I spent a couple of hours this afternoon trying to parse this hideous fiction that there is a conspiracy among Democrats and others to “replace” white people with “more obedient” immigrants and black and brown people.  Then it came to me: it is yet another case of right-wing projection. Right-wing extremists are the ones who are doing the replacing, and they’re doing it with guns. 

It has happened all over the country in mass shooting after mass shooting.  Right-wing white supremacist extremists are killing their way to a whiter America.  In October of 2018, a white supremacist antisemite named Robert Gary Bowers walked into the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and killed 11 people and wounded six.  All were Jews, including several Holocaust survivors.  Before he launched his attack, armed with a Colt AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and three .357 magnum Glock semiautomatic pistols, he posted this on the tech social media site Gab: “HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I'm going in.”  During the attack, which lasted nearly 20 minutes, the shooter shouted out, “All Jews must die.”  He had also reposted, approvingly, comments from other Gab users such as Patrick Little, another white supremacist antisemite neo-Nazi who was a member of the Rise Above Movement (RAM).  Members of RAM had attended the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017, during which a mob of white supremacists marched through the campus of the University of Virginia carrying lit torches shouting “Jews will not replace us,” and “you will not replace us.”  One of Bowers posts on Gab said, “Daily Reminder: Diversity means chasing down the last white person.”  One woman was killed and multiple people were injured by one of the white supremacists at the Charlottesville rally who drove his car into a crowd of counter-protestors.
