Our good neighbors the Canadians have made sure it’s archived. We watched it a little while ago. It’s. The. Most. Disgusting. And Depraved thing I have ever watched. Every single American should hang their heads in shame that our government would actually violate human rights and then try to cover it up. In a normal universe this would bring down the administration and send them to The Hague. It’s not hard to find and Congress needs to finally show some leadership to get rid of them. This makes Epstein files pale by comparison.
This is horrendous but I disagree that the Epstein files pale by comparison...nothing worse than the systemic and institutionalization of raping children...
Thank you. I just watched it. Trump and his cabal are inhuman. Unfortunately I don't believe Congress will do anything. Democrats have been silent on this issue, and I'm sure SCOTUS will continue to allow Trump to do whatever he wants. I feel hopeless.
Once upon a time, CBS, the station of the Morrow Boys, was the Tiffany's of the big three networks. Now? It's Dollar General and as tawdry.
There is a statement popular in the south, "If you lie down with dogs, you're gonna get up with fleas." Under Ellison and Weiss? The hounds are snoring and the station is flea bitten. What an abomination.
The piece from 60 Minutes has already run on Canadian TV and it’s all over the internet. One fine substacker who has a copy of it did not send out the video as he was afraid of a CBS lawsuit but he did send around the transcript. Karolyn Levitt the White House Spokesperson is in the piece.
And the CBS Evening News tonight had what Bari Weiss did in the A section of the broadcast - that’s the first fifteen minutes.
Bari Weiss majored in history. She knows nothing about journalism.
Or television newsrooms. One day soon the ghost of Don Hewitt will be channeled and he will lead the reporters and producers and editors into ms Weiss’ office and they will give her the TV reporters respectful answer…. “ and you can go f@*k yourself”
Take it from somebody with a journalism degree, classrooms aren''t where you learn much about journalism except tools. History would be a better major for a principled practitioner.
Married to a local and network televisionJournalist, 27 years at same building, except when they started the cable news channel, and after many years there back to 30 Rock. Multiple Emmy winner. He never took a journalism class in college. All on the job. But he didn’t start out as the boss. lol 😂
I should clarify that I have no regrets for my journalism degree. That was then. I learned about a lot of different things all adding up to how to put out a West Virginia family weekly newspaper. Nobody could have guessed what good prep it was for putting out international Manhattan weeklies. All irrelevant in the 21st century. The school now teaches "media."
The CECOT documentary is everything it should be, actual journalism. Everyone should watch it; it’s out there and if I can find it anyone can. Back on Earth, I’m truly embarrassed that Bari Weiss is from Pittsburgh.
I think that I'd find it too painful to watch, and I don't need to watch it. The people who need to watch it are the ordinary viewers of 60 Minutes who don't read this Substack and are not particularly well-informed, and who might learn something from it.
Right here is where I'd plunk one of the 1945 photographs of "ordinary" Germans who were made to walk through German concentration camps and view the dead and dying.
The hard part for me is understanding that CECOT practice has become American practice — we are them, and that’s done in my name and yours. That’s some sick shit. But it’s our sick shit.
What I don’t understand is WHY Bari Weiss and Larry Ellison (and others like them) are still so scared of Donald Trump? Or feel his insane whims have to be so slavishly catered to?
The man’s mind seems to have completely dissolved. His “speech” the other night was totally incoherent. His aides don’t even try to hide his family and his cabinet members’ brazenness at open bad faith.
The end of this man’s “reign of terror” is going to come an end, sooner rather than later.
And other vultures are gathering round to snap it up.
Trump opened pandora's box.
I know the last bedraggled thing to come out of that box was "Hope" - and that's all we have left now - hope that we'll make it to '28 - and hope that there will still be elections.
Because if there WAS one today - the Reps would be washed away.
Appreciate your positive view. But power not fading as evidenced by Kennedy Ctr and Naval fleet. Every week brings another catastrophe. Losing a local election in a small rural state means nothing. And his staff totally supports him.
Cal. Her Zionism has nothing to do with her incompetency in a television newsroom. Please don’t conflate the issues. Take up her Zionism in a post about that, please!
I have to think about that- I’ll be back tomorrow because I know you’re correct but I’m on the east coast and it’s growing late. My thinking is turned off. You’re like a Charles Bukowski I can converse with. Wow!
Totally disagree - it's completely relevant. People who think like zionists are the new nazis...it conflates with what is happening now: authoritarianism, lack of due process, starting wars and bombing people in the open seas, acting like you're better than everyone else so it's fine to rape and murder children and starve people and take away their health care, letting the billionaires shit all over regular people and the environment to hoard more and more resources and money. It comes from the same mentality.
And that's why I subscribe to non-corporate news all over. Don't have TV, and had it very little in my long life. In 10974-1980, I worked at the Caption Center at WGBH-TV in Boston on the "ABC Evening News for the Hearing-Impaired." A brand new grant for accessible media from... the Dept of Education. Transcribing, captioning and watching the event g news feed some 5- times a night showed my how little real information there is in TV News, even then. Things that really affect us are not visual. A tornado or small plane crash was "good" because there was something to show. Watergate struggled to have anytime visual, so did economic reports. I do think the bet TV news is radio.
Agree completely. When I did have a working tv I watched entertainment only, never tv news. Radio news since childhood. A special prize if you remember 'Wendy Warren and the News.'
That was possibly the weirdest news show of all time. "Wendy Warren" was the fictional newswoman centerpiece of a soap opera that CBS Radio broadcast at noon weekdays. It began with soap opera Wendy Warren reading the real top-of-the-hour news, then segueing into character as that day's episode unfolded. It fascinated me because the disconnect was obvious to me even as a little kid.
I don't know if I want to follow your hyperlink. This story is even less appealing than Tim Robbins crawling through the claustrophobic sewer line at Shawshank Prison.
Unrelated, but I know there are a lot of vets amongst Lucian's readers who might enjoy this map and lessons from Vietnam as Trump warmongers in Venezuela.
Where are the Venezuelan oil fields Republican oil barons want Trump to grab? Check this map.
Don’t know if anyone Ed else caught this but on John Dickerson’s sign off from his last night as class anchor he said “Good night and good luck. Wonder where he got that one. Not from Barry Weiss or Larry Ellison
CBS radio was our news source all the years my father was fighting in the South Pacific. (Time magazine was canceled.) I listened to NYC City Hall bureau chief Mary Gay Taylor on WCBS-AM every morning so i'd know what waa going on when I got to work there. Previously i mourned, now am glad CBS retired those call letters before the Ellison invasion.
John Dickerson was the only reason I watched. When we were working in Europe, we used to watch Scott Pelle on my laptop in the morning. CBS did have professional reporters. Bari Weiss did CBS IN so quickly.
Our good neighbors the Canadians have made sure it’s archived. We watched it a little while ago. It’s. The. Most. Disgusting. And Depraved thing I have ever watched. Could you share where you found the piece? I’ve looked but haven’t been able to find it.

Thank you for posting this…it is unbelievable
Tank you for posting this.
Look at Internet Archives. Kissing Fish may have it.
Thank you. I found it.
Thank you. I just watched it. Trump and his cabal are inhuman. Unfortunately I don't believe Congress will do anything. Democrats have been silent on this issue, and I'm sure SCOTUS will continue to allow Trump to do whatever he wants. I feel hopeless.
Had no idea that the ‘B’ in CBS was Bari - but the BS is most certainly BullShit
Does the C stand for "Conservative", or for "Crazy" ... ?
Con.
Good one!
Absolutely agree! I cancelled my Paramount subscription Monday.
It’s amateur hour for the authoritarians.
Now CBS (compromised broadcasting system) is going after the Canadian station that showed it.
This isn’t Nazi Germany, Bari, not yet. We grew up believing we were free.
Big mistake.
Once upon a time, CBS, the station of the Morrow Boys, was the Tiffany's of the big three networks. Now? It's Dollar General and as tawdry.

It looks as if the cowardly actions of Bari Weiss produced a journalistic version of the Streisand effect. Good.
Take it from somebody with a journalism degree, classrooms aren''t where you learn much about journalism except tools. History would be a better major for a principled practitioner.

That's the way to do it.
I agree 100%...history and law.
I should clarify that I have no regrets for my journalism degree. That was then. I learned about a lot of different things all adding up to how to put out a West Virginia family weekly newspaper. Its like the mafia. Comply or be destroyed physically or financially.
But he’s losing power and credibility. That’s not wishful thinking, we can see it every day.
"he’s losing power and credibility"
And other vultures are gathering round to snap it up.

Scared or complicit?
trump's goons take his words as marching orders. Any target is well advised to hire security for self and those close and pray if so inclined.
Lucian, please know, in your deep personal place, that we need you. Merry and Happy to you, and please continue your generous guidance. <3
Bari is obviously incompetent.
She is a Zionist.
I'm not sure she understands fully that Judaism is a prescription for life not mass murder of children and innocent civilians.
Cal. Her Zionism has nothing to do with her incompetency in a television newsroom. Please don’t conflate the issues. Take up her Zionism in a post about that, please!
She is there to turn CBS News into a propaganda outlet for Israel, which is why Ellison, another fanatical zionist, bought it to begin with.
I defer to your obvious wisdom.
Aw Cal! Thank you!
Your welcome.
I had to look up "conflate."
I failed dumbell english.
But in 54 I decided humans invented gods.
Ps, I'm watching Oppenheimer for a 4th time. Trying to understand man's suicidal intents.
I have to think about that- I’ll be back tomorrow because I know you’re correct but I’m on the east coast and it’s growing late. My thinking is turned off. You’re like a Charles Bukowski I can converse with. Wow!
I like Chuck Bukowoski but prefer Charles (My pal Chuck) Bowden. Americas most alarming writer.
Ps. Oppenheimer: "To end War: Oppenheimer and the Atomic Bomb "
You must read the illustrated novel aka comix book Watchmen. It’s all in there !

I don't, sorry! Got my news at the time from the three newspapers our office got and the five viewings of ABC National News!
Why did Bari Weiss Pull ‘60 Minutes’ Report on brutal El Salvador Prison? Follow the Federal money to CBS owner Larry Ellison!

I don't know if I want to follow your hyperlink. This story is even less appealing than Tim Robbins crawling through the claustrophobic sewer line at Shawshank Prison.
Is there any word about resignations from 60 Minutes?
They won’t resign. They will walk into her office and respectfully say “ and you can go f$@k yourself”
These are television journalists at the highest level. What a shame Ed Bradley is no longer around to participate.
Unrelated, but I know there are a lot of vets amongst Lucian's readers who might enjoy this map and lessons from Vietnam as Trump warmongers in Venezuela.

I, ofr one, will not be watching CBS, and I hope a lot of other people will do the same.
I stopped watching CBS many years ago.
MSNBC...now MS NOW...on in my house for years...best expert guests.
Yes for commentary, but no substitute for news.
Don’t know if anyone Ed else caught this but on John Dickerson’s sign off from his last night as class anchor he said “Good night and good luck. Wonder where he got that one. Not from Barry Weiss or Larry Ellison
He was one of the “good ones”. I hope he lands somewhere worthy of his talent.
He’s here on Substack.
My Dad was a career Army officer...grew up with CBS news in my house.
CBS radio was our news source all the years my father was fighting in the South Pacific. (Time magazine was canceled.) I listened to NYC City Hall bureau chief Mary Gay Taylor on WCBS-AM every morning so i'd know what waa going on when I got to work there. Bravo,Lucian. She sucks and should be fired.
