"What can I do to reduce the heat?" Plead guilty and go to prison would be a good start

He really is just a gangster, isn’t he?

Ahhh! The penny dropped! Now make the connection to Putin's mob.

Why are Americans so oblivious to the world beyond their borders?

Long ago made that, Susan. I’m married to a Polish woman who grew up in the Soviet Bloc.

Well, a large percentage seem to be clueless about how their own government works, and about what "rule of law" means, so I'm not all that surprised that knowledge of the world beyond their borders escapes them. Needless to say, I am not only talking about Trumpers, or Republicans either.

Never paid the big price...yet.

YES. Trump is a mobster, like Putin. They answer to Mogilevich.

Thanks. I googled him and now I understand things better.

When I first read that article (in referring to it in my previous comment on your previous column), I noticed that the day that the feds visited Trump at Mar-a-lago was none other than my 67th birthday.

A very fortuitous day for me, as it normally is, but one I think will go down into the annals of legal history when Donald Trump started his descent into legal hell.

As I previously stated, Mr. Garland is not a shrinking violet, nor is he a coward. I think he personally detests and despises Donald Trump for the liar, thief, and fraud that he is and is thoroughly repulsed and revolted by the sheer thought that Trump was once POTUS.

It can't help but be so to Mr. Garland, whose sense of legal propriety has been so thoroughly offended and that he has but one mission right now and that is to put Donald Trump into prison.

Because he isn't willing to allow him to destroy this country and he means every word he says when he states that there is no one above the law, and he will prosecute all those who have broken it, without fear or favor.

As I said, Mr. Garland is going after Donald Trump like he did John Gotti, who died in prison. Donald Trump once thought himself a likely facsimile of Gotti, and I think he should remember that.

The origin of the phrase “throw under the bus” is not entirely clear, but its meaning certainly is. How could anyone work for that guy, including lawyers, without understanding that they would be thrown under the bus or to the lions?

They are dumber than Former...

Really would be interesting to read the doc signed by the lawyer. I can't imagine a lawyer would certify something based on someone else's word, especially Trump's. So, it must say something to the effect that he/she is certifying it on behalf of Trump or something like that. Of course, who knows, the person works for Trump. People who hang out with him do some really bad stuff on his behalf and then go to jail for it, while he skates.

I can fully imagine a lawyer he employed would. Did you see her interview with Laura Ingraham who threw her a lifeline? She fumbled it and promptly threw some more gasoline on the fire stating she "believed" Trump had no classified documents. When Laura asked her if she knew that for a fact , she bumbled and repeated the same answer. My bet she does not have the highest billable rate in her firm.

Not necessarily: you can also be a white supremist and a Christian nationalist. Not all bigots are stupid-/but they all ARE morally worthless pieces of human garbage.

Everyone who has any involvement with his indictment, arrest, incarceration, trial and imprisonment will have to have to have protection. The fascists, unless something is done to suppress them, will relentlessly harass, intimidate, and threaten, or worse, anyone involved with holding their messiah accountable. These people have convinced themselves their violent behavior is justified, that god is on their side, and that they have nothing to fear. This is a holy crusade for them. Its very hard to defeat such zealotry.

when I read of that Times report, it occurred to me that perhaps that lawyer, fearing he/she could be charged for issuing a false declaration, was the whistleblower and recounted to DoJ that there was more to be found at Mal.

All the excuses they are making is pretty flimsy sofar, planted material, blanket declassification (which can't be done after he leaves office or even before as each document has to be submitted and relabeled.) Besides, that Top Secret nuclear arms document can't be declassified at all according to the experts, and is not even allowed to be kept in a private residence per the other "Homework" excuse. Iy can only be kept in a electronically shielded room where not even a cell phone is allowed. I see one of the lawyers could be in trouble too "CBS News has confirmed the @maggieNYT@GlennThrush

report that a Trump lawyer signed a statement saying the former president's team had complied with the federal subpoena regarding classified and gov't documents, following the June visit by nvestigators to Mar-a-Lago..."

Expand full comment

Also the layer who said everything had been declassified could be charged with lying to the FBI . You'd think a lawyer would know better.

Expand full comment

You do realize who his former lawyers were?

Not a surprise to have a less-than-brilliant legal analyst working for Trump.

Mostly because he's scared off all the real lawyers-he won't listen to them, and he's got a nasty habit of not paying them. That tends to trim the numbers a bit.

Expand full comment

Right. He hates to pay people. Loves to rake it in, but hates to fork it out. Loved the adulation of his followers, but detests them and thinks them fools for giving him money. He thinks how clever he is to be able to con them that way.

He seemed to think he could con everyone, including the feds.

Boy, does he have a surprise coming...

After your previous posting I needed some serious cheering up, so I re-read Hunter Thompson’s wonderful eulogy for Nixon. Magical! Trump is the same kind of nasty badger that Nixon was, but as Thompson reminded me dachshunds were purpose-built to deal with them. “How can I help” my ass.
