I’ve been waiting seven years to write this column, and the day is finally here. Donald J. Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury. Prosecutors filed the indictment with the county clerk sometime shortly after 5 p.m. today, Thursday, March 30, 2023.
Details of the indictment have not been released. Because the indictment was filed by prosecutors from the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the indictment is thought to involve a hush-money payment made to porn-star Stormy Daniels in the final days of the 2016 presidential campaign in an attempt to avoid a sex scandal.
In a statement issued from Mar a Lago, Trump denounced Alvin Bragg as “a disgrace” and said, “This is political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history,” defining being prosecuted for his crimes as an attempt to influence the election, a subject about which Trump probably knows more than anyone alive.
As I look out the window of my office, I can report that the sun is shining on the clapboard siding of the United Methodist Church of Milford, Pennsylvania, and Ann Street is peaceful and empty. Behind me on the television in the living room, live cameras focused on Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue do not show protests aimed, in Trump’s words, to “take our country back.” So far, anyway, hordes of MAGA hat-wearing Trump supporters have not visited “death and destruction” upon the land, as Trump promised would happen at his rally last weekend in Waco, Texas.
It is being reported that Manhattan prosecutors and lawyers for Donald Trump are negotiating his surrender, arrest, and booking at the Criminal Courts Building in New York City.
Watch this space.
NYPD may find less trouble with MAGA idiots than with people so happy they are dancing in the streets! Mary Trump said that the biggest problem with a Donald indictment wouldn't be MAGA protests , it would be that there was not enough beer for the celebrations!
The first of many, I’m waiting for the other shoes to drop. The only one that will prevent him running is the J6 suit and I don’t know how close they are to bringing that. The E Jean Carroll case is set for next month and GA could be voted on anytime. There’s still the DOJ cases the documents and J6 ... in any case , I’m going to savor this moment. I hope the House monkeys heads explode and reduce their loud mouth lies and attempts at interference. I feel like singing “it’s beginning to look a lot like justice...”
