Actually, the last Democrat to ever have balls like Nancy Pelosi, is surprisingly, a Democrat everyone wants to forget as a mistake: Lyndon Johnson.
If you've ever read Robert Caro's biographical series on him, this man was literally a ball-buster of the first water, and he was famous for it.
I think he regretted actually having become POTUS because it limited him in his power to move the Senate or House anywhere and that's why he didn't run for a second term (besides that mistaken belief that Vietnam was a 'winnable' war).
Nancy and he were the masters of running the House and Senate respectively, and nobody should ever underestimate her ability to get things done.
She's under no illusions about the GOP and she's not going to allow them to steam roller her into the corner.
I hope she nails their asses to the house wall for all to see.

I am watching right now. Thus far, videos, no grandstanding (that I could recognize), lots of impassioned, first hand testimony by the officers. If this continues for weeks on end, Pelosi has won this fight before it even begins.
I used to be able to converse with Republicans. I can’t even breathe the same air now. I’m old enough to recall the days that Republicans were fiscally conservative while pretending to seem humane. The facts speak for themselves without the need of a Trey Gowdy or Jim Jordan to muddy things, or Liz Cheney to pretend she’s protecting the Constitution which she, and her party disdain. Roll the videotape. Evidently there are 1000s of hours.

Good column, and I agree 100% about not lionizing Cheney or Kinzinger, but I've got to push back on this line: "If Democrats don’t do the same thing with their Jan. 6 select committee . . ." I don't want the Dems to do what the Republicans did in the Benghazi hearings: leaking, exaggerating, lying, and all the rest of it. They don't have to. All the Dems have to do with these 1/6 hearings is stay focused, keep the videos coming, and come up with some dynamite campaign ads. As to the political mud, well, that's where the Republicans have been squatting for quite some time now. Come to think of it, though, it smells more like a sewage backup.
The hearings painfully illustrate the disgusting and rampant racism in the Trump Bandwagon. The Republicans are losing support as they morph into the Cult Of Trump. And again - there were people fully capable and willing to kill some of our nation's leaders ranging from Mike Pence to Pelosi on 6 January. They are getting less than 18 months in Federal prison. Phew.
While I was filming a ski movie in Aspen in 1972, I once boarded the chair at Aspen Highlands. I turned and sitting right next to me was Robert McNamara, then Secretary of Defense and architect of the Vietnam War. I was 26. He was a veteran of WWII and part of Lemay's staff. I looked at him and I said, "I'm from a little town, Tahoe City." (By this time our little town had lost two boys, Mike DeLacy and Roddy Hill. My close friend Mike Kehoe had been shot in the head by a sniper and half his face was blown off). "So, how come you guys can't figure out the obvious: It's a civil war over there. It ain't dominoes at all." He responded: "Look, this is Christmas and I'm on vacation." Later on in "Fog of War" he admitted, "What we didn't realize at the time was that it was a civil war we were engaged in." My point is this: nobody knows anything. Susan Rice looked in the cameras that Sunday morning and lied, "It was a video that triggered the Benghazi attack," she told the country. No, she lied for Obama. Everyone has a perspective to fit a narrative, true or not. I saw a State Senator from Georgia look into the cameras and say the Trump riots and shameful attempt to take over the Capitol were just an average "Tourist Day" within the valet ropes. Now, talk about a BIG lie. Until these opposing forces running this country find compromise, the victims of all this bullshit ultimately are American citizens. Between Trump, McConnell, Pelosi and Schumar, we ate a machine...an engine with loose pistons. Instead of properly greasing it, the dipstick on one side is Lindsey Graham and on the other side, the "oil intake" is Diane Feinstein now worth hundreds of millions of dollars. My point is simple, they all lie, just some do it better than others. There are no winners with the4se people; just losers. However, we're all the victims.
