It is often said that Donald Trump lies every time he opens his mouth. He has told lies about everything. Take his apartment in Trump Tower: it’s over-decorated and there is gold leaf on surfaces that aren’t even visible, but its glorious gaudyacity wasn’t enough for him. For years, he claimed that his apartment was 33,000 square feet, had 35-foot ceilings, and took up the top three floors of the building. The place is actually about 10,000 square feet and there is another apartment besides his on each of the building’s top floors. The apartment’s ceilings are higher than normal, and many are coffered, but they are not as tall as a 3-story house. For years, he claimed that his penthouse was on the 66th to 68th floors. Trump Tower has 58 stories.
In financial filings necessary to qualify for loans and insurance policies, Trump said the apartment was worth $327 million in 2021. He claimed it was worth $80 million ten years previously. Trump claimed that Mar a Lago, his club/hotel/residence in Palm Beach, was worth as much as $612 million in sworn financial filings. In 2020, Trump’s company agreed that the Palm Beach City appraised value of the property, $27 million, was correct.
The lies he told after he lost the 2020 election are countless. The Georgia indictment of Trump and his 18 co-defendants took up 98 pages to list all his and their crimes, most of them involving lies, and that’s not all of them. He lied when he said he had turned over all the classified documents he held at Mar a Lago in 2022. Weeks later, the FBI found 133 more classified documents hidden in his office and residence, several of them with the highest classification national security documents can get.
He lied that he didn’t even know E. Jean Carroll and had never seen her before. A trial in Manhattan found that he knew her, had his photo taken with her, and he raped her at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan. He lied about every other act of sexual harassment and abuse that more than 25 other women have charged him with. Maybe the only thing he’s never lied about is that he has been married three times, but then, we don’t know what Putin is holding against him from his trips to Russia.
Now that he is running for president, Trump has apparently decided to tell us what he really believes. It happened last week in an interview Trump had with Raheem J. Kassan on his right-wing website, the National Pulse. Trump opened his mouth, and these words came out when he was asked about immigrants coming across the southern border: “It’s poisoning the blood of our country.”
“Poisoning the blood of our country,” is a construct that Adolph Hitler used to describe Jews, homosexuals, and other citizens of Germany he said should be “exterminated” like insects. Trump means that statement. He is telling the truth about what he believes.
At a rally Trump held in San Diego, California on October 1, Trump promised, “If you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store.” The crowd of his supporters cheered lustily. Trump reacted to the cheers by repeating the word, “shot,” a second time. He means it. He is telling the truth. If he is elected president again, he will do everything in his power to enable police forces around the country to shoot to kill a long list of criminals he has railed against constantly. He has even said he will use the U.S. military to send rockets across out southern border to kill drug cartels in Mexico, an act that, if carries out, would be a declaration of war. He means it. He’ll do it.
Trump meant it when he said that General Mark Milley, then the Chief of Staff of the Army, had committed treason and called for Milley to be executed. Trump has attacked Federal Judge Tanya Chutkan on his social media platform Truth Social, calling for her to recuse herself from his trial on charges related to January 6. After Trump was arraigned on August 3, he posted, “If you go after me, I’m coming after you,” The office of Special Counsel Jack Smith took Trump’s threat seriously. A day later, on August 4, in a federal court filing, prosecutors alerted Judge Tanya Chutkan, who had overseen Trump’s arraignment and will oversee his trial, about the threat. On August 5, a woman in Texas made a call to Judge Chutkan’s chambers and left a voicemail making this racist threat: “Hey you stupid slave n----- ... You are in our sights, we want to kill you. If Trump doesn't get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you. So tread lightly, bitch. You will be targeted personally, publicly, your family, all of it." She was arrested three days later and ordered held in jail for at least 30 days by a Texas judge at the request of the Department of Homeland Security.
On the first day of Trump’s trial in a Manhattan court room on Monday, Trump called the judge in the case “rogue” and told his followers in a televised interview outside the courtroom, “This is a disgrace, and you ought to go after this attorney general.” Attorney General Leticia James is being escorted by armed state police every time she leaves her house, and her house is being watched 24 hours a day by police.
Asked about the threats Trump has made against Milley and the New York State attorney general, Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, said, “President Trump is a truth teller and calls it like he sees it. He has laid out the most transparent policy proposal of any campaign and voters will know who they are voting for — someone who will Make America Great Again!” Asked about Trump’s statement that immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” the same Trump spokesman called the statement in the interview, “a normal phrase that is used in everyday life. For anyone to think that is racist or xenophobic is living in an alternate reality consumed with nonsensical outrage.”
Well, we had better start listening to what he has to say, because he is telling the truth when he issues threats to kill people, stirs up his followers to political violence, and tells us what he will do if he is elected in November of 2024. That is the reality we are living in.
This can not be said enough. Trump is at heart a coward. He'll never get his own hands dirty. A real "revolutionary" wouldn't have let his Secret Service Detail stop him from joining "his people" in overthrowing the government on Jan 6th. But Trump is infatuated with the idea of mayhem and violence committed on his behalf. The most sincere firm of flattery possible for a twisted, narcissistic, sociopath. Please keep sounding the alarm. We ignore it at our own peril.
