Excellent, Lucian! Yes, she is a spy and I ask you, how can the NBC execs not know that? Ah, but my guess is that they do and might even be complicit themselves. I heard that advertisers were threatening to pull their ads and I sure as hell hope they do! All of the newscasters on MSNBC had their hackles up, as were mine. If I hadn’t mouthed off about Elon getting slapped in the face by a judge today on Shitter (X), I would be trolling NBC by now. I am on timeout until some time tomorrow evening.

Of course they know, they did it for ratings but failed horribly in reading the room. NBC news may not be an Enemy of the People, but they're certainly an enemy of integrity. I feel sorry for the news staff, they're being led by a clown car of executives.

Expand full comment

"Clown car" is way too kind, Tom, for people so careless with truth, democracy, accurate journalism, service to the public, and the First Amendment. Perhaps they're angling for positions in a second Trump regime.

Marlene, when they let you back in, maybe you could remind NBC of the ultimate fate of Les Moonves at CBS, who opined that Trump was certainly bad for the United States, but he was also certainly good for CBS’s bottom line. That wasn’t what brought him down, but his personal stock was already taking a nosedive. It goes to character, doncha know. 😉

I have signed Move-On's petition and sent emails to the heads of NBC and MSNBC. If she wanted a tv gig, she should have applied to Faux Nooze where her lies and anti-democracy voice would have fitted in perfectly. I don't watch NBC (MSNBC for their late night hosts), but I am angered that any reputable network would feel this is good for their viewers, our country and our collective reputation. This seems to me like a suck-uip to who this network feels will be victorious in November. This hire cannot offer any legitimate, honest commentary on the last seven years while she has been instrumental in trying to overturn our democracy. Fire her!

"Faux Nooze" reminds me of a post I read recently:

Fox News is to "news" what a urinal cake is to "cake". I didn't record the writer of this gem.

Be careful NBC: it's a slippery slope!

I think you have hit on the reason she was hired.

In finance it is called a hedge; she is their hedge should Trump be elected and institutes legal attacks upon the MSM. NBC execs think she can protect them; what cynical, amoral schemers and dreamers.

Thank you for this Lucien. I don’t think anyone else that I’ve read or seen in the last few days has brought up this important point. Maybe I missed it, but I was so appalled I read and viewed TOO MUCH looking for a legitimate explanation regarding the betrayal of all our trust by NBC. Still waiting for that. She is definitely a spy! There isn’t a single move she can make that won’t be infected by her lying, cheating, dismissive, putrid, traitorous ways. She’s as likely to report back to her cult leaders regarding any inside scoop she can scrape together as the orange monster is to take money from a foreign interest.

I was struck by Lawrence O’Donnell’s comment that she even changed her name to please Trump. He then asked how she intends to explain the name change to her children.

It takes a very special kind of mind to deny your blood and family heritage in order to please the likes of Donald Trump. What comes to my mind is those ladies of the evening who ply their trade on Main Street and who once paid will tell you anything you want them to say.

Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell and Stephanie Ruhle all condemned the hiring on their broadcasts tonight, promised that RRM would never appear on any of their shows - and said they hoped NBC would reverse the decision to hire. Let's hope. It was a grotesque and cynical move to hire this person - and they have to be called to account for it.

Nicolle devoted an entire segment to this fiasco. Joy and Jen also expressed their views. I wrote the two execs at NBC, suggesting that perhaps they were working for Putin, since they had hired a known co-conspirator to the coup to overturn our election. I noted that Ronna belongs in JAIL, not on TV.

I do wonder, though-if the people at NBC are also not spies? Why did they let her in? What purpose does she serve them?

I've read where some network honchos believe Trump will win the election and by having her in the place, it's a big factor to get on Trump's good side.

I don't know if this will happen, but if the leadership for NBC gets into a snit about this (and they could) https://www.nbcuniversal.com/leadership there could be a few people gone from their jobs for this.

Because I'd wonder who the people who hired her are working for..and it's not NBC.

Short end: get rid of the spy and get rid of her enablers because traitors should not be employed.

I clicked on the link you gave us to their "leadership" but note there is no "contact us" option on their page. I will use Google to get to NBC itself.

Robert Hubbell shared these yesterday, sent by a reader:

President, NBC: Rebecca.Blumenstein@nbcuni.com

Just sent my letter to both:

Good morning, Ladies!

I understand that you decided to hire a known fabricator of truths and possible criminal to your network. It is beyond my wildest imagination why you would think the selection of Ronna would not cause backlash. We, The People, are fighting for our rights and for democracy every single day. We have, in the past, been very reliant on NBC on delivering unbiased news to us for over 60 years. So, what gives? MSNBC employs several former and present Republicans who are forthright and honest in their opinions. We cannot say that about Ms. McDaniel. She dragged the free press through the mud in collaboration with a rogue former prez, so much so that newscasters lives were endangered.

Please admit you have made a grave mistake and let her go. Otherwise, to quote the former attorney, Joseph Welch, during the McCarthy hearings “Have you no shame?”.

Sincerely,

Marlene Lerner-Bigley

I noticed that-I do think you could possibly use LinkedIn to find their emails. But I'm sure they're getting hammered for the outrageous hire not only from the ordinary outsiders, but their own people.

Most corporate people don't like to have their personal info available..just for cases like this. Don't say I blame them, either.

I suspect she won't last there very long given the uproar both within and without. But NBC will have to buy out her contract which is galling in the extreme.

DOJ derp derp a herp herp whaddya gonna do. I was once fifteen minutes late to court for a $25 ticket and the judge made me pay a $250 bond to stay out of jail on the spot. And that was when $250 was a week's wages, that is if you had a good job. DOJ is pro MAGAT. They give MAGATs break after break after break after break.

Ronna should be fired. She should also be indicted, but that seems to be a bridge too far for Garland's DoJ. And microseconds after she is fired everyone involved in her hiring should be fired as well. We suffer a dearth of journalism in this country which is one of the main reasons Dementia J. "Career Criminal" Trump is still relevant, NBC's move to hire Ronna makes that dearth even worse.

Yes, Bravo, Lucien and yes,SHE IS A SPY!I was undecided about whether to watch MSNBC tonight and most particularly, Rachel and Lawrence but am so glad that I did .Rachel was just wow and Lawrence as honed in.NBC must take Ronna Romney off of it's payroll and soon. This was a bone headed corporate decision and taking her completely off of the payroll is the only way that they can right this ship imho.

Imagine May, 1941, and the BBC hires recent-arrival-in-Scotland Rudolph Hess to deliver "commentary" about the Nazi position on BBC news programming. What? Your brain can't envision something like that? So much for your career at the top of NBC. It's also not easy to figure out what NBC thought/thinks it is getting. Insights into the authoritarian mind-set of what continues to call itself the Republican Party? As if Ms. McDaniel would or could "reveal" that. Oh. Right. Realpolitik. If Trump wins the election and comes after broadcasting licenses, McDaniel on the payroll will protect NBC. As if she wouldn't already have her Prada-designed MAGA hat on, not that it would save NBC --- or her.

Expand full comment

If Trump is on a rampage, even having Ronna McDaniel on the payroll won't protect them--that's what NBC and so many other media outlets are simply not getting. To protect his power, should he actually get elected, Trump will do anything and he has excellent examples of how to go about it with Putie and Orban mentoring him.

It will probably “save” NBC the company for shareholders.

This has been quite the shitshow since Saturday PM. Lucien. Your take on it makes the most sense, beyond the tanking ratings and viewership. Even pulling in MAGA viewers would be a long shot. They don;t watch the Fake News outlets. The corporatchic upper echelons are positioning themselves for a smooth transition to Chistian Nationalism, if they need cover. If Biden wins, nobody is going to shoot them. Hedging their bets, charitably speaking.

Yes, she admitted that Biden won the election, but she added, “I do think it’s fair to say there were problems in 2020.” That means that she effectively took back what she had just said, unless she was referring to problems that Trump, with her assistance, caused, but I don't think that that's what she meant.

Expand full comment

Yes, she is still spouting her talking points. There were NO "problems" in 2020 and she knows it. NBC apparently has no standards in its new hires - imagine paying someone $300,000 to lie on the job. What kind of execs do that? Putin employees, that's who.
