Amen brother. The bullies continue to have their way through intimidation and the intimidated keep clutching their pearls and drawing lines in shifting sand. Haul Flynn’s brother in to testify and give him the opportunity to claim the honor of delaying the authorization of sending in the Guard. Can’t some politician give us a Howard Beale moment? It wouldn’t change anything but I’d probably feel better.
We grew up believing in our invincibility to divisive rhetoric, an anti Government actions. We were the folks wearing white hats, and to think that this belief in our strength through unity would just crumble with the weakest response imaginable, like some banana republic. It challenges what it means to be an American. It is disgraceful...
So long as the Justice system relies only on reactive responses and fails to identify activities as treason, incendiary, subversive, etc., we’ll always be behind the 8 ball. Agencies wringing their hands and considering “optics” where White militants are concerned, fail to due their DUTY: TO PROTECT FROM ENEMIES WITHIN AND WITHOUT.
If you ever want to be 99% certain that Republicans were behind political assassinations of the 60’s, just notice how they BEND OVER for these militants of their own party (and making).
I would have let them attack and thrown big nets over the Q freaks. Handcuff and charge them with Rioting and interfering with Congress, etc etc. Speedy trial with minimum of 90 days in jail for all participants. And, of course, TVs to show them that Trump was not inaugurated.
Another reason why the Volunteer Military is a flawed concept.
We have 2 full generations of Americans who did not have to serve.
The percentage of experienced members of Congress and Senate used to be around 50 per cent, now it is way less. This lack of experience is everywhere in this country's leadership.
Militias would not exist in the world our fathers gave us after World War II.
Sorry, Leigh, the Volunteer Military may be flawed, but conscription is more so.
I think it ironic that one of the bigger arguments against conscription, that it made it easier to go to war, turned out to be valid enough (it restrained, at least, Reagan, HW, and Clinton); but then W (actually Cheney, undoubtedly) got around it by abusing the National Guard and its personnel through compulsory multiple deployments (even Vietnam was “one tour and out”). In addition, ethical standards for recruits were lowered in the 80s (allowing for more serious criminal records), which may be a source of the neo-Confederacy problem currently being faced. Also, volunteer enlistment increased significantly after 9/11, meaning Americans will respond when an actual threat is perceived.
And, there were militias in the late 40s-50s; we just didn’t call them that. They were biker gangs and Klan groups, but the primitive communications environment of the time didn’t allow for it. Mobile phones, email and similar post-1990 tools helped turn them into “Militias!”.

What I mean is we need to grow and show a pair...
