Awe sweet Graycie. Just a heads up Tracy, I fell asleep with my very pregnant cat sleeping on my chest some years ago. I woke up in the middle of the night and she was actively delivering her kittens snuggled into me on the bed. It was quite an experience. All went well.
At least your cat gave birth to a sympathetic human.
I can recall at least two kittens who were born in mid-air because my mother caught the cat in the act of giving birth INSIDE THE HOUSE (verboten) and threw the mother and her half-born kitten out the door.
Another time, the heinous deed nearly took place in Mother's shoe closet and She Was Not Amused. (second kitten born in mid-air).
The morning after.
mjb arrives, full of sunshine and cheer... Mother at table -- not...
Mom: I AM NOT HAPPY.
mjb: I'll clean up right now, Mother. (departs. Returns a few minutes later.)
mjb: Mother, the carpet inside the closet is bone-dry and none of your shoes are ruined.
Mom: I DON'T BELIEVE THAT.
mjb: Go see for yourself. You know, it's probably because the mother cat eats the afterbirth...
Mom: I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT.
mjb: Gee mom, what if YOU'D have to have done that when you had US...
Mom: Never mind, it was bad enough as it was...
mjb: It's not MY fault I was an eight-pound baby! What is your problem with the miracle of life beginning???
Mom: Turn the kettle on, I want another cup of coffee...
Hi Cal, i received a notice that you subscribed to me several weeks ago. I couldn’t figure it out since I don’t write on substack except for my comments. I don’t write on notes either. But since then I have 4 more people that have “subscribed” to me. Then today I noticed a subscriber’s page so I clicked on it and it had a button to subscribe to you, so I thought what the heck maybe I can find out what this is about. I thought it was very strange that people were subscribing to me when I don’t post any writing. 🤷♀️
Our one-eyed black cat, Kuro, came to us one week before she delivered five kittens, but her pregnancy was very obvious as she was such a scrawny, ugly feral cat otherwise. Now, seven years later, she’s a fat, contented, spayed black fuzzball and her kitties have all found good homes. Good luck to your Graycie!
Looks like Gracie will produce quite a litter. Hope it goes well. She might want a secluded protected spot to have them. We had five litters over three years from our two female Maine Coons - a total of 15 kittens. One was still born. Despite being supplied with a roomy inverted box with an entrance hole, and a soft towel, our Brunhilda (we didn’t know she was one when we named her) chose her spot to birth the three litters she had, and not always the cave. She had her last litter of five behind the toilet, and kept moving them to hide them from us. She found the most inconvenient places. Life around the Harris-Truscott manse is likely to get more active when those little critters get ambulatory in a few weeks. They are a lot of fun, and they grow very quickly.
Thank you for such delightful updates on your feline and canine family members. My commiserations to Graycie. I hope the kittens decide to make an appearance soon, and I hope she has an easy delivery. Tazzie contemplating the lemons is a very deep thinker, to ponder such existential questions. And Ruby looks both relieved and resigned as she had takes a break from all that herding of cats and probably you humans, too.
Did the vet know if this is Graycie's first litter? … Like so many Manhattan storefront corner newsstands, the one closest to me is now just a candy store with a wall of coldcased soda and juices. Same with the international magazine store down Varick Street. So sad. The corner guy tried selling the wapo and papers in the dozens of languages spoken in this blessed city. That didn't work either. I buy mints there now. When I do I always renew acquintances with the classic bodega cat. Something I never noticed, never would have iknown to notice before the discussion here of Tazzy on the kitchen counter, is that the contented b&w bodega cat is a cardboard box cat too!

That happened to me too, when I was a kid. Karen, you and I have a lot in common!
Sounds like we do Susan. I was in high school. Many years ago😹. But it feels like it happened yesterday. Very positive and impactful experience

Poor dear Graycie! Thank heavens she found such a good home!
Cats, dogs, sensitive and determined humans fighting the good fight, thanks!
You and Tracy are the best. You love your precious animals. Thank you for your kindness and caring!
Please share plans for the Graycie's gender-reveal party--probably gotta cover a lotta bases there.
Please, no pink or blue incendiary devices!
Wishing Graycie an easy delivery.
Good luck with those kitties when they arrive, Pops.

Graycie looks trusting and secure. I'm so glad you and Tracy took her in. Some loving kindness in a scary world.
