Thank you for speaking the truth about this horrible situation. I have always been proud to be an American but it is truly a stretch now to feel that way. We must stop Donald Trump and the cowards who follow him like sheep.

This is so incredibly frustrating. How can other countries continue to trust alliances with us, and what will that mean for the world?

You have hit the nail on the head. Trump stopping the aid and border bill that was all set to go to please his hero over in Russia has had his desired effect. There is a clear-cut solution that's doable: give Biden a second term, and hopefully, we'll all cheer if the orange disgrace is in the slammer, too.

Thank you for writing about Ukraine and the atrocities Trump and the republicans have helped Putin achieve in his quest to make Ukraine part of Russia. I am so ashamed of the ignorance in this country and the lack of vision we have shown toward Ukraine. I continue to donate monthly to United24 because I feel helpless that we have allowed so many innocent civilians to die in Ukraine.

The term 'fifth column' used to get tossed about a lot with scant justification. These traitors make it suddenly frighteningly current. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_column At the moment, an invading army of red-necktied fools address tv cameras in front of a courthouse attacking my city's criminal justice structure. They and their kind have already brought the war home.

I have said this before, and I will say it again. The Republican Party is no longer a bona fide political party. it is a cult. It has abrogated all its principles on the altar of Trump.

I can't even call this political. It is criminal, purposeful abandonment of a nation to destruction, and death to a people.

Drumpf not satisfied with just destroying our country...he's out for planet earth. All I want to do is scream and cry!!! Who is to blame?? Who is to blame for everything wrong in our world - only one person, unbelievably that one person is responsible for everything.

Expand full comment

Sadly it is NOT only one person! Trump is the worst of them, but ALL the Retrumplicans is Congress are to blame! Trump would not be able to cause such devastation without the Retrumplicans. If you truly care about our country and its standards, VOTE BLUE on the whole ticket.

Ukraine and l have an inglorious history. Our grandparents fled poverty and religious persecution and no one in my family was willing to discuss this because this was shrouded in secrecy.

It was up to me to find out what happened.

I traveled to Poland to survey the death camps and read Timothy Snyder’s Bloodlands and numerous books on the subject of what happened and why.

Questions much be asked and answered and reliable sources consulted. It not enough to say: My Pop said so, Or before computers it was impossible to draw any inte l

Mr. T.'s cri de coeur hit the mark with me. When Trump ordered Republican foot dragging and I watched the mishegas take hold, all I could think of was WWIII. The dénouement can be nothing else.

Like so many others, I’m totally dismayed by the actions of the Republicans. We have a lot to answer for. Even more frightening, I’ve seen recent comments attributed to Putin that he is willing to consider the use of tactical nuclear weapons in this conflict. I’m so naive that two years ago, I envisioned a 21st century United States coming to the assistance of Zelenskyy in the same way that Roosevelt assisted Churchill. I recall Churchill’s famous statement (that I wanted Zelenskyy to echo): “Give us the tools and we will finish the job.” But I have a different question. Given all of the political difficulties in this country, where are all the NATO allies? I seem to recall some NATO country (I think Denmark or perhaps the Netherlands) giving all of its 155 howitzer ammunition to Ukraine. But I haven’t seen anything similar from the other countries in NATO. Where are they and why do they seem to be sitting on their hands? It may be that a lot is being done in secret. But why, for God’s sake, keep such things under wraps? I think that if NATO were to rise up as a body (and I don’t want to hear that Ukraine is not a member; this war threatens the whole of Europe) even Putin might have second thoughts.

Re: “How much have NATO members spent on Ukraine: Yes, it’s a hefty contribution by the US, but that has to be taken in context. We were able to grow a military-industrial complex and we did it making sinister alliances with Middle East oil countries. For awhile, we had bonus breaks on the price of energy fuels. Following WWII, Europe had to rebuild, putting the US ahead of the game. It’s been a symbiotic relationship. But, after Trump aligned himself with Putin, NATO gathered its wits and is working to up their ante —they are, ultimately, at the frontline facing Russian expansion. Furthermore, they are on the frontline of massive migration events due to global climate change. Europe is in turmoil again.

Now the US faces the fascist threat—and the Libertarian Fascists include the Military-Industrial complex corporations (anyone remember the uproar of Cheney’s connections to Bechtel?) and Big Energy (They even paid Rex Tillerson $5Mil to take a position in Trump’s cabinet). The GREED is astounding. They want it all, literally—they are the Puppet Masters of the Libertarian Fascist organization aka the RNC.

The RNC operates as an organized crime syndicate in the hands of Fascist billionaires AND Russian oligarchs. For decades, the RNC ran a shadow foreign policy in Europe and South America. They paid people like Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Rick Gates to rig elections and prop up Russian-aligned dictators in Eastern Europe (Like Orban and Yanukovych).

The Libertarian fascist economist, James Buchanan personally set up a fascist government for Pinochet in Chile—with input from Charles Koch.

If you look at what they are doing in the Caribbean and Central America (apparently MSM can’t connect the dots there, either) the RNC Gun Trade is inundating those nations, bringing upheaval and violence. We only hear of the occasional kidnapping or yacht hijacking . . . .

How much do we send to Ukraine? When the RNC obstruction is overcome, the supply is not timely and amounts to not enough.

That's a helluva' lot of hardware and doesn't include shipments a country or countries doesn't want publicly known.

Still can't get over all the FO/GOs who kept comparing this war to WW1. Suppose all they know about WW1 and Uk-Ru is the presence of trenches. Would help if they looked at a map to compare the 2lengths of the so-called fronts and dig deep into their noggins to the list of combatants in WW1.

Perhaps they see the rotor blades of a drone to be same-same as a bi-plane and the calvary charges of WW1 same-same as armored vehicles. And a WW1 sniper rifle accurate to 500m as same-same as one that ghosts from >1600M.

Don't recall overhead SATTs and real-time integrated COMM in WW1. Perhaps they have a super-duper clearance no one else ever could attain. Don't recall electronic warfare and its counter measures in WW1 nor radar that can trace ord back to its origin in <a second nor artillery and rocket systems and ord that can strike within a meter of its target.

Most of all WW1 actually had major battles involving armies not divisions or brigades. Perhaps they convinced self Somme and Marne are wines not battles. And no way is WW1 mustard gas same-same as the gas from eating too much green or red cabbage.

Don't know how WW1 flares compare to night vision goggles. And small arms? I can't imagine they see WW1 small arms as same-same as today's.

Realize the only known WABAC Machine belongs to Mr Peabody however am certain he would be more than happy to take those FO/GOs to 1917 France for a few days and nights.

Agreed. Weren't WWI artillery spotters using binoculars while suspended in wicker baskets below fabric balloons filled with flammable hydrogen gas that were tethered by cable and winched up and down.

Bombs were predominantly hand dropped by the pilot in their single-seater biplanes, or their rear seat gunner if they had one, for most of that war as well.

Communication was by telegraph, Morse code, flags, horse and foot runners.

My response: As the saying goes, funny yet true, true, true, true, true, true.

FO/GOs prolly: But, but, but there was a lot of mud in both conflicts.

VC and SC response: As is the case when LAND wars are fought on planet EARTH.

FO/GOs: Address us as AdmiralSir and GeneralSir.

VC+SC: Cer-tainly.
