Bye-bye, farewell, and good riddance
MTG calls a press conference to announce she's going even further right, if such a thing is possible
I’m calling a press conference to ask for your subscriptions!
Did you hear that little whisper of wind this morning? That was sound of Marjorie Taylor Greene on her way out the door of our national discourse. MGT, as journalists have dubbed her, held a press conference yesterday outside the Capitol in full view of the steps where the blood of Capitol police officers was spilled defending her on January 6th as violent extremists clobbered and stomped their way through a cordon of police in their assault on the Capitol and our democracy. Do you think she talked about the rioters and white supremacists who are today being rounded up and charged with multiple felonies as she aggressively addressed a gaggle of curious reporters yesterday? Do you think she mentioned even once the name of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick whose remains had lain under the dome of the Capitol Rotunda only a day before in honor of his sacrifice?
No, she didn’t, but she made sure to heap praise on her hero Donald Trump, the man who incited the riot which took Officer Sicknick’s life. “The [Republican] party is his. It doesn’t belong to anyone else,” she told the assembled press. She went on to celebrate the fact that she had been stripped of her assignments to the Education and Labor and Budget Committees. “Going forward, I’ve been freed,” Greene practically sang out, adding, “I’m going to be holding the Republican Party accountable and pushing them to the right.”
I don’t know, maybe I was dreaming, but I could swear I heard the sound of Democrats cheering in the background. A Republican Party that’s not insane enough for Marjorie Taylor Greene will be a wonderous thing to behold.
Greene was asked if she apologized for her 2019 remark that House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi was “guilty of treason, a crime punishable by death” or her suggestion that the way to deal with Pelosi was to “put a bullet in her head.” No, she wasn’t sorry, she said, instead demanding that the CNN reporter who asked the question apologize for “all the lies you told about President Trump” in the network’s coverage of “collusion” with Russia during the Mueller investigation. She compared the press asking her about her comment calling for the execution of Pelosi to the press continually asking Trump to renounce white supremacy.
“Here's the thing, when you want to keep telling the same story over and over, but you don't want to tell the truth, that's your problem. And that's how we end press conferences,” she said as she stomped away from the array of microphones that had been set up for the press conference.
Yes, and that’s the way we end our coverage of Marjorie Taylor Greene, to whom far too much attention has been paid already. The print and visual media has been making the same mistake with her that they made in 2016 when they started sending cameras and reporters to Trump’s rallies and ended up providing him with coverage worth an estimated $2 billion, according to the New York Times.
This woman’s looned-out pronouncements about Jewish space lasers and QAnon-generated conspiracies about Democrats ripping the heads off babies and drinking their blood have been spread far enough.
This Newsletter will henceforth ignore her gibberish. We now return you to your favorite program, whatever it is. Thank you.
I find it so disturbing that we continue to give this woman a platform to speak. Press conference? I truly thought this crap would end after trump was no longer in office, but I guess I was just naive. Shame on the media for playing into her lunacy.
Recently, out of curiosity, I viewed “Triumph of the Will”. It included a somewhat infamous portion of Hess’ speech when he shouts, “The Party is Hitler! Hitler is the Party! Hitler is Germany!”
Just sayin’ 🤔😉😊
