I don't know if things changed after my discharge, but when I was in the Army we were instructed in no uncertain manner to keep our fingers away from the trigger (including on the trigger guard) unless combat was imminent. Unless they are preparing for a firefight with Santa Claus, those fingers on the trigger guards are irresponsible weapon handlings. Not for nothing, but the left-handed daughter is also pointing her weapon more or less at your youngest brother.
