Sanity is so sweet. My nervous system is not quite ready for it. I keep looking up for the looming other shoe. Oh, yes, he is gone, gone where the goblins go...below, below below, ding dong.
The country is slowly righting itself through sensible leadership even though a large swath of the population is still resisting any semblance of sanity and kicking and screaming every rational step along the way.
Itβs coming to a place where we can all think about living and staying. I think a lot of us had 1 + 3/4 feet out the door...across the closest border.
I was very disappointed that Biden did not say one word about the assault weapons ban, surprising since he was in favor of it back in the day. I hope this doesn't mean he's abandoned it, because it worked (too well for the arms manufacturers). I wish he could put it out in an EO, but I'm sure the NRA has bought enough politicians to make sure it never happens again.
Much like 10,000 Red Hats at the bottom of the sea, this is a promising beginning.
I am of the opinion, tho, that limitations on retail purchases (improved background checks and the like) are, as the project management folks say, too far downstream*. The proliferation of firearms has to be constrained at the manufacture and distribution stage, before it even gets to the retail stage. Another good start would be the reinstatement of the assault weapons prohibition.
*Retail-level restrictions also have the flaw of requiring some considerable bureaucracy to administer, deal with appeals, false positives, and more critically, false negatives. Much less so at the βupstreamβ stages. π€ππ
I note that in the 10 years of the Clinton-era assault weapons ban, the number of mass killings decreased dramatically; once it expired during Bush2, the increase was just as dramatic. π€ππ
I vacillate between being comforted by President Biden's leadership, and disturbed by racist vitriol spewing from the Republicans in the guise of serving the American public. I so hope their every vile endeavor fails, that reasonable Democrats and Republicans will prevail.

hope this action includes some regulating of printable guns, which i think pose an equal if not greater threat.

I am on a 30 day for the following. I always take posters who show an animal for their picture to task.
I got 30 days last week for this:
Show your face, tough guy, maybe someone will take you seriously.
Violated FB's rule against bullying...what nonsense!
