DeSantis is a loser. He voter suppressed his way to his first victory. Last fall the Democrats nominated a washed up has been ex-Republican who was a one man voter suppression machine who Democrats simply couldn't get behind. And now the war on woke, the war on Disney, the war on LGBTQ, the war on public schools are blowing up in his face. Even Republicans are tiring of it. He'll finish his term but he is unlikely to be re-elected again if the Democrats field a viable candidate. But the damage he has done and is doing to the state may be irreversible. Rich old white racists from the Midwest are still moving to the Villages, but thousands of people are moving out as well fleeing the bigotry and hate DeSantis has fomented and enacted into law. Undocumented immigrants, the backbone of the agriculture and construction sectors are leaving in droves for other states where they are slightly less hated.

And Rockin Ron still thinks his presidential campaign is viable? Why? Because his Lady Macbeth of a wife is telling him so? (Because she envisions herself presiding over WH social functions like Jackie O or maybe Evita) He can rearrange all the deck chairs he wants, but people are not buying what he is selling.

"Lady Macbeth of a wife" - perfect! But allow me to also suggest "Eva Peron of a wife." Those long gowns and long white gloves Casey favors fit that role model more.

Expand full comment

I see it. I think that's her personal goal - to be the Jackie O or Evita Peron of DC. To get there DeSantis has to slay both King Dump and King Dark Brandon, so like Lady M, she will encourage him and help with the plotting.

I agree. Jackie would never have worn opera gloves to a breakfast.

and "Casey" is about as white trash a sobriquet as I've ever heard.

Succinctly, DeSantis is a moron. Just like soooo many other repiglicans.

I'm not so sure any of the far-rightwing types are stupid. They are vicious, cruel, sadistic bigots who enjoy hurting and humiliating the people and institutions they dislike.

Expand full comment

They are truly cruel sadistic bigots. The policies they endorse, largely across the board, are staggering in their cruelty. To a high degree their constituents are the big losers.

Expand full comment

I guess the fact that their own constituents are ALSO the losers doesn't bother them. And, strangely enough, it doesn't bother the affected constituents, either. They would rather suffer, do without such things as reasonably priced healthcare, as long as they believe that the people they hate are suffering even more!

Expand full comment

I think you’re right. It has a lot to do with hate!! I live in an overwhelmingly repiglican county… In Douglas County, NV 33.9% of the people voted Democrat in the last presidential election, 63.4% voted for the Republican Party, and the remaining 2.7% voted Independent. I

It’s an issue.

I live in Desanistan, and giggle at Rhonda Santis's race to the bottom. When he snapped at a reporter a few months ago, I knew he was finished.

A debate with Gavin Newsom is upcoming, should be on Pay Per View. The governor who referred to slavery as a job training program has no clue.

I don’t understand why Newsom would stoop to debating DeSatan.

I don’t think he’s stooping. Great material for commercials should the orange one be otherwise incapacitated, and ronda ends up with the Republican nomination.

True. Him of all people. I don't get it.

I think Gavin is preening for his eventual candidacy for president in 2028. DeSatan needs to be seen on a national level so people can experience his evilness and ineptness. Newsom will circle him like ten hawks.

DeSantis is such a DeSaster in so many ways it is hard to count them all. Companies and organizations planning to hold conferences and conventions in Florida over the next couple of years are already cancelling them. The loss of business by hotels, restaurants, transportation services and other vendors that deal with the conference/convention industry looms large. AND, there is an outbreak or surge of leprosy in one of the counties in the state. LEPROSY! And malaria too. But he goes blithely on with his presidential ambitions grounded in bigotry, discrimination and authoritarianism, ignoring the needs of his constituents (in fact harming them), effectively driving the state back into the Middle Ages (or at least the 1950s). He should never be in public or appointed office again.

Expand full comment

He wants to go back to the 1850s, not the 1950s. Get those ni*****s back into those useful job training programs they were in back then!

Jesus. Do Ron and his band of politicos (not to mention his supporters) really think by not teaching about sex and gayness, it’s going to go away? Has that ever worked in the history of teaching?

Yawn. Snore. DeSantis is pablum. The New Yorker’s Andy Borowitz said today that DeSantis was looking for someone more appealing to replace him. Candidates number in the hundreds of thousands. Then there’s Casey, the liddle womin... one of the Repugnican women (Lauren Boebert too) wearing Groucho Marx paste-on eyebrows? They’re so disturbing! Am I too old to not be aware of a new “look?”

DeSatan is definitely in the running for the most loathsome creature that has American citizenship, for years now I thought the imbecilic orange turd had a lock on it, it's beginning to look like a close race between them. The positive take on the slime ball race is that they are sucking up enormous amounts of $$$$ that might be put to more nefarious uses, have at it boys! The sooner the repugnantkin party implodes the better off we will all be. I believe we need 2 parties for our democracy to stay in balance, one of the prerequisites of that happening is that they have to both have the interests of all Americans at heart, when you have that, good ideas can come from anywhere.

Broward County has lost $20 mil over the next three years in politically-related cancellations, per this morning's NPR news. The reporter Tom Hudson pointed out that that is a fraction of the state's $100 bil annual tourist revenue, but still. … That's a trend I doubt any public official would welcome. https://www.npr.org/2023/08/08/1192634062/recent-controversial-laws-in-florida-interfere-with-the-states-tourism-industry

There is much to dissect in IV's post, primarily polling. I pay no attention to legacy or mainstream media and their polls because they continue the horserace dance and produce skewed results. Like economists. Ten of them can offer disparate views of what current economic statistics reveal just as the many pollsters do. I have absolutely no faith in CNN or the NYT horserace polls, or any others. What we have to do, and must do is beat these bastards at the polls in insurmountable numbers. As for CNN, don't feed me the ballshite that Biden and the asshat are neck and neck. That's not polling.

It is highly entertaining that the Florida Governor's campaign keeps replacing operatives when the real problem is the candidate. And ...

"The new campaign manager is James Uthmeier, DeSantis’ chief of staff in his governor’s office." This man, however, has never been on the campaign end of politics. 🤪
