I keep reading this story that's going around about a former KGB officer from Kazakhstan who wrote on Facebook that Trump was recruited as a Russian asset during a visit to Moscow in1987.
He’s not just evil. He’s a traitor. He’s committing treason. Our founders anticipated many evil and corrupt things in putting in checks and balances, but I’m not sure there’s a clear path to justice when the president sells out the country and destroys democracy, the Constitution and the country’s stature in the world, politically and economically, and his party rules both houses of Congress, and he made many judicial appointments in his previous term and his party used their power in Congress when he was out of office to limit the appointments by the other party’s presidents. Who is left, and what is the mechanism for stopping his treason? How much can judges’ contempt of court rulings, even if upheld by the Supreme Court, do anything about a person whose only rule of law is “Try and stop me”?
Of course Tulsi is far worse than useless, but it saddens me that literally no one in the professional ranks at any of the intelligence agencies has been willing to speak up, even anonymously, about the damage Trump et al are doing to this country. They must be horrified but keeping silent, why? Is it ALL rotten?
Maybe some ARE speaking up but the media refuses to share that with the rest of us. I’m learning how valuable, how important the Times and the Post used to be for our country. Now they’re important and valuable for Putin.
Please do your patriotic duty snd pass along the specific statements to us that you are aware of the media refusing to share! Why are you joining them in leaving us in the dark about what you know?
This is the reason I subscribe to a number of Substack authors: to get news and views I don’t get from mainstream media. I do subscribe to my hometown newspaper also, as well as Wapo.
So glad you subscribe to your local newspaper, shee-rah.. No journalism is more important or more endangered. I regret seeing wapo slide slowly into merdochland the longer Will Lewis runs the newsroom. For all its flaws, I believe the nyt is still indispensible. That's the source of the facts many of those substack opinion writers rely on. Lucky me, it's also my local paper.
I'm quite sure the committed and dedicated professionals in our intelligence services, both civilian and military, are doing their very best to continue their work under adverse circumstances, i.e., Drumpf, the alcoholic SecDef, Gabbard, and others. For them to speak up, even anonymously, would risk their careers and possibly violate security. Even mentioning the harm being done to our national security by the incompetents in charge would aid Putin, Xi, and other hostile countries. They know they need to remain quiet because they ARE dedicated professionals.
I worked on a picture that had its completion bond called, there was hell to pay. I spent 30 years working in the motion picture industry in production, and I was paying attention. One thing I learned is that when there is a lot of money in play, there are no dummies and there is a lot of focus. Cubby Broccoli and his family have done just fine swimming with the sharks, it makes perfect sense that they used Mossad to protect their business. I, like you and probably all of us here, am beyond horrified at what they have done with USAid. Of course it has been used for decades as you described, and it’s been a very successful asset. That’s why the bastards hate it so much. When you help people who are in need, life saving need, you make friends for a very long time. All these clowns know how to do is make enemies, unless of course you count our real enemies, who they are doing everything they can to help. We have never had elected officials so hell bent on the destruction of everything that has made us a great nation, when this finally sinks into the minds of the maggot “base”, there is going to be hell to pay.
I bet it will never sink into the minds of the diehard MAGA voters. A. They want a “strongman”. B. They won’t change their Faux “News” viewing and suddenly switch to NPR and PBS. So they will eat up all the vile “It’s all Obama and Biden’s fault!” lies they will be spoon-fed.
The CIA has to start somewhere, right? Why not USAID? Lucian, you just lit the light that I had never considered before. That USAID, being the great organization it was on so many fronts, was an actual “hideout” for the CIA. That simply blew me away! Guess I am naive about all of these things. Not that I am pollyanna-ish, but I just never considered it before. It makes perfect sense now why Donnie and Co. are destroying the agency. I remember after Jared probably sold our secrets to the prince of Saudi Arabia, that agents were missing or turning up dead. Benedict Arnold has been resurrected, damnit!
Very likely there are CIA operatives in many "non governmental organizations. My daughter dated a young man in college who has now spent twenty five years working in various African and Middle Eastern nations over the years. Mutual friends who still stay in touch know he was speaking to the CIA as a possible recruit just before he got a Masters in International Relations from a prestigous East coast college. Seems he gets "relocated about every three to five years. I am glad there are Americans who are willing to go into harms way to protect our interests. God Bless them for the sacrifices they make.
Does 47% of the country now delight in the damage Demented Donnie continues to inflict on the country? What are they seeing that we're not? While Maga continues in it's daily rampage against every good thing we've built up over years and years, Spinless Chuck and the rest of the useless Dems cower in the corner afraid of provoking him. Wake up Chuck, they don't need provocation, just imagine any good thing in the world and they're actively taking action to destroy it. Yet the cult continues to give him his highest approval ratings ever. We're in Bedlam.
Donald Trump claims angry constituents screaming at Republicans in town halls are paid actors. What does that say about his own crowds? I don’t believe he has the support he constantly advertises.
I notice Drumpf hasn't held any MAGA rallies of late. Ya think the reception Repugnant congressmen are getting at their town halls has anything to do with that?
Trump no longer needs to do rallies. The base already got him into the position he wanted, it doesn’t play much of a role keeping him there. Now the focus is manipulating the institutions of government and enforcement to protect him.
You're absolutely right, Colin. Once he got their votes he doesn't need them any more. He certainly doesn't have to pander to them and he now doesn't give a rat's ass about them. Wait until the Maggots (and there are many) on Medicaid find out they're out of health care. Too late to change their votes then.
IMHO half of the 47% are ignorant of how our world and economy actually work and the other half simple have some insatiable need to sit back and conclude "so long as it doesn't effect me, I am OK with whater is done. They will still feel that way when their cheese is moved because they have become habituated to indifference.
It will affect them when they lose Medicaid or their Social Security check doesn’t arrive on time or they go to a VA hospital and there’s no doctor or nurse available to care for them or their town is wiped out by a hurricane and FEMA doesn’t show up, etc, etc.
Lucian, you nailed it—Trump may not grasp the full damage, but he knows how to cash in on it. Gutting intelligence networks? A gift to Putin, sure, but also an opportunity. Whether it’s oligarch payoffs, shadow deals, or post-presidency riches, one thing is certain: he’s not walking away empty-handed. With Trump, the answer to ‘who benefits?’ is always the same—Trump first, America last.
High Crimes and misdemeanors. Impeachable acts. We have seen this movie before. Last time, we knew who the cowards were. This time? It seems to be an entire party of the United States government. We are on our way to being a third world dictatorship with a criminal sitting on gold plated toilet, being manipulated by a basic monster to whom he owes millions. Time to start building the case for impeachment.
You're right, of course, Carol-Ann. Impeachment is the clear answer. Sadly, there's no chance of that happening with the current composition of the House & Senate, two bodies full of cowards who are more than willing to lick Drumpf's boots, kiss his ass, and . . . well, you can imagine the rest.
We need to stop focusing on the "faces" ie trump and muskrat, and zero in on the worker bees who are doing all the scut work. I am talking about Stephen Miller, aka the Nazi Prince. He is not protected the way the Convict-in-Chief is. That's why the profile is so low. As for the vance, he is protected, but he came into office knee deep in the excrement of high crimes and misdemeanors. MAGAs are counting on our not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time......we must prove them wrong, starting now.
I wish there was a way to "zero in" on the people who plant the bizarre stuff that spews from Drumpf's mouth. Since the Felon-in-Chief doesn't have the intellectual capacity to come up with these nutty/illegal/amoral ideas on his own, he's dependent on people like the Nazi Prince and others to do his thinking for him. He has surrounded himself with the worst of the worst, and it shows every single day.
They all have come to the conclusion incumbency is a wondrful concept. I get to keep this job where people lick my boots, build my portolio and have one hell of a retirement plan. In the meantime I get a great travel plan paid for by my constituents and all those "fact finding trips" to warm places flying and staying first class.
Astounding. And very worrisome. The Cubby Broccoli story fascinating too. I remember my old boss (A retired executive VP of Metromedia, John Kluge's old company, mentioning Cubby Broccoli
ili, I gue he knew him pretty well. Kluge was an interesting person too You can look him up on Wikipedia. Would you believe it he was the richest man in America one year with only 20 billion dollars. I had lunch on his 219 foot yacht once with the crew while he and my boss had lunch together. The night before Frank Sinatra was his guest. Then once when I had lunch at the Belair hoter with his bodyguard while they had lunch at the next table, J got a scolding from Red Buttons for parking on the corner of his street as he drove by in a little sports car. I told him the parking guys had told me to park there as the lot was full, so he just grinned. When I told Kluge as I was driving him back to his private jet he laughed too.. He said Yeah, I know Red. I'll have to kid him about that. (As a private driver after 23 years with the phone company before I became an extra/actor at 78 I certainly saw how the other half lived. They lived very well. But Kluge told me on another occasion many of his friends, in spite og their wealth were not happy people. I'd hazzard a guess that Trump is a very unhappy man. Maybe that is why he likes to make other people unhappy.
True but he strikes me as a very unhappy person. How can a person be happy if they are angry all the r tine, mean spirited and vengeful, hate people who are different than themselves? It is impossible to be angry and hateful and feel good at the same time. Oh, but he's a, Christian and Jesus will save him and take him straight to heaven when he dies. Yeah, sure. If there is an afterlife, and a heavenly state I imagine you would have to reach a heavenly state within oneself in order to reside there. Mere belief alone ain't gonna cut it. I'm not exactly a bible scholar but I think it says heaven and hell are not places but states of mind. If there is indeed an afterlife we will take who we are with us, A devil doesn't suddenly become an angel. Of course if there is no such thing as an afterlife none of us will ever know that. If consciousness dies with the bodyn we won't even know we are dead or even that we ever lived. Rather a sobering thought now that I think about it. Like, what was the point of all we go through in a given life? Someone told me once we are here to learn and to grow and to expand in consciousness, that we are on an eternal journey, that while our bodies might be destroy our human consciousness goes on forever. So why prolong the agony? Make the best of life and be as good a person as you can be. That makes for a happier life anyway, even if there is nothing else. End of sermon :)
Ha ha , thank you shee-rah, no I didn't, but have always been fascinated with the mystery of the universe, the first tiny one celled creatures that evolved over millions of years to become us. Was there some kind of universal intelligence behind it all, or pure happenstance? ,Science still can't explain consciousness. if there's some kind of master creator, how did he/she/it get created? .And what was before the Big Bang :)
We've gotta be the dumbest assed nation in the history of the world; to take all of this potential and piss it away on this Coney Island Carney Clown and his Nazi fan/mob. Americans don't deserve America; to be sold out so completely.
You cannot tell me that no one else saw this coming or has the balls to call him out.
'Maybe this is actually who they are and I've been deluded . Silly me 🤮
No, Frank, many of us saw this coming, but not enough seemed to care enough to get off their lazy asses to vote. We'll have another chance, but only if Drumpf doesn't cancel elections for some phony reason.
Lucian: Putin’s Manchurian Candidate is is following the script perfectly.
What’s Putin’s checkmate move? His endgame?
If it’s a country half of whose electorate thinks this convicted felon-rapist-grifter-insurrectionist-puppet-of-a-hostile-foreign-power is going to create a Golden Age blessed by Jesus, well, it looks like that’s a fait accompli.
What’s left? A formal military alliance with Russia? The systematic destruction of the economy?
One bright development that probably surprised Putin is the Europeans rallying around Ukraine and Zelensky, to gear up their own militaries. I think he counted on most of them failing to do that. But in the meantime, Putin will be trying every trick in the book to keep all the stolen Ukrainian lands.
I'm reminded of the late '60s when we found out that the CIA was using info from the Peace Corps with its friendly local presences around the world, to capture and torture and kill resistance movement people in their own countries. The Committee of Returned Volunteers took action domestically to tell us what was going on so that we could resist.
Apology for using cheesy baseball imagery: Lucian, you keep hitting home runs with men on base, but "they" control the fooking scoreboard. I'd never seen the quote by Nikolai Patrushev you found. Oh! It's inadmissable and irrelevant, according to all of the credentialed legal puke-sniffers who surround T***p? Cui bono, you ask? Google Translate says that a Latin phrase to describe T***p is "insana avaritia." Even I can see "insane" and "avarice" coming down that linguistic via Romana.
I can't help but think the big liar stripping the USAID name from its building is connected to the Trump name having been stripped by popular demand from assorted Trump-branded properties
If you opened the faux Bible T***p held up at the Washington D.C. church photo-op, you remember that one, would Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12 both say "Do unto others what you think others have done, or are going to do, to you."
History books show that when it comes to human evil, especially of the authoritarian (make that dictatorial) kind, we humans are pretty much left to our own, often-frail, devices. Oh, right, the new! improved! better-tasting! American model of authoritarianism is not to burn those history books, just to ban them.
I bet you are right there! Just like he had to own the Kennedy Center and hire Bobby, JR. after Caroline's and other cousins statements about him! Revenge is only motive in life.
No suprise. As a organized crime investigator I knew Donald was a criminal in 1976.
Today At 84 I know he is a compromised psychopath.
He, " dosen't care"
However I think Xi Jinping is smarter than Donald the narcissistic and Valdimir the bureaucrat functionary.
Vinegar Joe Stillwell said back in the 1940s that anyone looking into the future must consider China very seriously.
Try the book, "The Hundered Year Marathon " by Michael Pillsbury
China is looking for its Sixth Hegemony. Donnie's tariffs may cause XI to put him in a choke hold.
Apparently the author served in several Republican presidents, including Trump’s first go-round. He known as a China Hawk.
Yes. And there are a number of other China Hegemony works.
Take your pick.
I hear you! And what does that say about who got him elected President. Hmmm!

Everything.
Oh but he does…from the Biggest Bully Pulpits of all the White House and Congress!
Yes, everything he says, every speech he makes has the words and tone of a rally.
Correct. He controls the venue, the narrative and the microphone. You disagree? You can sit outside the White House like the AP.
Trump no longer needs to do rallies. The base already got him into the position he wanted, it doesn’t play much of a role keeping him there. Now the focus is manipulating the institutions of government and enforcement to protect him.

I think it has everything to do with it. The Russian Agent is too chicken to face crowds of angry people.
The GQP/MAGAT gutless eunuchs who are getting yelled at have every bit of it coming. They do not deserve any other treatment.
For one thing, he actually got about 1/3 of votes from eligible voters.
How did he win then?
He got about 1.5% more of the popular vote than Kamala did, and a substantially larger number of electoral college votes.
Did no one believe that the outcome ought to be looked into for signs of tampering?
By Musk and Company! That is what I believe!
The spineless Democrats have abandoned the Democrats. We're on our own.
If we’re on our own let’s make that a GOOD thing!
Then let's band together and oust the GQP/MAGAT cult cretins in 2026.
IF there's a mid-term. Anything is possible with Dump.
You're right. That's a pretty big "if".

If you opened the faux Bible T***p held up at the Washington D.C. church photo-op, you remember that one, would Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12 both say "Do unto others what you think others have done, or are going to do, to you."
i'd like to think that an offended deity will soon demonstrate that "Vengeance is mine" (Romans 12:19).
So we all hope and (some of us) pray.
All it would take is just one lightning bolt on the golf course.
