How could a self-respecting UES (New York City's Upper East Side for the abbreviation-challenged) woman "have bought the whole package" from a Bridge and Tunnel putz? ("Bridge and Tunnel" was, maybe still is, the way Manhattan snobolas referred to those "outer borough and Joiseyites who had and have to get into Manhattan every day using one of the bridges or tunnels. Staten Island residents arriving by ferry, not a bridge or tunnel, presumably live in a different area in Hell.

The weekly I worked for at the time, the then-start-up nyObserver, was looking for a lot of luxury boutique display advertising and she was exactly the type you'd expect to be able to sell space to those businesses. I barely knew her but she seemed to be nice enough. As I said, the soft spot for djt was inexplicable. It takes all types and she was one that I, a resolute downtown type, normally never run into.

I must say, these times are the revenge on Manhattan of the bridge and tunnel putzes. They've learned to appreciate the comforts of home—or the Murdoch media have scared them into staying there—and NYC is suffering for it. This week AM WCBS, on air for a century, all-news for 57 years, retired the call letters and went to full-time sports.
