Great column and excellent analysis of yesterday’s activities. I’ve decided that the only way Trump will be stopped (aside from death) is strong opposition by Republican lawmakers. If they see their support from voters lost, they may turn on Trump and go behind the scenes and make “changes”.

So what’s next? Another huge day of rallies on July Fourth? Led by Democratic officials? I hope something to keep the momentum going.

palm springs last night had 5,000 people gathered. peacefully. the police department's stated objective was to protect our gathering. there was one incident of people with trucks and loud sound systems that tried to disrupt it but they were dealt with swiftly and efficiently. the best speaker was our Chief of Police, Andy Mills. if people in palm springs are confronted by masked and helmeted people claiming to be federal officers we can call our police department and real police will be sent swiftly to do things like check IDs, warrants, and even the chain of command if no ID or valid warrants are produced. cosplayers will encounter real police here. if your police department does not reflect the values of your community you do not have law enforcement at all. you have an occupying force that should be treat that way. 5,000 people in palm springs represents over 10% of our population. 3.5% is the benchmark that non-violent movements say is when real rains are achieved through peaceful protest. keep marching. keep the pressure on. in palm springs we had signs saying "ICE melts in our desert."
