Asshole and genius, comparable to the Everly Brothers as a harmonizer, David Crosby lived a life many, even among his rock ‘n roll contemporaries, could only imagine. “I have no idea how I’m alive and Jimi isn’t and Janis isn’t and all my other friends,” he told Rolling Stone in 2014, years after he had gotten sober. “I have no idea why me, but I got lucky.”
He left chaos and great music in his wake. We got lucky too.
No kidding. I still remember the night CS&N dropped off a rough mix of their just recorded song, "Guinevere," at the SF underground station, KMPX (later to be KSAN), late sixties. We were transfixed.
His work with The Byrds, sublime.
Just last year his new album dropped, For Free, with the song "I Won't Stay For Long," which I listened to for four days straight, in the face of an apparent still-born relationship.
On the flip side, I don't think Neil Young or Graham Nash had talked for decades. Others, as well.
That documentary on him a few years ago is def. worth a watch. Can't remember the name.
Sad that we now only have two Byrds left. That's still one of my favorite all-time bands. It's a kind man who has a kitty! Good pic!
