I guess my Fourth of July-connected "family history" goes back to the Major in Revolutionary War, Eleazer Curtis, who "marched to the relief of Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point" in May 1775, and later voted in the Constitutional Convention as delegate from Warren, CT, in 1788, he voted `Aye"! And his son, also Eleazer Curtis 2nd, who wintered at Valley Forge under General Washington. Somehow that always reminds me of the Bob Newhart skit on The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back, set in the Revolutionary War, the premise being that the Army has always had one tradition among many others, "The Griper."
The family legacy—at least the part that's admirable—is clearly in good hands, all Truscotts considered. Happy 4th—always my favorite holiday, celebrates freedom, weather's right, corn is ripe, beer cold, WKCR Louis Armstrong birthday bash, fireworks, all with zero religious baggage and only a 10-day wait till the Bastille Day encore.
I wish you and your family a Happy 4th, Lucian, and may better times be our collective future.
Happy 4th to all of your readers as well.
Happy Fourth of July, Lucian!

Great post!
A year ago near my Florida home most of the party boats sported Trump flags, today, only a few!
Even DeSantistan is tired of Orange Foolius.
But…is DeSantistan an improvement?
What nifty pictures! And gorgeous children. I wondered, though, if a bat might have supplied the protein along with the vegetables.
Let’s hope for all of us that our democracy remains strong.
😄
You are one helluva Great American (and writer, thinker, analyst, etc,), Lucian.
I'd like to think that my paternal genetic line back to prerevolutionary arrivals here on both sides of my family help make me a good American.
Thinking of you - and our country - today. Jefferson would be proud.

Have a Happy Fourth! I hope it’s a good one—- and bat-free!
