1. Former senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue started packing up their stuff to move out of their D.C. offices. Bye bye, Kelly! Bye bye David! Have fun cooling your heels in the newly blue state of Georgia.
2. The D.C. gun control laws apparently worked. It is illegal to own an assault rifle of the type commonly brandished by Proud Boys and other militia types. It is illegal to open carry in the nation’s capital, so the mob of redneck Trumpazoids were unable to carry and brandish weapons in the way that they did last summer at the Michigan state capitol building. It’s illegal to conceal carry a handgun without a valid D.C. license, and all weapons within the District of Columbia must be registered with the city. These laws, which the NRA has been whining about and trying to change for decades very probably saved multiple lives at the Capitol today as the crazed mob of looters swept through the building. Good on ya, citizens of D.C.! You stuck to your guns on gun control, and it worked!
3. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, Marsha Blackburn, and the other senator/members of the sedition caucus, as well as the 140 Republicans in the house who have sworn to contest the formal counting of the Electoral College votes and certification of Joe Biden as the new president – all of them got a real good look at what it’s like when Trump-generated chaos reigns and contempt for law and order blows back in their own faces. So did Pence get a look at Trumpian violence and contempt for good order. So did McConnell. So did the entire Republican Party for that matter. It ain’t pretty, is it, boys? It’s not pretty when it happens overseas in places like Ukraine and Hungary and Turkey, and it’s not pretty here, either. The whole world, as they say, was watching today. These fomenters of war against our democracy have been shown to be the kind of fascist fools and knaves that they are. They will have to live with the images of what they wrought for the rest of their miserable, weak, and small lives.
4. Twitter locked Trump’s account, preventing him from posting to his 88 million followers. Trump’s account will be suspended for at least 12 hours and the suspension may be extended if he refuses to take down three posts that advocated and promoted violence. Twitter announced that his account will be permanently suspended if he continues to violate its policies against advocating violence and spreading election misinformation
