I still say they should all be held accountable for crimes against humanity at the ICC. Only problem is, the US isn't part of it. How convenient. Half a million people die and nobody pays for it except the victims.
Another great piece, Lucian. Artful balance of outrage and irony.
"She must have broken out in a sweat and gotten one of her scarves all damp and everything!" Love it! Reads as though Holden Caulfield was in the room as you were writing.
Another way to look at this, is to allow that CNN gave these politico/medico hybrids a chance to showcase their pusillanimity, by attempting to make excuses for the inexcusable. My ex-husband was an epidemiologist at CDC in the ’70s. He saw that much of the “work” was about political schmoozing, so he left, retrained and became a cardiologist. He wanted to help people. We divorced because his dedication to his patients kept him in the hospital more than at home with his sons and I. We remain friends to this day. He was not a political climber or a pusillanimous guy.
Lucian, I like everything you write a lot. That is why I am a subscriber to your newsletter. But I have to say that my present favorite is "And who in the flaming son of the devil is Dr. Robert Kadlec,.."
I woke up this morning to the sound of my wife’s laughter in the kitchen. I quickly walked into the kitchen and asked what was so funny this early in the morning. She then read me the first paragraph of this posting. Excellent piece, Lucien!

I really want an investigation into Jared’s sidegig dealing PPE to his pals.

Ever read Gina Kolata’s book, “Flu: The Story of the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918”? The competition between agencies was an eye-opener...
I haven't, but the subject matter sounds like it would be interesting and somewhat sadly familiar.
Totally agree. That CNN "special" was bullshit.
This fiasco screams for a Presidential Commission to investigate all discussed here.
Forgetting that Miss Lindsey was a reserve AF JAG Colonel?
Must be a crack shot!
😂😂😂

Damn! This felt good to read, I imagine even better to write.
BRAVO 👏
I thought Deborah Birx was an insult to women. And when will Miss South Carolina come out of the closet. No one really cares!
I love the delicious snark, personally 😁
