We’re all waiting to hear from President Biden about what sanctions he’s going to announce against Russia and Putin. I think everyone had better get used to the idea that whatever happens in Ukraine over the next weeks and months, this is going to be difficult and hard on us. We are going to have higher energy prices across the board. Travel to Europe this spring and summer is going to be harder…more security, more passport and visa requirements, more difficulty across the board with a war happening on European soil. Other prices will probably go up as the financial markets tighten and money doesn’t move as freely and cheaply.
We don’t have troops on the ground in Ukraine, but we are at war with Russia in every way but bullets. As citizens, we are going to have to be on the ground with Ukraine in our hearts and our wallets. Ukraine’s war with Russia will make demands on our economy and on our unity as a nation. We are going to have to pull together politically, as difficult as that will be for certain Republicans. The country needs to be united in its response to this aggression by Putin and Russia. If that means “supporting Biden,” then that’s what the opposition party will have to do.
Anything less is to take Putin’s side against democracy and freedom around the world. This is going to be like the Alamo, a line in the sand. Which side are you on? If we are not going to pay a price in the bodies of our soldiers, sailors, and airmen, we are going to have to pay a price elsewhere. Pulling together is never easy, but pulling together against a madman like Putin should not tax our political parties.
If we are not all on the same side politically in this country, at this moment, we are all Ukrainians, and we should act like it.
The GOP is already blaming Biden. Drumpf has stated Putin is doing the right thing. Fox News is on Putin's side. Republicans no longer believe in or support democracy.
It seems like a time machine just put us in 1939..
