ahh, so loving and real, takes me back to my chesea hotel days. i was a bit later than this, a sixties refugee, but it was pretty much the same. thanks, looking forward to more.
Loved it. Mostly because of the dialogue--easy, no artifice, no "writerly hand" lurking over it. Well, also the descriptions--sketched enough so we were there. (By this time, we've all spent some time with you --on paper anyway.) And the way the story seemed in midair--nothing definite, all to look forward to about you and this bagel-making girl who sounds smart and funny. Bring it on.
I recently threw over my 40-year-old crock pot (that cost $12.00) for a VERY fancy Staub pot. (Staub and Le Creuset are similar). It’s White with a chicken on the handle. I could eliminate a lot of cookware and just use it. It’s pretty enough to leave on top of the stove. . .
Thanks Lucian. Unlike for Patricia Arack, you won me over with the political and social commentary. This piece confirms to me my story-telling writing is on track. Clean, clear, direct.
Well, ya finally got me. Signed 5 bucks a month. Irresistable. The pot did it.
I have way too many LeCreuset pans. But I never got one for $40. I'm envious.
Is there a Part 1? Such evocative writing
Yes. Go look at my Substack page. It's about 2 or 3 weeks ago.
I can see them walking along a street in May, a relationship coming to life. Excellent writing all the way.
Lovely tale. Shopping Bloomie's--so New York.

I "lent" mine to an old girlfriend and she won't give it back...(maybe I should call Johnny Machine!).
Do you still have the pot? I have the same one in red and a bigger one in "flame".

I love your personal stories. Great writing! I felt like I was right there with you in that tiny living space.
