I don’t believe they ever intended on re-counting the ballots. Most of the people involved know very well that Trump lost. They would hide behind some fake activity and then emerge with a fake number.

I do wonder what they were all smoking in those days-because if they couldn't figure out how to make a coup work, they weren't going to get anything overturned, let alone challenged in court-which they did, but it took forever to get that done, and even then, Biden won.

Jimmy Breslin wrote "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight."-I bet he would have had a time and a half writing a book called "The Gang That Couldn't Coup Straight", based on the events of the past Presidential election.

Hell, it would have been funny, too-if it hadn't been so damn close to reality. These people tried to pull off a coup when they had no idea how to do it, (and in fact, there was a real one just the other day in Burkina Faso) and thank god for that!

How did we end up with such a roster of fools headed by Trump? Is he a magnet for fools, charlatans and clowns? Must be, because that's all that follows him.

They did, however, manage to resurrect from obscurity the Electoral Count Act, which does need to be amended. However, amending or replacing it is not enough, no matter what Mitch McConnell says.

it sure wasn't weed because weed doesn't make you THAT stupid, unless you're stupid from jump box. aha!

As the details of the post-election plot began to surface, I thought "This sounds like a bad science fiction novel" -- you know, the kind where the author is too lazy or ignorant to work out the scientific details that make the fiction plausible? But the plotting gets worse and worse. Now I'm thinking it sounds like a really, really, *really* bad science fiction novel, as if maybe a winner of the Bulwer-Lytton Award didn't stop after one sentence but wrote the whole thing.

I suspect it was a dark and stormy night.

Susanna, you made this word-nerd's heart sing--Bulwer-Lytton indeed!

A one sentence Bulwer-Lytton type may have made it seem credible. But this just kept circling the drain!

I hate these people, but I get the impression the fine COL was one of those guys in a brainstorming session where there were "No Bad Ideas" and this got placed on the spectrum too far out to try. The math and logistics don't work for this to happen in reality unless they just went after swing states and counties where TFG lost.

Glad some upstanding government employee made sure the plan got put into the boxes going to the archives.

If this was a screenplay, the COL would be a good guy who planted an insane plot that the morons couldn't resist implementing.

Like the pied piper Trump lured all the rats out of the houses in the village, not to get rid of them but to recruit them to take over the village with him as their leader.

He did that with his Obama birther baloney...enrolled every one of those Fox fed racists to his cause.

It seems to me that the actions reek of sedition and treason. Just my .02 $…

Traitors, Liars, whores and thieves—sounds like a song Cher used to sing. Why can’t we just “hang ‘em high?”

We are a nation of laws, unless traitors capture the government.

That’s what George Washington would have done and what he DID do with traitors!

Digging their graves…as we speak. Strip the Colonel of his benefits, rank, and hell, just thrown him out by the seat of his pants, in a prison cell! The others plus TFG and his family…the brooms and shovels are ready for their asses to clean toilets and shovel their inmates sh*t!

So another ex career military officer was deep in the weeds of planning a coup which logistically was damn near impossible. Makes one wonder what they have been teaching at West Point in the past few years. First, Flynn now Waldron.

They will all be taking the Fifth very soon in one way or another. It is going to be the ultimate Stall ,stall and stall some more tactic to avoid putting into evidence the acts they took to organize and pull off the coup. And, I am still of the opinion unless the 1/6 committee quickly sets some priorities and fixes on some specific targets election day 2023 may produce a result which makes all of this investigation moot. There will be so many possibilities to prosecute but the clock will run out without any of these criminals facing any degree of a trial much less justice.

Absolutely correct!

Will we ever get the truth about the insurrection from these bad actors if they all invoke the 5th Amendment to every question? It seems like we might forever be left wondering.

Expand full comment

The 1/6 Comittee already has the truth. The guilty will all go down when the DOJ prosecutes them. All those subpoened cell phone calls and texts and... Too bad they didn't use pay phones at gas stations instead. Do we have pay phones at gas stations anymore?

Haven't see a phone booth in a long time. Where's poor Clark Kent going to change into Superman??

that's easy....the toilet in a Starbucks. there are probably more Starbucks branches in most cities than those cities ever had pay phones that worked.

They can use the Fox excuse that no one in their right mind would believe that what Tuckster says is true, and they won in court with that.

Go figure, but you can't refute it.

So this clown car of fools, all the way up the chain, can use the same excuse.

"We're obviously idiots! I mean, Four Seasons Landscaping? Like that isn't enough proof?

Then there's Rudy's hair die leakage and Sidney Powell's great befuddled Stooges act.

So it's on us that we would be fools enough to take them seriously. They were just funning' with us. Trial balloons. It's not on them if we're that stupid as to believe their bullshit.

I mean, get real hosers.

Given Fox's success with that defense there's even precedent, so I'd give them a better than 50% chance of success.

I mean, they're definitely all stupid enough, as all are we for getting this country into such a ridiculous messed up place as to actually have to give a shit about their insanity.

This is all on us.

Congress won’t doing anything because so many are involved. It’s time to call the Trump based republican party, national and local, a criminal organization and sue the whole lot in civil court (under the Rico act?). I would ask that all assets are frozen pending outcome. Trump himself has openly encouraged violence by his “foot soldiers” and these threats have been echoed by members of his criminal, not political, organization. I’m thinking $100 billion.

On the sunny side, there is no evil force like BARRf to redact the 1/6 patriots.

This is so complete. Applause, applause for “doing the math!” I really have a headache now. I know the 1/6 committee knows the truth, but when will they determine that they’ve heard the 5th used enough and allow the scale of justice to drop on the heads of these bastibles!

Expand full comment

What is a bastible in this context? According to Google it's a cast-iron pot with a distinctive concave lid. Say what???

There was a British comedy about Shakespeare’s life…called Upstart Crow…in which all “blue” language was replaced. Bastible was used for bastard. More obvious changes: bitchlington, arselington, and fottocks!

When I stopped laughing at your brilliant computing, the thought struck me that aside from being so obviously stupid, were they really just planning to throw ballots and voting machines and tabulators and systems into such a state of chaos and pandemonium that they COULD have their little "do over"?
