This is the day we have marked to remember those members of our military who have fallen in war. No one in my family has been killed fighting a war, but the three men below, my brother, father, and grandfather, all fought in war and none of them were ever the same afterwards. They were not lessened by war, nor were they made greater, but they were changed. I don’t think any of them ever again drew a breath when they weren’t depressed to one degree or another.
No one should have to be sent away from their family to fight a war. We should remember that, above all.
My father lived in rural Appalachian Tennessee. No running water, no electricity. He enlisted in the Marines at 15 1/2 at the start of WWII.
He retired from the Corps as a Lt. Col. in 1974. He gave everything he had for the nation.
We honor your veteran family members Lucian and we honor you as well for your courageous reporting. Thanks and respect to the Truscotts.
