Donald Trump: 51 percent. 71,893,989
Kamala Harris: 47.5 percent. 67,039,247
All the votes aren’t in, but as of Wednesday afternoon, it looks like Trump will get about as many votes as he did in 2020, while Harris has significantly underperformed Biden’s 81 million figure. We don’t have to go deep into the weeds of the Harris campaign or break down the votes she appears to have lost among young men and Hispanic men or theorize about the reluctance of least some men to vote for woman as president. For whatever reason, Democrats didn’t show up yesterday compared to the last presidential election, one that we won.
Kamala Harris spoke personally to Trump on the phone this afternoon, and she will deliver a concession speech this evening in Washington. It’s what Democrats do, and it’s the way democracy is supposed to work. One candidate wins, the other loses, and we move on.
It is a dark new time we have entered, and the really disappointing thing to realize is that Democrats did it to ourselves by staying home.
As I just commented on D Earls Sub:
I am broken-hearted - not broken. I am embarrassed, ashamed, angry, horrified and nauseous that that my fellow citizens agreed that this monster was entitled and fit to lead our great nation. We had three times the voter turnout yesterday at my precinct than ever before, but only the same 10% out of 440 voted blue. The comments from some MAGAts were ignorant and racist, but that's the norm that has been unleashed over the last decade. We are, sadly, a propagandized nation; the result of decades of repub cuts to and reformation of public education. And the trend continues in TN with the goal being voucher $$ for private and religious schools being sucked from public education. Keep 'em dumb-downed and indoctrinated and they'll continue to vote red.
Surely the only thing that explains this Trump victory is that the American public in the main will not vote for a woman. I see no other unifying explanation.
