From your lips to God's ear, Lucian. It's time (past time) for a change. I've got little to no faith in the current Democratic leadership, but I have faith in my fellow Democrats. Mamdani's win is a huge step forward. We can do this.

Carl Bimbo's avatar

Fuck all that the first thing they better do isn impeach Trump and at least 3!supremes! Fuck bi partisan anything, then arrest all the Heritage group and declare all domestic right wing militias terrorists! Then put a 90% tax on billionaires and end fox news ! And that’s the first week!

Carl Bimbo's avatar

Just do it! The Constitution doesn’t make it illegal !

bluerainbow18's avatar

Apparently nothing is illegal!

Linda Weide's avatar

I would agree, but say first day action.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

I guess "rule of law" doesn't mean anything to you? You sound like Steve Bannon's alter ego.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

The rule of law disappeared with Reagan’s Irangate treason investigation, ended by the notorious Bill Barr Susanna…it’s been in free fall since!!

Carl Bimbo's avatar

Well where is the rule of law when the Republicans are running things???

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

I can kinda hear a little joy in your writing, Lucian. Am I right? Just listening to Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC. He said that perhaps there are 5 Repubs who may vote against the bill. Gawwwd…please make it so! So frigging tired of their damn carrots always being dangled in front of our faces. Onward!

Rich Hope's avatar

When I hear Susan Collins say she is "concerned", I know that her concern ends with her being concerned.

Hugh Jenkins's avatar

Sad, but true. The theatrical expression of her "concern" was getting old years ago.

Randy Wieck's avatar

Collins is a snake. We’re surprised every time we git bit.

Barbara Jensen's avatar

Collins is only concerned with keeping her big donors and getting reelected. Collins should retire.

MaryPat's avatar

LOVE LAWRENCE!!! And you, too, Lucian! Thanks for Hope!

Lisa Botwinick's avatar

I’m listening too to Lawrence!

Earlene Busch's avatar

He really is outstanding!! Clear and directly to the point.

Lisa Botwinick's avatar

Lawrence's birthday is the same day as mine! I've met him in person and he was very nice!

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

I’m sensing similar things Marlene, we’re intelligent beings in need of hope!!

And we’ve got young David Hogg pulling out (ousted?) from the DNC on a mission to primary complacent sitting Democrats with young active changemakers - yes!

Gail (Chicago)'s avatar

I’ve always been impressed with David Hogg.

Ellen Franzen's avatar

I wait to vote for him or Maxwell.

arne link's avatar

Why doesn't the DNC support him and other young leaders. The time has come for a younger generation to step up. We should support them/.

daien | nyc's avatar

The DNC et al. are corporate-donation junkies. In NYC, Zohran Mamdani, 33, ran a thrilling campaign that won the primary with 43% of the vote over ex-Governor Andrew money-bags Cuomo, 67, (36%) and others last week. The ranked-choice setup means it won't be over officially for a few more days, but it's over.

Did Dem pols and party leaders fall all over each other to congratulate Mamdani? Congressman Jerry Nadler endorsed him promptly. Everyone else was a weasel or worse. Hakeem Jeffries and Dan Goldman were as bad as Governor Kathy Hochul, but the worst was Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, allowed by WNYC to spew Islamophobic lies about Mamdani on public airwaves. Jewish NYC is mostly fine with the Muslim Mamdani, AIPAC is not. Maybe KG is looking to add another scalp on her belt to Al Franken's? NY and the US need AOC in that seat.

NYC Dems finally have a second exciting candidate, and that terrifies party officials, local and fed, and their bankers. Not even that primary convinced them of the allure of authenticity.

UPDATE/Tuesday from Bolts editor ‪Taniel‬ ‪@taniel.bsky.social‬·

————FINAL RESULT of the New York City election:

Mamdani: 56.0%. 545,334 votes (+99,069 over first-round).

Cuomo: 44.0%, 428,530 votes (+53,493 over first-round).

Mamdani wins by 12 percentage points.

Ellen Franzen's avatar

Gillibrand is a weasel. After what she did to Al Franken, I've been waiting for her to get what she deserves.

daien | nyc's avatar

The WNYC episode hasn't helped Gillibrand's prospects. Rolling Stone and Truthout covered it, Truthout in painful detail. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/kirsten-gillibrand-zohran-mamdani-global-jihad-1235373902/

https://truthout.org/articles/democratic-senator-gillibrand-goes-on-islamophobic-rant-against-mamdani/

WNYC's Brian Lehrer should have turned off her mic in seconds but, having phoned it in for years, didn't even know that.

Susan Y's avatar

Good for Nadler. Had not heard that.

Mark Fresolone's avatar

[disclaimer re: not following closely, everybody having baggage…] Over the years Gerald has taken some heroic stands. Good for him!

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Not enough pundits have noted that Brad Lander, the 3rd-place finisher in the primary, cross-endorsed Mamdani. Lander is Jewish. AIPAC is definitely a big problem. P.S. Do you really think AOC has the chops to be a senator at this point? Like her mentor, Sanders, she's great at oratory and self-promotion and she clearly inspires people, but her effectiveness as a legislator is an open question.

daien | nyc's avatar

With everything else going on, nyc Comptroller Brad Lander (actually, my #1) is now a footnote EXCEPT in terms of ranked choice voting. Eric Adams is mayor arguably because no liberal candidates partnered in that primary as Lander and Mamdani did this time. I'm confident Brad will be high in a Mamdani hierarchy. … None of us will still be alive when everyone agrees AOC is ready for the Senate. Name a better qualified New Yorker? She has more record than most freshmen Senators and is a *very* quick study. What worries me is the people I see online trying to elevate her prematurely to a presidential run.

Mary S's avatar

They want to stick with same old strategy. As we witness daily, it’s not working

Hugh Jenkins's avatar

The message to the Dem establishment must be, "Lead, or follow, or get out of the way!"

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

I still haven't figured out whether it was "pulled out" or "ousted." My guess is that he realized working from within the DNC was a waste of time and we don't have time to waste.

daien | nyc's avatar

Assuming the subject is David Hogg, would you consider 'both?' Bad fit. His talent for stinging the establishment doesn't mean he functions in it effectively.

Janet Robbins's avatar

Good luck with the weather, and may all your predictions come true!!

Rob Patterson's avatar

I'll use the Obama slogan: Hope.

cal lash's avatar

Will 5 republicans find the sanity to give Donnie's big ugly wants the finger?

Then watch a crybaby throw a big fake tantrum.

Ellen Franzen's avatar

No, Cal, I'm pretty sure it will be a real tantrum...

cal lash's avatar

Your right. A real psychopath tantrum

Mark Fresolone's avatar

Talk about “political winds…”. Yesterday Musk says he’ll super-primary anybody who votes for the BBadB, and this morning, Trump suggested DOGE look for Musk business subsidies to help lower his companies’ costs.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

If Musk successfully knocks a few GOP incumbents off their perches, the country will finally have a reason to thank him.

Mary Roeser's avatar

He would only support worse than already exists. Musk is not this country's friend.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Not to worry, I definitely know that. Perhaps he *will* support Republican primary challengers, but I don't believe he has the background to do this effectively. If he does no more than undermine Trump's and/or the GOP's favorites, he'll have done Democrats a favor.

Mary Roeser's avatar

The psychopath's version of slap-and-tickle.

Mary Roeser's avatar

The GQP/MAGAT cult gutless eunuchs give Donnie Demento the finger?? Are you kidding? They haven't stood up to him once in 10 years. Why would anyone ever believe they will do so now?

cal lash's avatar

Ur right. Only 2 did.

SoTiredofWinning's avatar

And how about hearing after hearing after hearing grilling Hegseth, Patel, Bongino, Bondi, and the awful awful ICE Barbie on all of the felonies they’ve been committing and human rights abuses for which they arguably deserve to be hauled before the International Criminal Court

Gather the evidence so that when a serious Democratic president and an Attorney General who actually means business hold office, they can all be prosecuted, Nuremberg-trials style, and sent to prison for the long sentences they so richly deserve.

michellefromchicago's avatar

Straight to The Hague with all of them!!!!!

Karen Simmons's avatar

Love “Ice Barbie”. Perfect.

Yes, to all that. Recruit working class men.

Stay safe! Btw, I had to bee line it into my basement 3 times in the past couple of months because of tornado warnings. My wife and I live in the upper midwest region. I’m praying and hoping the democrats can win big in next years midterms election. Also, the 🍊clown posted couple of days ago on his crappy app regarding about Senator Tillis not running for re-election. Yeah, he ended the post saying: Thank you for your attention to this matter! Omg, what a jerk!

Richard's avatar

Btw, the democrats need new and young candidates.

Pamela Keogh's avatar

Oh dear god, please. You have been my (slight) Beacon of Hope 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Richard Alexander's avatar

You absolutely, positively hit the nail on the head with your last paragraph. The key, of course, is whether the Majority Leader, Speaker of the House, et al., (and, we hope, the president two years after that) have the courage to be relentless and merciless. The Donkey Party has been lacking in that regard over the past over the past 50 years.

Runfastandwin's avatar

It's sad but true. We need fighters, not comity weenies.

cal lash's avatar

Runfastandwin. Today i Saw another Roadrunner darting across the Great Sonoran Desert. That's 2 in two days.

arne link's avatar

They are everywhere where I live. They have the strangest call when they are looking for a mate. It's a kind of weird rattle.

cal lash's avatar

Runfastandwin.

Is your roadrunner statue in the Great Sonoran Desert. What's left of it?

Runfastandwin's avatar

I haven't seen one in a couple weeks, of course, as hot as it is I don't go out much...

cal lash's avatar

The desert gets peaceful in the summer. No Canadians, less snowbirds.

Result more wild denizens abound. The Quail just passed threw catching my evening meal for then. Finches still on the feed sock till dark.

MaryPat's avatar

Enjoyed 2 summers in Tucson! The third I was pregnant with only a swamp cooler for relief.

cal lash's avatar

I got to the desert in 1950. First house no cooling. Slept in ert sheets on army cots outside.

Mom prayed for a breeze.

Second house a Swamp Cooler. Have worked fields con Braceros y Mojados. Slept on dirt floors. Swamp in irrigation ditched and canals. First girlfriend at 14, last name, Moreno. At 85 current 90 year old girlfriend last name, Blanco.

I intend to die in the great Sonoran Desert what's left of it.

Fuck Donald Trump and his gold.

arne link's avatar

I love our Canadian friends, but traffic is nil when all the snowbirds are away.

arne link's avatar

Hot as Hell here. Literally.

Grover Zinn's avatar

Good luck with the storms. Great news about prospects. Time for those changes.......

plecop's avatar

I personally want to see Dem candidates run on a promise to hold as many hearings as necessary to obtain a full and complete accounting of spending by DHS, ICE, DOGE and Justice Department over the preceding years.

cal lash's avatar

And deport Elon to Mars.

Mark D. Garfinkel, Ph.D.'s avatar

Elon Musk should take a ride on one of his Starship prototypes and suffer an "unscheduled rapid disassembly." Ashes strewn over the Gulf would be a fitting end, don't you think?

Lorraine Dusky's avatar

Stay safe, my friend. I continue to hear good comments about the column that lead with Tony.

Gail (Chicago)'s avatar

Stay safe Lucian, Tracy & all your fur-babies.
