Ghosting Hallelujah! for the Redeemer will smite, I say, SMITE the forces of Satan and Save 'Merica, and save the tiny babies those evil-doers want to kill, even after they are born, now caller, I unnerstan' you were saved just yesterday by my sermon on the lessons of Ezekiel's Wheel, is that so? It is, why Ezekiel saw the Wheel and God Almighty carried him UP, UP wif' the angels who watch over you, brother, and furthermore" blah blah $end only THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER, I mean of course, PIECES OF EIGHT, just as Cap'n Morgan was saved by the Blood of the Lamb in olden days:" blah blah blah....
It's like sitting on a beach watching waves of surrealism roll in, one after another after another. Each one crests, breaks, and another one aways follows. But this is no holiday.
Are they embarrassed yet? I've never seen such buffoonery combined with brass ones in my life. There has GOT to be a point in time when these morons start to become embarrassed by what they say and do. Maybe when convicted and punished...maybe.
when has being convicted and punished EVER gotten scumbags like this to change in any way, except to make them double down on their bullshit.
as to that lifelong putz Rudy, don't I remember somebody (probably Cassidy Hutchinson) talking about how people didn't want to let Rudy into the Oval Office during that big meeting on...what was it...December 20th or thereabouts because he was TOO DRUNK. somebody also mentioned that he was farting to the degree that nobody could get too close. of course, flatus doesn't make him a bad person (I speak as a man in his mid-70s, if you catch my....uhh...drift). as an old drunk, I can say that being drunk doesn't make somebody a bad person either. the combination of alcohol, gas and Being Rudy...a different story altogether. add Viagra to the mix and...well, we've read some of those transcripts.
didn't he also say "we have a theory but we're looking for evidence?" or something close?
I admit to delighting in his distress, whenever it might come. if I were a better person, I might feel sorry for him.
From America's mayor and 9-11 hero to a laughing stock. So pathetic.
I read that Trump for all his bragging and bravado and bluster is privately extremely worried about his mounting legal bills, and that he may have to start spending his own money, also about the very real possibility of conviction and jail time. Being once the president of these great United States has to be a tremendous ego booster and he didn't want to give all that up which was his downfall. Trying to hang on to power by hook or by crook attracted to him all the political hacks and nut cases who aided and abetted him, no doubt hoping for a choice position in his administration if they succeeded.
If all 330 million plus of us were reduced to one person we Dems would represent that very troubled person's conscience. If you think about it, it is mainstream media and writers like Lucian that are the voices of reason and sanity, and every single day it is a battle to keep the voices of insanity at bay. Look how many Trump supporters still think the election was stolen and that millions of people are in a 'deep state' conspiracy that controls the entire election system (even in states like Georgia where Republicans are in control. They all voted for Trump but are called RINO's now). Crazy, right?. Never mind that many Republicans got elected, evcen as Trump lost. They even believe the entire justice department is conspiring against Trump and creating fictitious crimes. If they are not insane what are they? So again, if we were all one person he /she would be schizophrenic and in need of psychiatric counseling :)
Too bad we don't have a psychologically educated Albert Camus around to write "Neither Sane Nor Insane" - a tract on the effects of relentless propaganda on the semi-educated, semi-literate, but voting populace, in the 21st century maelstroms of the United States.
Since the moment the 2020 was called by the networks, a clear of majority of registered Republican continue to fall for the Big Lie. And believe:
-Trump is 6'3" tall in his stocking feet, when soaking wet weighs in at 215lbs and was chosen by Jesus (a Mexican crew member of Four Seasons Landscaping) to be president for life and routinely shoots under par at all his golf courses whether playing right or left-handed.
-Obama is a bi-sexual Muslim birthed in some chit hole country in Africa and Michelle is a transgender man w/ovaries, a womb and a penis.
-Jan 6 was a false flag op orchestrated by Trump's FBI, Nancy Pelosi's husband, and Sen. McConnell's commie wife, Chow Chow to hide the fact Trump won the 2020 election by a lot.
I started laughing with Lucian's article, and these comments are keeping me in high spirits. I'm so glad to be a member of this community of learned and witty readers and writers! I confess to being a bit ashamed at considering the notion funny that a mob boss could be led astray by a drunk attorney, a woman who believes Chavez can change an election from the grave, and some witness who has been "internally decapitated" - but it IS funny.
I am now wondering if the next delay, delay, delay strategy is to fire one attorney after another, then demand time for the "newbie" to get up to speed on the billions of mile-high documents. Wouldn't surprise me.
Since As Trump Turns would fail as both a novel and as a soap, the only plausible option is to weave together various genres of comedy to include mockumentary, burlesque, shock, and deadpan, from different perspectives into one hot mess, then serve it up w/o warning.
you left out the notion that Nancy Pelosi is a corrupt alcoholic and her husband is both alcoholic and gay. the attack that left him with a fractured skull was the work of an angry hustler. I got this from my friend upstairs. when I mentioned the video (which for some reason--ha-ha--never appeared in his feed).
and of course, the cops at the Capitol WELCOMED the "demonstrators," because they were aware that they were being directed by secret Feds in the crowd. the proof seems to be that no one in law enforcement got shot. and then on to the martyred Ashli Babbitt...
when you actually start to follow this narrative (especially in the absence of any alternative narrative), you can see how it works...it's a feedback loop and a closed system. very, very easy to fall into the rabbit hole.
that it's so easy to begin embracing this insane narrative is very, very scary.
Is mind boggling, isn't it? Like you have contact with a few MAGAites. They have a question or answer for anything and everything. In their minds, makes total sense yet is total nonsense.
Yes, the feedback loop is very frightening. Nothing penetrates it, not even death. Is easier to crack a religious cult than MAGA's due to the sheer numbers and the internet/social media. Is a clear and present danger to friends, family members, co-workers, and to the Republic.
Name of Geoff Duncan didn't seem familiar so I looked him up. He ceased to be Lt. Governor on January 9, 2023.
The current Lt. Governor is Burt Jones. "According to Act 38 in the Georgia election racketeering prosecution and @burtjonesforga on X, Jones is unindicted co-conspirator Individual 8 in that case." (Wikipedia)
Maybe Gym Jordan can do an in-depth investigation of how Democrats tricked Rudy into thinking he was at the swanky hotel and not a landscaping business. Hunter was probably behind it all, encouraged by that criminal master mind Joe. Someday this will all make a great mini-series, if we survive it.
*Rump, especially, and his ilk are so shamelessly mendacious as to be beyond embarrassment. Every lawyer who represents him should probably be disbarred, or just wear a dunce cap in the corner. If the average national IQ were about ten points higher, and the MSM had more integrity (I’d settle for ‘some’) we wouldn’t be treated to this unending clown act. By the time he’s through Jack Smith will have exposed many peccadillos, not just Giuliano’s alcoholism. Emperor Rudy’s sorry marital history is already quite well known, but I’m betting there’s more. Eastman and Powell are probably rich sources of wrongdoing aside from their indictments.
The more I read about this army of lawyers Trump employs or has employed, the more obvious it becomes that none of them are working in his best interest-(now hear me out..I'm not a Trump fan, either) They're all going along for the ride, and they're throwing shit out the door of the bus before they can throw each other under it.
They want to all become famous (it's a disease) and by working for Trump they all get famous but in the worst way possible.
Michael Cohen warned them all before this started to stay away from Trump because he would destroy their careers without a glance backward.
“I did the same thing that you’re doing now for 10 years. I protected Mr. Trump for 10 years,” he said. “The more people that follow Mr. Trump, as I did blindly, are going to follow the same consequences that I’m suffering,” he said.
Now they're (for the most part) all under indictment, being disbarred and sued. This is what working for Donald Trump pays off-in spades. They will learn to never trust a con man again.
Rudy's always been for himself above all else, and I love that he's going down in flames-he's reportedly nearly broke and Trump won't pay for his legal fees, either.
Cohen was a lot of things, but he sure nailed Donald Trump and any lawyer who defends him now is playing with fire.
In their defense (did I really say that?), Trump has a long-running reputation for not taking any advice he doesn't agree with. That does leave unanswered the question of why any competent lawyer would take a gig under those circumstances.
Remain shocked and even more curious that not a single well-known First Amendment atty/scholar or a single well-known Constitutional atty/scholar specializing in executive powers ever joined Team Trump on principle alone. Could be Team Trump made no such inquiries or outreach and/or waiting until appeal(s).
John Eastman is a Constitutional attorney and was Dean of Chapmen Law School. He’s currently under threat of disbarment in California and is one of the nineteen defendants in the Georgia case.
True. His motive was not to defend Trump, not to defend political speech nor to respect the 2nd Constitution and US Code rather to come up with a combo of extra-legal, extra-judicial and extra-Constitutional ways for Trump to "win" the necessary electoral votes. He is the opposite of being principled, no?
Late edit: Eastman clerked for AJ Thomas and Ginni stays in touch with her hubbie's past and current law clerks.
I don't think any scholar/lawyer would dare even think about such an venture, because Trump doesn't listen (often) to his lawyers and most of them are pretty incompetent from what I can see. I wouldn't want to have any of them representing me or my interests in federal court.
Trump attracts the mediocre lawyers-the ones who know their actual job he has to pay a retainer before they join-otherwise they wouldn't consider it. Ask Ty Cobb about that..
American jurisprudence (beginning w/Adams-Boston Massacre) has a long history of attys taking on horrific cases and awful defendants on principle and when there are profound legal and constitutional issues. The "Boxes Hoax", the DC Jan6th case and the GA case all fall under those criteria.
Or said another way, the unprecedented nature of all3 plus the fact the defendant's charged crimes include when in and when as out of office present an opportunity to affirm no wo/man is above or below the law. Has to be tempting to certain attorneys and scholars no matter how awful the client or circumstances. Surprised a Christian law school hasn't stepped up. Point being, (a) want him to receive the best defense so if or when he loses (inc appeals) it is widely accepted by a chunk of his supporters and enablers (b) not a fan of [un]civil war or flare ups of random political violence because MAGAites on FNC and other conservative media claim he didn't receive proper legal representation.
FTR: seen [un]civil war and political violence. It's indiscriminate killing takes many GENs to wash away some of the hate. My concern is if the Republican Party re-examines its current position on what is and what isn't valid political discourse. These cases could hasten just that. Emphasis could.
Absolutely right, Mary. These lawyers are all on board the Dumpster Train for one thing: the book deals following the trials. Of course, they're all assuming their books will sell well, and they might. It's certain I'll never buy or read one.
“Was he innocently oblivious or obviously drunk? That is the question of the moment.” Cannot both be true? Regardless, in addition to the Four Seasons Landscaping it was a great source of mirth. One of the few bright spots on that bleak November day. Great post, Lucian!
I recall seeing a clip of Steve Bannon declaring before the election that if Trump lost, he was just going to declare himself the winner anyway. We were forewarned.
Well, jeez, Rudy has been schnockered for a coupla' decades now. (I hope that his pickled brain winds up in a jar at some medical school.) Then there is the issue of Trump relying on legal advice from someone others could see was most often loaded. This speaks to 45's judgment as much as it does Rudy's broken blood vessels.
As for Mr. T.s namechecking former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, she caught my attention right away when, as a lawyer investigating Trump University in Florrible, her campaign received $25,000 from Trump's *charity*! She was his kind of professional. I always thought she and Kayleigh McEnany could've been sisters.
The sheer buffoonery and bizarreness of Rudy and dear Sydney especially never ceases to floor me. That whole Four Seasons press conference thing was hilarious and weird. These nutcases are trying to take over the country?
I am having a moment of how in the hell did we get here? The absurd insanity of trump and his idiotic sycophants. And this guy with 90+ felony counts still considered a viable candidate for president??? Sorry, just venting out loud.

Or uterus. The abortion issue may be key.

“Functioning brain” is a very tall order.
It's like sitting on a beach watching waves of surrealism roll in, one after another after another. Each one crests, breaks, and another one aways follows. But this is no holiday.
THAT, dif is pretty fucking eloquent. imagine an applause emoji!
I'm sure as shit gonna quote it all over the place. and always with attribution. I promise.
Such a high compliment, David! Thanks so much.
Are they embarrassed yet? I've never seen such buffoonery combined with brass ones in my life. There has GOT to be a point in time when these morons start to become embarrassed by what they say and do. Maybe when convicted and punished...maybe.
Probably never.
Definitely never

some very good writing above, Lucian.
I believe what Rudy said was, “We have lots of theories--we just don’t have any evidence.”
Never.
Nah
The short answer is no. If they were capable of embarrassment, they would have stopped their shenanigans long ago.
This has inspired me to wear tomorrow, my "Four Seasons Total Landscaping not the Four Seasons Hotel" t shirt, featuring the Philly Fanatic.

I like the way you think.
(am grateful)
If I had any artistic ability, I would make a graphic novel out of this. :-)
Sums it up neatly doesn’t it?!

Lol!
Nailed it! :)
This piece is truly a keeper! Thanks for clearing the air.

Apropos of nothing, but I just love that the lt. governor of Georgia, Geoff Duncan, has said Trump has the moral compass of an axe murderer.
State Republican parties must be fascinating places these days.
I have added that one to the description of DeSantis having all the attractiveness of a meat hook.
I liked that so much I stuck it in my Facebook feed.
Guess he didn’t know the attorney-mayor was loaded!
