Got every last one ... makes me in the 10% minority ... sadly.

Me, too. I just don't understand people.

Wishful thinking has been a scourge during the pandemic. I'd love for this to be behind us, but it isn't.

Yes, if only the virus would be even more discriminating than it already is….! How about a 100% fatality rate for unvaccinated trumpsters?

Expand full comment

If that were to happen, they will have brought it upon themselves through willful ignorance. No one else to blame. Avoiding and/or surviving Covid is a function of being smart and following the science, which many Repugnant voters clearly are not and do not do.

I’m good with that

Once again, thank you for your care and consideration for all of us. I just got covid for the first time in September. It was a scary, difficult experience and I’m grateful that I was vaccinated and boosted (except for the latest one). I have respiratory issues and here it is more than a month later and not back to normal. I’m also grateful for the Paxlovid which upon taking it relieved quite a bit of what was very gnarly. As soon as I’m able I plan on getting flu Vax and the new booster. Bless Science, medicine and everyone willing to cooperate with the advancement of knowledge.

Got both of mine, on two consecutive days, many weeks ago. If there was another available I would take it instantly.

Same here. I'll be watching to see what the guidance is on a receiving a second bivalent booster 4-6 months after the first when there's enough data for the FDA/CDC to make a determination. Very thankful for science.

All the vaccinations. Eligible for pneumonia in a month. Masked. Sanitizing. Disgusted with RepubliQan politicians and their Reich Wing Nut Job followers.

Boosters: done. Flu shot: done. One more to get this year...the pneumonia shot. Stay safe, all. And thanks for the PSA, Lucian. You wouldn’t think folks would need the reminder, but they do.

what's the pneumonia shot?

i haven't heard about it.

gonna hit the google search.

Should of read through first. Second the pneumonia shot.

I have had all five Covid shots, plus a flu super-shot for people over 65. So far, so good.

Got the COVID booster in early September and the flu shot a couple of weeks ago. No reaction to either. At 74, I feel GREAT!

Thanks and likewise. Got my 5th for the new variants just two weeks ago, so it should be fully activ now. Easy-peasy and will help us avoid the winter spike just witnessed in Australia.

Got them. Now I am pondering the pneumonia vax.

Expand full comment

If you're of "senior" years, definitely get the pneumonia vax. One warning though; it made my arm hurt and stomach churn overnight on the day of the vax, but it went away fast. More reaction than any of my Covid vaxes, but not terrible.

Expand full comment

Didn’t have a reaction to the pneumonia. The second shingles shot is the only one that’s bothered me. Think I’m covered for everything except the monkey pox now.

Expand full comment

If you are old enough to have had the smallpox vaccine as a child, or were vaccinated by the military, you are probably covered for monkeypox as long as you don't exchange body fluids with someone who has monkeypox.

Thank you for that 😊

Do it if you're over 60. Also get the shingles vaccine as well.

The older you are, the more likely you are to be at risk for all of them:

pneumonia, shingles, Covid and flu.

Don't just ponder. Do it.

Sound advice! Just got my Flu shot. Had already done Shingles and Pneumonia vaccines this year as well. Decided to put off getting the latest COVID booster until after returning from some travel in the EU and UK. BIG MISTAKE. Literally let our (masking) guard down between Amsterdam, Dublin and Edinburgh and COVID was ready to pounce. We're fine but 48 hours of feeling like my head was caught in a vice, fever/chills (shake n bake) and trying to isolate from friends did not enhance our travel experience. Get the vaccines!

I wish you had talked about masking. Politicians don’t because they want to get elected. Concert halls & theaters & airlines etc. - which now politely “recommend,” but don’t mandate masks - want to sell tickets. But as you point out, COVID doesn’t care. And the easiest - and among the most effective - ways to contain the virus is by masking, whether you are vaccinated or not. Everyone I know who has caught COVID has been vaccinated up the wazoo. Please mask!!

Thanks for addressing |this. We’re all boosted and flu shot done. I can’t imagine why anyone would ignore the clarion and not get these inoculations done. Do you really want to have an ignominious end to your life by ignoring to get these done.

On my way to get 5th vaccine and flu shot right now! Thanks for encouraging others.

Such wise, necessary, and timely advice. The Republicans, with their flair for cynicism, seem to be able to read an unwillingness in Americans to face facts better than we can. In my blue-state city, I went to a theatre last week, with nearly every seat filled, and found myself among only a small handful of mask wearers. Had I not been boosted and had my flu shot, I wouldn’t have gone.

I’m finding similar situations. I’m on an airplane right now, N95 mask on, all 3 of us in my row are masked... and from my vantage point only one other masked person; the first class flight attendant.

Expand full comment

I hate those uncomfortable N95s but I wear them all the same! Good luck, have a safe uneventful trip. It’s nice that the other people in your row are masked too.

I scheduled mine this morning, and I couldn't get an appointment before Nov. 15th. I had an appointment for this Thursday but had to postpone, and that was the best I could do.

I've never had covid, and there are several people in my family who haven't, either. For a lot of us, the vaccines really, really work.

Expand full comment

Agree, 100%!! I've had all my Covid shots: two vaccines and three boosters (so far) and a flu shot. My SO has had his pneumonia and shingles shots. I have to go in for my shingles shot next week.

What is puzzling me is why the Repubbies are so careless of elder health...Do they think that only old Dems die of Covid? One would think that they'd be worried that their own supporters would be equally vulnerable (as, of course, they are) and considering how many of the red hats refused to wear masks and get vaccines, and died as a result. Why aren't they concerned that some of the very narrowest percentages in contested districts, which gave them their victories last time around isn't going to happen again--with far different results? Is the "fix" in already for those states?

Expand full comment

There was a study that showed that majority Republican counties had higher COVID rates. In counties with a Democratic majority, there were lower rates, even among Republicans in those counties.

Expand full comment

And, how much do you want to bet that those Repugs also don’t have health insurance?

Expand full comment

Republicans are of the mind that nothing so terrible will ever touch them. They're immune, you know to common sense and intelligence.

Covid isn't quite so discriminating though. Even Donald Trump got his. I bet he even is fully boosted.

Or else they got all their shots and aren't telling anyone. They're hypocrites, too.

Expand full comment

Hadn't you heard? Republicans don't have to stay alive: they can't lose elections. If a MAGAt can profit from persuading people not to get jabbed, that's a win. If only one Republican in a district survives everything they don't get jabbed for and election results are 99,999-1, only voter fraud could explain it. The state legislation will fix things

I'm your age Lucian. My mama dragged me down to the school and offered my arm for the Salk vaccine; eventually 4 shots if i remember correctly. Well, I did the same for my children (dragged them to doctors for shots) and now I see them doing the same for my grandchildren. So yes, I've been jabbed 5 times for Covid. Like someone commented before me, I just don't understand people; their reluctance to be vaccinated befuddles me.
