Deranged psychopath threatens violence

It’s getting to him, all of it:  the possible indictment for the Stormy Daniels payoff next week in New York City; the possible indictment for attempting to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia; the Mar a Lago classified documents case; the Jan.6 investigation along with the phony electors scheme; and now the SEC and Southern District investigations of Trump Media for money laundering.

Early this morning, sometime after 1 a.m. Eastern time, Trump stumbled over to his Truth Social account and threatened “death and destruction” if Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicts him for the Stormy Daniels payoff in 2016.  Listen to this:

“What kind of person can charge another person, in this case a former president of the United States, who got more votes than any sitting president in history, and leading candidate (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, with a crime, when it is known by all that NO crime has been committed, & also that potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our country?  Why & who would do such a thing? Only a degenerate psychopath that truley (sic) hates the USA!” 

Trump’s ravings early this morning followed a previous post yesterday that waved a red flag to his lunatic fringe militia-style supporters like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers:  “Our country is being destroyed as they tell us to be peaceful,” he said, baiting them openly. 

Trump used five deferments to avoid the draft, including the pathetic excuse of “bone spurs” he claimed to have on his heels.  Ferried everywhere by limousine in New York as a young man, surrounded by burly body guards at his casinos and other properties, protected by Secret Service agents as a candidate for president, upon taking office afterwards, this man has not been out of the sight of security agents of one kind or another for decades. 

Calling on his supporters to take to the streets and “protest” while referencing “death and destruction” in the same breath, Trump seems to think he is beyond the reach of the law.  He is also making direct threats against law enforcement officers tasked with controlling the mobs he foments.  He is inciting another insurrection just as he did on Jan. 6, when 145 police officers in Washington D.C. were assaulted and injured by the mob he sent to the Capitol.
