A lot insane stuff happened on 1/6, alongside the violence and looting and the temporary halt of the certification of Electoral College ballots. There was now-famous “Elizabeth from Knoxville,” who expressed her surprise when she got maced and “pushed out” as she and her boyfriend attempted to break into the Capitol. “We’re storming the Capitol, it’s a revolution!” she cried, as if a Constitutional right held by white people like her had been violated.
A reporter for The Nation overheard another woman complaining, “This is not America! They’re shooting at us. They’re supposed to shoot B.L.M., but they’re shooting the patriots.”
Another of Trump’s insurgent losers told a television reporter how his girlfriend was killed in the melee inside the Capitol. “I put my arm underneath her and was pulling her out and then another guy fell on top of her, and another guy was just walking on her,” he said. “There were people stacked two to three deep, people just crushed.”
He reacted with indignation when the reporter asked him if he thought President Trump has blood on his hands. “Does he have blood on his hands? No! She was killed by an incited event and it was not incited by Trump supporters!” He blamed “antifa” and “outside instigators” for his girlfriend’s death. They had traveled together from the state of Georgia to join the assault on the Capitol.
These people weren’t following Jim Jones, they were following Donald Trump, and the Kool-Aid they drank didn’t come in little paper cups. It was delivered on the screens of the phones they used to film themselves as they blissfully committed felony after felony, never thinking that the laws against riot and sedition and insurrection applied to them. It wasn’t their Capitol building they invaded and looted. It was the enemy’s.
I keep wondering what kind of government they thought they'd get out of this. It's sad on top of everything else it is.
It's more than white privilege. It's complicity from the law enforcement and military. Those folks have been drinking the kool aid too. When I took my 10-year old son to the protests against the 2003 war, he picked up a stick from a garbage can where someone else had discarded it. In seconds a police officer confronted him. "I could have you arrested. You can't have any sticks." Everyone in that protest had to tear the sign off their sticks and throw them in the trash. We were kept in pens in certain areas--only allowed in organized places. There was NOTHING like that last week. NO preparation, or even worse, encouragement from the law enforcement sympathizers. When I saw the flags on POLES, I knew something was fishy. And weapons! Unbelievable. And HOW IN THE WOOGEDY did they build a gallows and noose. Was anyone watching? Where were they?
