In what looked suspiciously like a firing, Tucker Carlson has departed not only his 8 p.m. slot in the Fox News prime time lineup, but the network itself.
“Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” the network said in a terse statement. “We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.”
We’ll have to wait for the inside gossip to learn what was behind Carlson’s abrupt departure from the network he has called home since he became a political analyst on Fox in 2009. He has hosted “Tucker Carlson Tonight” since he replaced the disgraced sexter Bill O’Reilly in 2016.
Carlson’s last show was Friday night. Must have been a busy weekend for the baby-faced Swanson Frozen Foods heir as he doubtlessly huddled with lawyers negotiating his exit package, if in fact there is one. Well, now Tucker will have even more time to spend with his lawyers as he readies his defense in the lawsuit filed by former Fox producer Abby Grossberg, who alleges that Carlson presided over a misogynistic and discriminatory work environment in his office at Fox News. Carlson’s office was reportedly decorated with large photoshopped images of Nancy Pelosi in a low-cut swimsuit, and Grossberg says he and his male staff frequently used a vulgar term in referring to women.
Whether Carlson’s firing had anything to do with his repeated lies on his show about Dominion Voting Systems is not known. Last week, Fox paid $787.5 million to Dominion to settle a defamation suit. Many of Dominion’s complaints about the lies on Fox News about its voting machines were uttered on Carlson’s show in 2020 after Donald Trump lost the presidential election, and Fox News picked up his Big Lie and began spreading it nearly around the clock.
More anon, so stay tuned.
And CNN fired misogynist Don Lemon today, and NBC fired CEO Jeff Shell for an "inappropriate workplace relationship". Maybe things are finally starting to improve for women in broadcasting, though I won't hold my breath.
Baby face Swanson frozen food heir: love it. You always nail the descriptor, Lucian. Can’t wait to read more of you on this delightful topic.
