When government agents performing arrests in this country are able to do so without identifying markings and in masks, it invites murderers, like this one, to disguise themselves as the law.

That had been my worry from when the young woman was arrested during Ramadan in Boston, that the fact that they covered their faces means that we should be accepting gangsters kidnapping us. Our version of Hitler's brown shirts. It is very scary, and I don't know what it will take to get rid of Trump and his kakistocracy.

Here in western Massachusetts we had very high turn out at the two protests I went to, one in my town, one down the road about 8 miles in Northampton. It was packed even in my little town of 2500 people and in all the surrounding larger towns from what I've seen. Totally peaceful, high vibrations and generally joyful! I didn't see any opposition at either local though one truck zoomed by in my little town, luckily no danger to anyone. The felon rapist sure is a f'n disaster...

If Republican legislators in Minnesota have any decency (what a ludicrous thought!), they will hold no votes until the Democrats have replaced the deceased representative and the surviving one is back at work.

Lucien, notice the absence of the Perpetrator in Chief , making no comment of sorrow, regret, urging citizens to come together to fight hatred and bigotry. With all that’s befallen our people : tornados, fires, floods, illegal incarceration by ICE, not a word of condolence or remorse… no traveling to the sites of devastation. Perhaps he’s physically incapable of throwing rolls of paper towels at 79. I envision him telling his lackeys how happy he is that those who just perished in Minnesota were Democrats. Military parade costing billions while decent people are hungry, homeless, hopeless. What a bloody fool we’re saddled with. The Middle East? John Foster Dulles was Secty of State while I was a high school student and he predicted that World War Three would likely begin there . Heart- breaking to have such a beast as our President.

I disagree with the State's blanket guidance to stand down from protests in MN.

That's the type of response people like the assassin and his sponsors (tfg, li'l johnson, thiel, noem, hegseth...) intend.

Let's not just give them the "W" unchallenged.

Certainly, any persons who feel unsafe are to do what they assess is best.

Likewise, those of us who choose to carry on - and feel at peace - absolutely should.

I disagree. It is not known if the suspect is acting alone and they found a hit list in the vehicle that includes politicians and others.

Until the suspect is apprehended and more details are known it is smart to stay home.

There will be other protests and I would suspect even more especially on a daily basis.

In California, honking is the approved way for drivers to show their support, either on the streets or on the freeway. Even bus drivers honk. I've noticed this for over 20 years.

I was with a friend at the Bourne rotary just at Cape Cod’s entrance. Several hundred of us there this morning. Many drivers in support. A few arselingtons drove by with thumbs down or middle fingers flying, but mostly wonderfully supportive: horn honking, thumbs up, even yelling “thank you” through open windows. As I attended the women’s march in NYC the day after IT’S first inauguration, I’m hopeful that today will be the start of a more positive effort to bring about the end of his reign of terror.

Same here in San Diego at the County Administration Building/Waterfront Park. HUGE turnout. I parked almost a mile away and walked with the many many others with their protest signs heading toward Waterfront Park. Walked back as well a couple of hours later, many cars passing me on the one-way street, honking & waving. Mobilize has estimated 50,000 and counting, and that's just this one location - another protest was to form up at the City's Civic Center perhaps 1/2-mile away. Temperature in the low 70s, hot sun once the morning clouds receded, but thankful for a nice ocean breeze down by the waterfront.

How long is it going to take before the "mainstream" media starts taking Trump's rhetoric seriously and stops both-sides-ing every damn thing? I ask the same of elected officials. Politics isn't a game. People's lives are very literally at stake. The Republicans probably believe that they're safe from assassination because the "Second Amendment people" are on *their* side. How bad does it have to get??

The ongoing and increased threats against our lawmakers since the trump regime came back into office have not stopped because we get zero information from the regime about what they are doing about it. If those who have the propensity to do this violence are seeing nothing being done, then the message becomes clear that it is tolerated.

Next we will see more law enforcement killings and more will not trust their local law enforcement.

It just fucking angers and saddens me.

You're exactly right, and it makes me furious. Do the Trumpers know what they're doing with their continuous unhinged rhetoric? I'm not sure. They've got it through their heads that this is "free speech" and liberals are too sensitive. They've been sowing the whirlwind for years, going "nyah nyah, nyah nyah" whenever anyone calls them to account. Just like the bullies they are. They may not realize that tolerance has limits, but it most definitely does. The outcome will not be pretty.

Re: Law Enforcement killings. I have not read very many reports of cops shooting BIPOC the same way I did several years ago; most of these seem to have gone away from public scrutiny. I am really, really worried about this acceptance of "tactical units" wearing no badge/patch/ID when they are taking enforcement action. Don't even get me started with the military cosplay of law enforcement. Even as a member of our SWAT team with my county agency, we had identifying badges and name tags; and even though we wore what was called at the time BDU's (battle dress uniforms, or basic daily uglies) that was for both practical and tactical reasons (dry clean only tan shirts are VERY visible at night, plus dry cleaning costs).

I am wondering if the police homicide rates have fallen, or if they are just going unreported.

This is the terror regime that trump is being led to install by the project 2025 anarchists who are actually in control of the White House. Trump didn't order Ice to show up, masked and warrantless, Homan did. He didn't write the speeches demonizing Democrats, and prompting scattered cheers from, hand selected troops at Ft Bragg, Steven Miller probably penned that one. The truth is that trump is the best figurehead because he sucks all the air out of each news day, while the people committed to turning our country into a white, fascist kingdom have free reign to sow terror on our streets. Unfortunately, there are too many aggrieved losers, who outgun the police and who see the murder of Democrats as their only shot at a moment of, "glory."

This is tragic but not surprising given the violent rhetoric Trump has spewed since he rode down that gold escalator in 2015. Do you forget how, back then, he encouraged supporters at his rallies to be rough with protesters at the rallies? That he told police not to be "too nice" with suspects when putting them into police vehicles - let them bump their heads on the vehicle roofs? That there were nice people on both sides at Charlottesville (including the side that killed Heather Heyer)? Or his incitement of the mob on January 6? He has lowered political discourse into the gutter - nay, lower than the gutter - and ignored, if not encouraged, the type of political violence that has taken root in our society. It has to stop. And he must be ousted from an office that he besmirches every single day and hour.
