How extraordinary it is, to read today's Lucian Truscott lucid analysis of your uncivil political war, for which I am so grateful, and to wonder, as an Australian outsider, how you folks ended up with what seems to amount to a self hating, sociopathic society bent on self destruction and what's more, by inevitable extension, on destroying me as well?

Your society's truly weird obsession with war, militarism and violence seems to permeate every fibre of its being. This personally affects me too, because of Australia's government fatuously, complacently and cravenly giving your American government free access to Australia for its AUKUS madness and your military bases which are more or less scattered across the length and breadth of Australia. Shocking! Moronic! Obscene! Secret! But what can I do, except wonder how and why the eff does America do this international imperialist brigandage? And why you let it happen?

And now I am by extension subject to the unutterably stupid whims of your poisonous, absolutely stupid, vapid, lying, apparently insane Republican politicians! And to Trump who is evidently glorying in his own dementia, ruling your roost and voiding disgustingly on my life too while America and its oligarchs jerk my pathetic, pusillanimous Australian government strings! And only about 52% of you bother to vote! Poor world. Poor me. Poor you.

I feel a special sorrow for people like you, living in other countries yet held hostage by whatever crazy shit that American voters do. What happens here affects the entire world, but the rest of the world doesn't get to vote on this crapfest.

P1: Astute observation. Is rooted WABAC in the American Revolution when a significant chunk of the populace sided with the Crown for a host of reasons. Within 2-3 GENs the pent up resentment was a contributory to America's [un] Civil War known to those traitors as the War of Yankee Aggression. Too many historians oversimplified the issue done to one, slavery. It goes far beyond into all the elements of culture. Emphasis, all.

P2: Pine Gap SIGINT to name one. At least that one is a joint base, sorta. America is not civilized, never has been, doubt it will ever achieve that status unless and until the yt-male patriarchy is destroyed. With it myth-making and hero building will go POOF. Only then will a polite and peaceful society will emerge.

P3: Pure PATHOS. Well-done.

Thank you Shadowcloud. I might have added BATHOS, too.

I have no desire to defend the stupidities inherent in the mentality of this country, but Australia isn't prcisely simon-pure by any means. The Brits did their level best to exterminate the Indigenous peoples in Australia, too. Plus they loosed Rupert Murdoch on the world, as well. He as much as any other politician or organization, could be held at least partially responsible for the cesspit of intelligence and culture into which this nation has fallen

Respect.

There are so many insidious pathologies to supremacy, and they manifest themselves in far too many ways. Glad you hit upon 2 that often go overlooked yet are interdependent, intelligence and culture. And for colorfully calling out Murdoch for his role in seeding, nurturing, amplifying and multiplying ignorance, fear, and hatred on multiple continents.

To your point on intelligence and culture, find it to be a broad movement toward anti-intellect and anti-virtues cloaked in the political movement of populism, a euphemism for puppeteering of the masses.

Generalizing that somehow ALL Americans participate in and support everything awful that you mention is grossly unfair. The USA is deeply divided, and at the moment the evil monsters are in the ascendent.
