Democrats need to take power and get things done

Demanding accountability from Republicans is naive and a waste of time.

I really don’t know what prominent Democrats are thinking when they rattle the cages of Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Rand Paul, and the Congressional Coup Caucus with demands that they take responsibility for the role they played in the attack on the Capitol on 1/6.  If they think these scum-sucking Trump-loving bottom-feeders are going to just throw up their hands and admit their role in radicalizing the mob that attacked the Capitol, Democrats aren’t dreaming, they’re hallucinating.

Of course they fed the beast.  Of course they whipped up the rednecks by spreading the lie that the election was stolen from their idol Donald Trump.  Of course they watered the soil of paranoid delusions that sprouted on the far right into Qanon conspiracies and white supremacist mania.  Of course they sat back and nodded obediently as Trump told the tens of thousands of lies that turned his base from a political party into the howling mob we saw at the Capitol.

But demanding accountability from these knaves and moral monsters is worse than a fool’s errand.  It’s a waste of precious time that could be better used spending the political capital Democrats have amassed by electing Biden and taking charge of the house and senate.  What is winning for, if you don’t take power and use it?  The time is now to move on more stimulus relief, on COVID vaccinations, on immigration reform, and on reversing the damage done by Trump’s insane clown posse cabinet.

Besides, they’ve already started committing mutual suicide.  Rand Paul was on Fox News yesterday saying the quiet part out loud.  Criticizing Biden’s inaugural address, Paul noted, “If you read his speech and listen to it carefully, much of it is thinly-veiled innuendo calling us white supremacists, calling us racists, calling us every name in the book, calling us people who don’t tell the truth.”      

I didn’t hear Biden single anybody out when he denounced the “racism, nativism, fear, demonization,” that motivated the screaming white mob of Trump supporters who waved the Confederate battle flag and adorned themselves with swastikas, misogynist code words and other symbols of hate as they assaulted the Capitol carrying loaded firearms and swinging iron pipes at cops.

Who is this “us” you’re talking about, Rand?

Don’t waste time asking these Republican assholes for accountability.  Don’t demand anything from them.  Instead, put Trump on trial in the Senate and don’t drag it out.  Force a vote and find him guilty.  Arrest and charge the racist riffraff who looted the Capitol and killed a cop.  Identify any members of congress who aided and abetted the criminal insurgents, throw them out, and charge them with sedition and move on. 

Just get in there and use your power and get things done.  Vote out the filibuster.  Back Mitch and his pals into a corner.  With 400,000 dead from COVID, make them defend bankrupting people who face outrageous bills for just trying to save the lives of their loved ones.  Make them defend charging people to get vaccinated.  Make them defend collecting on student loans when students haven’t been to class in a year.

Asking for accountability from these assholes is like demanding a confession from a bloody killer standing over a dead body.  They did it.  Next?
