Yes, hard as it is to believe, this kid was born 74 years ago in Fukuoka, Japan, to a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry, and a former Red Cross girl. They had met at Immaculata High School in Leavenworth, Kansas, a few years before, when dad was a senior and a first-string fullback on the football team, and mom was a starry-eyed freshman watching him play from the stands.
My mom was in Reno getting a residency to get a divorce. My dad was there involved with a family business that went under.
He was a WWII vet who already had a 4 year degree, a rarity in those days. One of his former commanders suggested he look into returning to the service.
They got married, assigned to Ft. Ord, I was born in Monterey 15 July 1947.
