Look, Trump would fire him on January 20th. What Wray needs to worry about is Patel using the FBI’s mantra to go after him. There may be nothing there, but that won’t stop Patel from organizing a raid of his house in the middle of the night, issuing subpoenas, forcing him to interview over and over, just like they did to Hillary Clinton. He’s f**ked no matter what course he took. We will start to see a Reign of Terror the likes of which will make what happened during the French Revolution look like a baseball game.

It's good to be the King...sadly, no laughing matter these days!

It’s called “obeying in advance “ and only helps Trump feel more powerful. I have nothing but contempt for Mr Wray! My husband was in the Vietnam and risked his life making sure “no one was left behind”. Mr Wray’s cowardice is despicable

I blame this whole situation on the six conservative members of the Supreme Court. How did the Republicans find six lawyers who don't believe in the Constitution? Who believe in the right of kings? Is the Supreme Court, like so many Republicans, beholden to Putin for something? It's very discouraging and I hope California can withstand this. When I think that this is about the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, I wonder what happened to us.

Those Justices are also “Christians” (mostly Catholic) who clearly don’t believe in what Jesus stood for either. According to Catholic doctrine Jesus is the all-wise, all-knowing God who never once brought up, let alone condemned abortion or homosexuality but did condemn greed and lust for wealth. These pseudo-Christians clearly think they know better than Jesus/God. For Catholics, putting your own judgement above God’s is the ultimate sin.

I want us to secede and become our own country. Won’t happen but with Gavin going head-to-head with DJT, one never knows…

I'm a strong proponent of this idea. We are the fourth largest economy in the world.

Lucian,

Thank you. Despite the soon to be a memory of the rule of law, we must remain firm. I am with you. Be safe and watch your six.

I thought I heard on Nicole's show this afternoon that Wray's resignation takes effect on 20 Jan. It makes sense to me that he would defend his agents, I would expect no less.

I hope you are right about Jan 20

Thank you for clarifying all this. I didn’t even know what to think about it. Wray was appointed by Trump after he fired Comey, but obviously Wray wasn’t in Trump’s pocket. He could have stood up. A lot of people could still stand up. I was hoping they’d get together—behind the scenes—and vote all these criminals down. But I don’t think they’re gonna. Weaklings. Like Wray. All of them.

You nail it Lucian. Fortunately despite what people think Patel can not seatch Wray’s property etc without a judge

I do wish Wray had chosen to fall on his sword

Mr Truscott, I thank you for yet another taut, valuable, passionate column. You overvalue the disgraceful Wray, who protected the J6 criminals and is now cashing in on his years of protecting traitors. Wray’s cowardice is already accounted for and adds nothing to the bill of national crime for which we are all already paying.

This may not be what we think on first blush. Wray's resigning now just at the end of Biden's term means there has to be a confirmation hearing and Trump can't do a fancy two-step appointing him temporarily and then on day 91 appointing him permanently. Patel does not qualify nice and cleanly if Wrapy does this now. Political Wire has a very interesting excerpt from the NYTs on this. “By stepping down now, as the conservative writer Erick Erickson observed, Wray has created a ‘legal obstacle to Trump trying to bypass the Senate confirmation process.’”

“Here’s why. According to the Vacancies Reform Act, if a vacancy occurs in a Senate-confirmed position, the president can temporarily replace that appointee (such as the F.B.I. director) only with a person who has already received Senate confirmation or with a person who’s served in a senior capacity in the agency (at the GS-15 pay scale) for at least 90 days in the year before the resignation.”

Lucian, I must respectfully disagree about Chris Wray's resignation. The evil one has made clear that he will fire Wrey next month. Director Wrey did a good job leading the FBI during very difficult circumstances for seven years. I believe he has earned the privilege to leave the agency on his own terms, rather than be humiliated, fired without cause, and have his firing used as media fodder for the right wing nuts. As horrible as the outcome of this election was, that is not on Chris Wrey.

Just as sad was the fact that some Democrats were on the airwaves this evening praising his performance but 'saying he had no choice' That is giving in in ADVANCE also.. We have lost our way..

Remember, J Edgar Hoover did many, many sketchy things during the McCarthy, Civil Rights and Vietnam protest era of the 1950s through 1970s. Many of us had files kept on us. Patel's reign of terror may give Hoover some competition, but the tragedy we'll witness is a reverse in the progress we've made in the rule of law since the 1960s..

Have faith. The Liberal Left will rise again.
