I was planning to get the second booster but... I got COVID instead! So far it's like a particularly messy cold.

I'll hold off on the booster for a few months.

Rest up, Lucian. We're eagerly awaiting your next take on Russia-Ukraine or one of your fascinating life anecdotes.

I'd like to know what you think of Bret Stephens' NY Times column today. He says Putin has head faked the west - he's in it for Ukraine's natural gas assets.

And pony up, freeloaders! This is quality writing, worth much more than a measly five bucks a month.

Pony up indeed. A bargain. Insightful reporting and informed analysis. Feel better LKT.

We had our 2nd boost on Tuesday. Either we are immune to its properties, or unbeknownst to us, we are in some sort of control group receiving placebos! In all 4 doses, my only reaction was in the form of a 9 hour sleep on the 2nd night! It was glorious. Feel better.

Feel better soon! I'm looking forward to my next booster, with or without side effects.

Good Evening, Fellow Readers,

Let me explain why you should pay for your subscription.

The old newspaper model was a three-way partnership between the publisher, the advertiser, and the reader. (A similar version is the current relationship in electronic media between the networks, the advertisers and the viewers.) The advertiser could and did put pressure on the publisher about content. But the newspaper was profitable and the newspaper had the readers. And the classified ads, with content provided by readers who also paid to have their ads run, were very lucrative. So the three-way deal made money for newspapers and gave newspapers the independence and courage to tell the truth. The high point of the era was probably the Watergate coverage by WaPo.

Then television and the internet changed the landscape. The classifieds left the newspapers, readers left newspapers for the internet, newspapers became money losers. Newspaper and magazines struggle to stay in business, and hundreds folded.

Yes, there is political discussion on TV, but it is tightly controlled by a few mega networks.

The Lucian Truscott Newsletter does not have advertisers or network chieftains like Rupert Murdoch to control or censor what Lucian writes. Here, he can tell the truth as he sees it. He could make a lot more money writing for a media organization but he would not be free to tell the truth as he does here.

This Newsletter and its readers are a two-party relationship: Lucian and his readers. You give, and you get. You want independent journalism free from corrupting influence? Then you should pay for it .The truth is priceless but you can get it here for only $60/year, a lot cheaper than the NYT and the NYT also gets money from advertisers. (Hell, my cable TV bill is $240 A MONTH !)

Worth every cent!

Sent a gift subscription to the son. He and I already enjoy long discussions. Your analysis/opinion doesn't always jibe with his take and it's always good to discuss viewpoints with him. Feel better, L.

your insight on military matters and your sharp political observations are worth far more than some cups of coffee. your entertaining forays into life experiences are better than dessert.

rest up, and hit us later on what you've come up with during that time.

Where did you get it? Nothing at Walmart or the VA here. Keep punching and stay off the ropes.

Maybe you got an overdose of Ukraine-Russia, Lucian. It's hard to look away, but we might need a mental break. Read a book about peace or rock 'n' roll or comedy - like Eric Idle's "Always Look On the Bright Side." You might tell us how you like your new place, if you've moved already and you feel like writing. Pick up on your great war writing after a weekend off. That's my (non)medical advice.

Take care and we'll wait with bated breath for your return. I've had a reaction to all of them so far, for a couple of days or so.

I’m getting mine tomorrow.

Hope you feel better soon

I was planning on getting my second booster tomorrow, too, Stephen. But after what Lucian says, I may have to plan on a recovery day.

Get better soon! We need your spot on analysis to help us process what’s really going on around us.

I'll be getting mine as soon as I can schedule it. It's only been three days since the CDC greenlighted the second booster; and I live in a world where most people are getting their shots, so this might take some time.

No need to make wild promises about tomorrow, take whatever time you need. And hot ginger tea.
