It seems to me these are crimes that cannot be excused by "I was just following orders". When this is finally over I hope to christ the Democrats have the balls to run a Nuremberg.
Personally, I feel everyone who has been a part of or aided this regime is a traitor to this country. The dictionary definition of "traitor" doesn't strictly apply, but it seems to be the most fitting term. Mark Kelly and five other congresspeople made a prescient video to remind the American people, and the military, that military personnel should not follow illegal orders. Much as I dislike the thought, those military who carried out strikes on boats, seized ships, bombed Iran, etc., are also traitors in my book. They should all be subject to the American justice system, once it is restored to a reasonably objective system based on law, not politics. Let's all hope that day comes sooner rather than later
Let us hope that the next non MAGA US president gives these criminals over to the International Criminal Court where they can face the justice they deserve for international war crimes.
Donald Trump was always horrid, but his crimes know no bounds. Even though he is cognitively slipping, and is at a point where he cannot learn new things, a necessary requirement for his job, he still remembers how to steal, grift and kill. He is an international war criminal, and a criminal in his own land, on his own throne as he would have it. He is surrounded by people who are willing participants in all his crimes and he in their crimes. Do we trust these people? NO! Do we trust anything this regime does or tells us? NO! Do we trust him on anything? NO!
He could never learn new things; his inability did not start with his cognitive slippage. He could never learn anything because he has always been too weak and insecure to acknowledge that there was anything he didn't know.
It is the fact that he is mentally declining that makes him so dangerous, especially since none of the sycophants, flunkies, and hangers-on around him are willing to say "no".
"Trump does what he wants, and there is nothing to stop him. The law does not apply anymore. The Supreme Court took care of that."
The House and Senate Republicans can stop him. The Supreme Court has not ruled that he cannot be impeached and convicted. The House and Senate Republicans are morally responsible for Trump's 192 murders of people in boats and for all his other crimes.
I understood that the supreme court ruling covered his official duties. He's doing a lot of stuff that is not official stuff by any stretch. Actually most of it. I know he can bob and weave and say it all is, but it is not.
In refusing to stand up against Agolf Shitler, those GQP/MAGAT Cult gutless eunuchs in the House and Senate are as guilty of Shitler's crimes as he is.
Theoretically, Congress can stop him, the reality may be far different. The dictatorship isn't set in concrete yet, but if and when it is Trump won't have any use for them or the Supreme Court
As I wrote before, if Lucian had taken a proposed novel to a publisher 12 years ago, about a convicted felon with a wife who posed front nude for porn, was a pussy grabber and bragged about it, led an insurrection against the US, lied blatantly and pathologically, was in the initial stages of dementia and became US president, he would have been laughed out of the office.
The publisher might also have pointed out that section 3 of the 14th Amendment makes insurrectionists ineligible for any federal or state office. Twelve years ago, the Republican politicians on the Supreme Court hadn't yet made the provision effectively inapplicable to Trump.
I used to think we could save ourselves by voting in the November election but I am increasingly doubtful that The Bloated Yam will accept the results. Hopefully I'm being unduly pessimistic but my doubts are growing.
I thought for sure that voters would see how completely unqualified Trump was to be president in 2016 and vote against him. I was wrong. Then in 2020 and in 2024 I expected blue waves because it was evident how destructive the Republican agenda was. Wrong again. Now I am hopeful for 2026 but I am certainly worried that due to do Republican gerrymandering (read cheating) combined with voter ignorance will allow them to steal the election.
Guaranteed he will not accept the certified results of November’s election! And there probably will be hardcore R Senators as well as MOCs who will insist that Dems cheated and who will challenge the results legally as well as politically. The next five months will be a very rough ride followed by more of the same with some Republican judges insisting that the certified results are faulty! We just must obey the law until then and after and defeat them by substantial margins in both Houses! So let’s get to work?
Dean Blundell posted a very interesting essay today, on Substack, titled "Nero on the Potomac". I don't know why but it seemed to reduce the way the air is always zinging with tension these days. He points out that there's a pattern to the fall of empires being ruled by narcissistic sociopaths who mistake themselves for the governments they lead. Not having any boundaries or limitations from anywhere makes the process a sure thing. There's a reason no one is above the law. Is it too late to impose consequences here? I don't think so. Especially if we aren't aiming for world dominating influence.
Egalitarianism can work among nations and would allow far more well being than trigger happy white supremacist no stops capitalism under dictatorships. Let's not aim to be an empire again. A socialist democracy or democratic socialism is not at all far fetched. Sharing the world around is not pie in the sky. It is survival. Withdrawing our participation monetarily as much as possible and building all our connections within a resistance may lead to interesting new paradigms and systems.
Yes, you're probably a lot more correct than I am. I'm thinking more along the lines of dominance, influence, and theft; including from all the Indigenous tribes, from Mexico, Hawaii, Haiti, CIA covert operations in Latin America, and the lead decision making at the UN. My history isn't very good. I know England, Spain, and France are more commonly and more literally identified as Imperial nations.
We have repeatedly seen Trump move fast to nuke some agency or organization, causing staff to relocate, resources to be dissipated, institutional knowledge and experience to be lost, sometimes also with a cost in human lives (e.g.: AID), only to see a court say it was illegal. But you can’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again. And nobody has the gonads to get it stopped.
Look how easy it was for the DOGE kids to wreck federal agencies, eliminating experienced employees without any due process, and then Trump eliminating federal grants for universities he considers ‘woke.’
"If there are enough of them" AKA good people in America. In my 88 years on this little blue ball with the serendipity of having an atmosphere that supports life - and even a little bit of moral intelligence here and there - I hope and pray we do. And enough energy and courage to defeat our fellow humans who don't.
Trump has long followed the counsel given to him by his mentor Roy Cohn, that it's easier to just do what you want than to ask permission. When anyone objects Trump just tells them to sue him if they don't like it. Most don't, but when they do he counterclaims and blames the victim. Even if he loses endless appeals exhaust the opponent and most give up. It's terrible but why would he ever change until someone stops him? He's like a Dracula a deranged orange monster and can only be stopped one way, votes or impeachment.
We Americans now live, literally, under a regime as evil as your piece is well-written. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., on what he learned from the American CIvil War: "Certitude leads to violence. This...proposition...has an easy application...to ideoologues, dogmatists, and bullies--people who think that their rightness justifies them in imposing on anyone who does not happen to suscribe to their particular ideology, dogma or notion of turf." And one more from Holmes: "The only prize much cared for by the powerful is power." You can see that in the dead eyes of the DT-47s, which say, Make them who are not us jump or cower; if they do neither, jail or kill them.
"Make them who are not us jump or cower; if they do neither, jail or kill them."
Indeed. Agreed. Those who live by the sword die by it and every single one of the maladministration mopes qualifies for terminal punishment. Every GD one of them.
"I don’t believe if a drug dealer or drug smuggler was arrested, tried and convicted that there is a federal statute allowing a death sentence for a drug crime."
The Supreme Court has held that capital punishment may be used only for murder. In 2008, it overturned a Louisiana statute that allowed it for the rape of a child who did not die.
"It needs to be said that this country is in more trouble than it has ever been in. It can be saved by people of goodwill, but the question is, are there enough of them?"
I will not endeavor to speak for anyone else. I am not certain that I could be called a person of goodwill with regard to this context. I am most certainly biased. Therefore, on the first Tuesday of November this year, I will cast a ballot that first and foremost will do everything within my power to change what our country has become. Of that I am certain!
That's not all! Between now and then, I will do everything I can to recruit additional people of goodwill. I have sworn two oaths in my life. One was to my lovely wife Lois; the other was to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.
I will not fail either one! One day at a time! From now until November! One. Day. at. a. Time.
It seems to me these are crimes that cannot be excused by "I was just following orders". When this is finally over I hope to christ the Democrats have the balls to run a Nuremberg.

Those found guilty at Nuremberg were HANGED. If only that punishment could be given to ALL those guilty of crimes against the United States!
Let us hope that the next non MAGA US president gives these criminals over to the International Criminal Court where they can face the justice they deserve for international war crimes.
If you are a US citizen or have US residency, would you please read my piece explaining the campaign to impeach Trump and his cabinet and help us get 2 million signatures by signing the petition in it? https://lindaweide.substack.com/p/indivisible-abroad-supports-the-impeach?r=f0qfn
If you can't find the link to the petition in the above piece, here it is.

I signed the petition.
Currently the GOP is rigging upcoming elections and if Trump thinks its not enough rigging he will find away to cancel elections.
Murder by Bullets or Ballots is still murder.
Those six military folks and their video warned troops.

Can but refuse to, so we remain stuck.
He could be stopped. Those who could are as culpable as he is.
I understood that the supreme court ruling covered his official duties. He's doing a lot of stuff that is not official stuff by any stretch. Actually most of it. I know he can bob and weave and say it all is, but it is not.
Damn Straight! They are Tramp's accomplices, and are just as guilty!
In refusing to stand up against Agolf Shitler, those GQP/MAGAT Cult gutless eunuchs in the House and Senate are as guilty of Shitler's crimes as he is.

Yes, and now we have a king while president. The Founders are rolling in their graves. LOL

„Doughnut economics“. If only we could wave a magic wand and just get there…
The Guardian today has a couple of articles on the Caribbean boat strikes with interviews of relatives and photos of some of the missing.
The boats were not bringing the drugs to the United States. This was not our fight. It was Hegseth’s love affair with blowing things up. 🤬
Thank you Lucian. Don’t ever stop. We will defeat this monster one way or another. 💪🏽

Shee-rah, see below.
We will see. I can't not try, can't not hope. But yes, it's existentially bleak.

He’s not a healthy guy, so perhaps he’ll die sooner rather than later.
We live in hope.
The ONLY thing that will stop him is his DEATH.
Silver Stake.
that might work too!
He has to be officially deemed mentally unable to continue, thrown out via the 25th amendment. He's already been impeached twice.
The 25th A would never work. JD and a majority of the cabinet would first have to declare Trump unfit which would never happen.
"has to be" sez who??? We have no power to make that happen.
Exactly. Republicans have to do it. They won't.
I would suggest a wooden stake in the heart...fitting punishment!
Hammered in slowly, while the SOB is still conscious.
I like the idea of seeing him hanging by a rope, swaying in the breeze.

Never in my 57 years have I been so horrified by what is in my news feed each and every day. This cannot be sustained.
I am grateful to be nearer the end of my life than the beginning. Pity the young folk for the apocalypse we’ve left them.
Lucian you and Tracy know me well enough to understand how deeply disturbed I am by all of this when I respond with one word: snipers.
McDonald's is on the case...stay tuned!!!
And, will time run out before we can save it?
