I skipped those for years and am ten weeks into chemo for the colon cancer they might have prevented. I’m fine and have a good prognosis but I commend you for doing the right thing and can attest that an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure, or maybe more. Good luck!
Ask your Gastro Gal or Guy for the Cadillac of Cleansing, 1 pill. While it does eliminate the bloating associated with drinking that hideous concoction, it doesn't make the cleansing experience any better or worse.
Good for you! My husband canceled several colonoscopy appointments because he worked 800 miles from home for 10 years with an erratic schedule. He passed away 5 years ago after a 3 year battle with colon cancer. I worked in the medical imaging field (MRI) for 20 years and I am, understandably, a huge proponent of screening tests. May your preventative test be negative.
Looks familiar. I have to have one yearly due to genetics. The prep is the worst part. The procedure is a breeze thanks to some lovely drugs. My best to you Lucian.
did mine two weeks ago. nuff said is right. it turned out to be a good thing i did it. they found stuff that had to be snipped and cauterized. now they want to see me again in 3 years instead of 5. ok.
One of the best things about the VA is that they don't make a big production out of everything. Not much "hand-holding", which is OK with me.
I had a colonoscopy at Maywood Illinois. I showed up cleaned out. I think I was driving home an hour later, though they want you to hang around for an hour. later. I NEVER FELT A THING. It was a great 20 minute nap.
The big secret to the VA for great service is to just show up 15 minutes early for appointments. Chances are, some jerk didn't show up. In the ER--which is total disgrace at every non-VA hospital--I've been treated and out the door within the hour many times. They attack your problem right away--they don't like people hanging around. A few weeks ago I was there for a record 2 1/2 hours, but about 2 hours was reading a book while waiting for blood test results. My ex's big Prescott hospital jobs out their tests, with results in 3 days---not good.
If I could just get my husband to go to our VA for an exam, I’d be happy. He harbors great disdain towards the government since he had been in Vietnam.
I know exactly how he feels. I felt the same way! It was not until the late 1980's that I started using the VA, starting at Hines VA Hospital in Maywood, IL.
I only went because a friend on my SVN Advisory Team said that the VA was testing for
Agent Orange cases and I needed to be tested. I went and I liked what I saw, and I continue to like it and use it.
But I do meet Vietnam vets who, despite what I advise them, will not go near the VA. Their distrust is that great. I wonder about the Afghanistan, Iraq, etc., guys....
AT the VA your husband, at the very least, will save a ton on any drugs he requires. Is he a cheapskate? Just needs his DD-214.
PS. Mu life long friend, Mark Stevens, said to send you his regards. He said he remembers you from days in the East Village in the 70s when you were both young writers

Noted! Good on yer!
I wish you the best, Bill!
Thanks, doing well. Much appreciated!
Sorry to hear that.
May you live a long life.
Thank you, been lucky so far.
If you can get away with green jello and not gallons and gallons of that prep drink, I'd like the name of your doc.
I love the humor of the picture, and wish you well.

My condolences on your loss. I walked a similar road when our boys were 9 and 11. I never miss a screening, for anything.
Thank you. And my condolences to you, also. It's a hard row to hoe.
It is every bit of that.
Get it now.
At 75 Medicare says no more without a "valid reason."
Assholes
Guess we are all expendable after 75.
At 80 and now at 82 i noticed that some medical personnel act differently. More so doctors than other medical employees.
And things have got more cold steel robotic. What would Susan Calvin, Say?
The last time i had a doctor come to my house to tend to a sick person was 1994.
Death panels!
Your last word on the matter was either infelicitous or intentional. 😏
I have to look up big words.
Maybe AI did it.
I assumed it was intentional.
One would like to think so.
Like Bill Smith said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Has Medicare recently changed the age eligibility to the 75 yr. cutoff? For shame!
This is from their website today. It says nothing about age, but they appear to have changed the interval.

U need to research.
My proctologist said, no "routinue" colonoscopy after 75.
Bill Smith?
Well in 84 Ruben Ortega said and ounce of appearance is worth a pound of performance.
No changes.
LOL

The prep is ghastly or gassy. Take your pick.
😹😹
Colonoscopy can be a very good thing.
The flesh clipped from mine turned out to be Melanoma.
The Oncologist has prescribed immunotherapy for me and it is working!
And I have to say that Mediicare + Medicare Supplement has paid for all of it!
Without those, I would have been in a world of hurt.

I took no post-op drugs. No need.

Courage, mon ami. You’re an example to us all.

Perfect👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Been there.Also tried Cologuard(❤️)
Cologuard user as well. Hopefully a similar type will be available 2replace the invasive endoscopy.
I think most of the US government needs a colonoscopy.
The preparation is the worst part and afterwards, you can do trumpet solos. I speak as one who knows...
Wishing you a great outcome.
You poor man! I hope it's all ok!
Hang in there, LKTIV. This too shall pass.
