I really think this one should be published in every major newspaper in the country. It should definitely be sent to cable hosts...I will do that myself via twitter.

I agree with you that it should be published everywhere. Yesterday, a friend of mine, a lifelong Republican—who, I hasten to add, was appalled by Trump from the outset and would not have voted for him if you put a gun to his head—called me and said, “That’s it. I’m officially done with the Republican Party and anybody who calls himself a Republican.” His voice kept breaking while we talked. I’ve sent him a number of Lucian’s columns, and I know they played a role in his thinking.

I keep thinking the whole column should be published, but what newspaper would have the guts? Maybe Wash Post or The Hill…?

The WaPo and the NYT would probably. I don't know about The Hill. But there are also outlets these days run by disenfranchised Republicans (the "old" GOP) and I think they would jump at this. Maybe The Bulwark and the Lincoln Project?

Thanks again, Lucian, for your passion and commitment. It is critically important (essential) that this truth of the events of Jan. 6, 2021 being a Republican insurrection be indelibly recorded for posterity. There must be no room for confusion.

Two weeks shy of my 70th birthday, I am similarly gobsmacked. I was a sentient, politically conscious adult through Watergate, Iran-Contra, and numerous other scandalous doings. But the sequence of events since Trump lost the election -- the dozens of court challenges, virtually all unsuccessful; the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol; the idiotic audit in Maricopa County, AZ; the tsunami of voter-suppression laws proposed by Republicans in almost every state -- is like nothing I've ever seen before. All my life I've heard people say that "our government is f*cked up." I've said it a few times myself. We had no idea WTF we were talking about. We had no idea just how bad things in this country could get.

Thank you. Couldn't be a fuller and better explanation of the sheep who followed McConnell's admonition against even meeting with the mother and partner of a Washington policeman slain on January 6. He was afraid a meeting might change minds and approve the proposal. Yes, the first Commission was bipartisan. McConnell speaks now as if the very presence of Democrats on a January 6 Commission would make it partisan, instead of bipartisan. Of course, the difference is that the 9/11 Commission investigated the role of foreign terrorists. Not so important when the terrorists are home grown Republicans, is it, Mitch? Shameful.

Not an alarmist, but do we live in a country with AR15s etc weapons in the hands of people willing to end the lives of legislators and citizens who disagree with their political views? And Q?

The worst C-in-C in the history of this country has scared the Senate into sedition...Romanov the Senate and the Trump crime family for openers.

Good stuff. Only fitting that the filibuster should be trotted out for this. The World's Greatest Deliberative Body turns out to be just another asylum run by the inmates.

Bravo, Lucian! Truer words have not been spoken. This unique brand of American fascism must be stopped and vanquished from the land of Lincoln and Jefferson.

Worse, worse, worse, and worse than THAT is the Georgia FUCKNUT congressman who actually fought against the rioters and then publicly stated this week that it was basically a normal tourist day at the Capitol. He didn't know what the difference was. Just average Capitol visitors staying inside the velvet ropes. What the flying fuck? It was perfect Orwellian "Newspeak" byte with the only thing missing, his release papers from Room 101.

Hello Lucian, I just joined as Founder. We have a similar military background, although my CO saved me from an Admiral. A classmate later told me he thought I would either be CNO or courts-marshalled, about an even chance.

We all know what DJT is and does; what I think is needed is a new, pointed narrative, versus continuous moralistic comment on what is now Obvious. I am in the process of writing and will need a way to share a document. It begins by labelling DJT and his true believers: the Trump Klan Cult; the TKC (in another life I once met with 3 local heads of the KKK). The TKC are the Rhinos. They constitute a mafia like, subversive criminal group, intent on overthrowing our Democracy with a white minority, fascist government headed by DJT. It will turn out to be similar to both the Hitler and Stalin regimes. Those who will be most shocked will be most of his loyal followers. All those who now believe themselves Republicans should declare themselves Independents until the RNC completely rejects DJT; no more Rand Paul polite, oblique talk.

Any interest?

Is there a way to send a document to you without typing the whole thing in as a Comment?

Another "small world", we lived in C'ville about the time the second family was being talked about more openly, then for 10 years a block from the Lee monument in Richmond, a city I characterized as " a southern belle with a social disease".

The only reason I can see that the Republicans killed this bill (at the behest of McConnell) is that they're directly complicit in the events of Jan 6 and they don't want to be found involved in the planning or the set up.

Because from what I understand several members gave some tours to the would be attackers of the Capitol, and by that it would seem they gave the road map to the layout of the Capitol. They probably don't want to stand accused of treason but right now that 's the best dam word I can give any of these traitorous spineless worms (and I'm being polite.).

I want the Democrats to form a commission in the house and make it have powers of subpoena to the point where we can get phone records of every single Republican during the time before during and after.

Then we'll see who the real traitors are, and expel them as such from Congress. Treason is still a workable reason for expelling a member without any further ado.

And it'd be an damn improvement over what we have now.
