I wished his demise for so many years and that bastard had the nerve to live to be 100! I fear this for Trump too.

It's all so unnecessary, sad and stupid.

Timothy Cooper's avatar

I might add, infuriating. Trump can be so cavalier about everything because he's convinced he's dictator-for-life. He's gotten away with almost everything, including murder, and he's sure it will continue as long as he wants. Notice how Trump is using the term "traitor" increasingly, applying it to reporters, etc.? It's because he's hearing it used more and more in regard to him, justifiably so

So tomorrow he is meeting with HIS national security "team" in the Situation Room. I assume these are the same Meatheads who gave him thumbs up on attacking Iran. They are all dummies and brownnosers. Absolutely nothing good will come of anything they want to do. A Young Adult mystery is more suspenseful.

I don't know why I bother to follow any of these idiots anymore as everything they do is breathtakingly anti-American.

He also took time out of his heavy lifting for the MAGA faithful congress persons and wanna be congrrsspersons to let us know he has decided not to bomb Iran a second time because the peace talks were going so much better. Wanna bet that the Iranians still have at the top of their list retention of their nuclear material and reparations from the United States in the form of direct payment nd if not that becoming to toll taker in the Gulf for perpetuity. I would.

Trump hitting Iran again would be the stupidest move since he first decided to take on a nation which is not going to surrender to him on his terms. So, he is in a trick bag. Damned if he does not hit them and the impasse continues and even more damned if he digs his and the entire global economy's grave for the next several months.

Hunker down folks. This one is going to take a long time before he/we cave and things go back to pretty much normal with one exception. Iran will now be a world superpower in charge of the global gas station.

Someone posted a comment elsewhere that in a graduate school course on the Crusades, the professor, an eminent historian, insisted that in terms of Crusader influence on the Middle East, the Crusades were “a flea on the back of a camel.” All these centuries later, the current "excursion" leaders don't even rise to the rank of fleas.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

They are however the black plague virus, on those fleas on the rats.

Janet Robbins's avatar

Yikes! next time I check my camera-triggered bird feeder, and see rats chowing down on birdseed, I’ll ponder on that sequence 😬

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

There are rodents in the south-western desert that carry bubonic plague but they are way away from populated areas if I recall correctly.

“The bacteria that cause plague, Y. pestis, maintain their existence in a cycle involving rodents and their fleas. Plague occurs in rural and semi-rural areas of the western United States, primarily in semi-arid upland forests and grasslands where many types of rodent species can be involved. Many types of animals, such as rock squirrels, wood rats, ground squirrels, prairie dogs, chipmunks, mice, voles, and rabbits can be affected by plague. Wild carnivores can become infected by eating other infected animals.

Scientists think that plague bacteria circulate at low rates within populations of certain rodents without causing excessive rodent die-off. These infected animals and their fleas serve as long-term reservoirs for the bacteria. This is called the enzootic cycle.

Occasionally, other species become infected, causing an outbreak among animals, called an epizootic. Humans are usually more at risk during, or shortly after, a plague epizootic.

In parts of the developing world, plague can sometimes occur in urban areas with dense rat infestations. The last urban outbreak of rat-associated plague in the United States occurred in Los Angeles in 1924-1925.”

Trump is going to have to make a choice, probably by the midterm elections, to either let Republicans take a loss in one or both houses or make a truly authoritarian move and cancel the elections altogether in the name of national security. If he allows the elections to proceed, he will open himself to serious and possibly successful efforts to impeach him. The real prospect of his imprisonment comes with that outcome. If he chooses to deputize the Proud Boys, a cadre of our own armed forces who would follow him, and hard-core fanatical ICE warriors in Homeland Security, he might just pull it off at the cost of our democracy. Be prepared for anything.

Italien's avatar

Precisely. They should have been dealt with then. Did anyone see “War Room”? It was about us not dealing with J6 aggressively. But I’ve always said that - what we witnessed was sedition and treason. (I argued for years on Larry Tribe’s site on Twitter. To wit, look like sedition and treason to anyone yet??) And I wish we would have whacked those crazies into submission. But we just screwed around…jmo. California’s gubernatorial race is rather interesting. Riverside sheriff Chad nutjob Bianco (lock em all up!!) is an oath keeper who grabbed a bunch of paper ballots. No one called his ass out on that. Now that’s who I want for governor!! And these magats voted for him..

Trump is so overmatched here. While he’s out putting out bat shit crazy posts, the rest of the world is working to replace the US as a serious world player. Who can take us seriously when Trump doesn’t take what’s happening seriously. His unwillingness to negotiate just creates this ridiculous back and forth(TACO) that gets us nowhere and is exhausting. And Republicans in Congress continue to just go along with this became access to his golf courses is more important than solving real world problems.

Some years ago, I learned about T's corruption through Stephanie Koff and Greg Olear. Stephanie was tweeting about him on Twitter back before he was elected the first time.

She had it right then; too bad not enough were listening. Her "handle" was "Lincoln's Bible."

Here's a video from about ten months ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0caTVG1GH0

Here's an in-depth Greg Olear substack from way back when. He interviews Stephanie, starting with this first question:

"GO: It was in the 1990s when Donald John Trump began laundering money for the Russian mafiya. But his family’s mob ties go back long before that, correct?

LB: Yes. Since Grandpa Drumpf."

So Dumb Donald makes up an imaginary attack on Iran for tomorrow and then immediately TACOs out of it after claiming imaginary calls from Arab countries. DD should just claim an imaginary victory and get out of there before he causes even more damage. It's already going to take us years to recover from the damage he's already caused.

Christina Johnson's avatar

Only years? I’m thinking decades. I’ll never be around long enough to see it resolved. Ì just want to live long enough to see the Donald GONE…maybe off to prison. My sell buy date is approaching rapidly. Somebody needs to get us out of the Trump chokehold.

Ellen Franzen's avatar

Good luck with that. I believe we will never recover. We are a second rate power now, and it shows in our government, our military and our people. A country with a large population of magas and no functional educational system in the red states, plus the recent Supreme Court decision (Callais) is not first tier by any stretch of the imagination and won't be again unless some of us secede. But as long as we have red states hanging around our neck, we're toast.

Italien's avatar

Our president is not only humiliating himself but the entire country. And he will continue to control the Republican Party long after he leaves office through his chokehold on primaries.

Judith Testa's avatar

I doubt he will be alive for long after he "leaves office," if he ever voluntarily does.....leave office. He won't survive without the constant adulation and attention he gets because he's POTUS. Nobody will give a shit about him once he's out of power.

Christina Johnson's avatar

Your lips…God’s ears.

Mobiguy's avatar

I hope that's true but I'm not convinced. Who will take his place as kingmaker? For the MAGA faithful, no one has yet stood up to claim the mantle, not surprising because anyone who presumes to try at this point in the arc will be seen as a usurper and be cut off at the knees. So while Trump is alive, even if he is no longer President, he will be the power broker for MAGA and supplicants will come begging his favor.

After Trump is gone from this Earth no one will rise to replace him. Actually, many people will rise to try to replace him but he will not be around to pick the winner. Our best hope may be that we can be almost sure a living Trump will never anoint a successor because he will refuse to give away any of his power while he's still alive to use it.

Unless to one of his useless progeny

Charles G.'s avatar

Completely agree Mobiguy. He is consumed by self-importance and being the center of attention. That will not change after he's president. He will opine and meddle and the Republican Party will do his bidding. He will second guess and undercut other Republicans at his whim, even if one happens to then be the sitting president. He will be the powerbroker in the party. Will someone take his place when he finally passes from the scene--unlikely but certainly possible. Many will look to assume the mantle, although no one will inherit it directly from him.

Eliza Bethany's avatar

Let him give puppet shows to his new inmate buddies. He can watch the other prisoners' adulation or derision to fill his need for attention, good or bad.

Judith Testa's avatar

Once he no longer has the executive POWER, he won't be much of a power-broker. I think he will no longer be of much significance. This, of course, assumes that he _survives_ until the end of his current term and agrees to vacate th White House.

Barbara (NJ)'s avatar

I don't give a shit about him NOW

Mobiguy's avatar

It is truly sad to watch Trump, representing all of us on the international stage, get played over and over by one adversary after another. Bibi, the Iranians, Xi, Vlad, the Arab states. The list just keeps getting longer. Give him a shiny gold plated thing with his name on it, treat him to a parade of sixteen year old girls, drop a token billion in a slush fund run by his sons, or smile and shake his hand while you speak some insult in a foreign language you know he won't bother to try to understand, and he'll give you all the advanced AI chips you want. Or an airplane you can take apart and copy so they can undercut the American company that designed it, or just find its weak points. Or a Northeastern state, since they never voted for him anyway. And then we have to watch him boast about the great deal he "negotiated".

At what point do we as a country get tired of watching him get scammed over and over again in our name?
