We needed this

Yes we did.  We needed a mob of out-of-control rednecks to storm the Capitol of the United States of America and loot the building.  We needed for these necks to “take possession of the Capitol,” in the words of Brian Williams right now on MSNBC.  We needed to see Capitol police and D.C. metro police, some of them in riot control gear, “stand back and watch” as these violent Trumpazoid shitheads, every single one of them white, ran through the Capitol waving Confederate flags, grabbing everything that wasn’t nailed down, including the podium used by Mitch McConnell himself on the floor of the Senate chamber.  It’s absolutely clear to me that we needed to bear witness, once again, to how law enforcement reacts when domestic terrorists who are uniformly Caucasian riot and steal and break things and shoot a woman inside of the Capitol building itself, as compared to how they act when, for example, a black man named Jacob Blake, attempts to get into his car with his kids in the presence of several law enforcement officers.

Just in case you forgot, Jacob Blake was shot in the back 7 times by a white police officer.  That’s what happened to him.

How many white followers of Donald Trump, how many white rioters looting the Capitol, how many of the Confederate flag-waving rednecks were shot in the back?  Zero.  How many of them were even stopped and arrested as they ran through the Capitol breaking windows and stealing stuff and shooting at people?  As far as I could see, not many.  Certainly not enough.

We needed this.  We needed to be reminded that for a little less than two weeks anyway, we still live in Donald Trump’s America, where the Senate and the House of Representatives could not even perform the duties mandated to them in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution, the task of receiving the votes of the Electoral College, counting the votes of the electors, and declaring the name of the winner of the presidential election, in this case, Joe Biden.

We needed this because this country has lost its collective mind and needed its nose to be dunked  in the cesspool of shit we have been living in for the last four years. 

If the sight of the United States Capitol being rampaged through and looted at the behest of Donald Trump by a mob of his racist worshipers doesn’t wake us up, I don’t know what will.

January 20 can’t come soon enough.  We needed this, but we need Joe Biden and a Democratic controlled House and Senate even more, and we’re getting both in 14 days.  Glory be.
