We have the same ugliness happening in the red state of Ohio. We have similar people attempting to get on our school board here in Delaware, Ohio. Our two children are teachers here and we shudder to think the Orban of Hungary philosophy is white Christian nationalism is front and center in our nation.

Being the obnoxious person I am (my wife will agree with that) when the one candidate appeared at the door touting school prayer, I asked if he believed in all that is said in the Bible both Old and New Testament. He said of course, the Ten Commandments also should be displayed in the classroom. So I said would he also display Exodus 21:7? “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are." or Deutoronomy 21: 20-21? "And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice...And all the men of the city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

The man left.

Absolutely agree. The problem with all this Bible literalism -- and without even addressing the issue of exactly which words of God are being obeyed, the various English translations, the Greek koine New Testament, the Latin Vulgate, Hebrew texts? Gnostic scrolls? Apocrypha? -- is how these "fundamentalists" cherry-pick the parts they like and ignore the rest. And they have no shame about this doublethink.

"Hebrew" For some reason, when I try to edit a typo or something these last few days, I get a bunch of glitches and non-functions when I attempt to "Save" a change. Sometimes it looks as if I've wiped the original comment.

[English] White-washing and scrub-a-dub-dubbing of the books of the bible is amusing to behold. Inevitably those doing so miss other passages and verses (the whack a mole effect) leaving them trying to square a circle. Have gifted a set of hi-liters to more than one bible thumper.

E.g. death angel, angel of death, the destroyer, the angel of, all reference the same entity and mass death of..."biblical proportions" includes aborting the so-called unborn

An affidavit of service, also obtained by The Daily Beast, indicated that Jayson Boebert appeared to be caught off guard by the court proceedings. He chased away a process server with an expletive-laden tirade and let his dogs loose when he was served with the divorce papers, the affidavit said."

MY literal interpretation of the Bible would definitely cause me to believe in dragons and unicorns, among other creatures noted in certain translations! But not airplanes or motorcars...

well done. I'm one of those devils who CAN'T quote much scripture, but I got rid of the hateful JWs who used to bug me by making disgusting, unserious sexual suggestions. and they haven't been around for DECADES.

Yes!!! The instant a person shows more knowledge of what the Bible actually says--as opposed to the cherry-picked random verses that the evangelical "Christian" have memorized but not understood--they turn tail and run. Because they don't truly embrace Christianity in its totality nor do they practice it in it's totality.

When my boys were young, we rescued a young orange tabby. Turned out, she was pregnant. Because of the mother’s genetic make-up, all the kittens were female. After the kittens were born, I could pick out their daddies -- 3 by my count -- by color and markings. Three of those kittens came with us when I moved the family back to Georgia. They were grown by then. The last of them died at age 19. I’m a one cat household for the first time in 30 years.

Long ago when our cat, whose name might have been Hunter brought a distressed bird into the laundry room....Or when we discovered Timmy who was crying in the communal milk machine in the veteran's coop where we lived...or Tiger, the calico giving birth in our cousins' attic...

Up to the present when my daughter had a fit because I refused to sleep over her house to keep Bunny (her long-haired, black cat recently transported from LA ), company. Fortunately - I am forgiven because she has a trusted neighbor who will empty the litter box and Harry and I will just visit this weekend.

Meanwhile, back at the big house in Queens, Fella will be sitting at the window waiting for the return of his keeper and Missy will be making herself scarce for the long week, and occasionally checking in to see who's filling the dish. Yeah, there's a wedding in Oregon and the cousins are packing!

Did I forget to mention that the cat duo in Toronto have the usual summer-time visitors in the back yard despite a tightening of regulations about keeping chickens from local farms? Done! See?

It's not so bad in Glocco Morra!! Look it up if you don't believe me.

I always like reading your political commentary, and I always like your posts where I learn something. But I am so enjoying the cat photos. We haven’t had a cat , for a few different reasons since we lost our little Cassie many years ago. I’m loving the kittens!

I had a pair of young guys show up at my door last week, they were maybe 20 and dressed like it was 1955, which I remember, I was on the phone and didn't really feel like messing with them, so I gruffly asked them what they wanted, they replied that they wanted to talk about Jesus, I basically told them that I didn't need any of their help, their confused, startled response was almost comical, "what's your name?", I gave them my first name as I shut the door, the name part was probably a mistake not the door shutting. They could have been mormons from my experience or maybe ultra-conservative evangelicals, either way they were a most unwelcome intrusion into my day. Anyone that looks like they got off the bus in 1955 and didn't notice that things have changed, I find to be very suspect.

Over time I managed to acquire 2 copies of the Book of Mormon. So when the young Mormons paid their annual visit I asked them to wait a second. I got one of the books and handed it to them. I told them I didn’t need 2 copies.

Such little sweethearts! They look so happy! As for the school board elections, I will be sending positive energy your way. We had two right-wing candidates in our last school board election who lost by a significant amount. They advertised heavily but were defeated by the level-headed people of our community. One of the candidates spread news of a lawsuit, meant to embarrass the current board, that was decided in the days before the election. But it did not have the affect she hoped for. Best of luck with the election and the babies!

Maybe the only silver lining with these right-wingnuts is that they motivate us to get out the vote for down-ballot elections. I've got my fingers crossed that the right-wingnuts have greatly underestimated both our intelligence and our motivation.

I love the sight of the itty-bitty kitties looking all for the world to be adorable, unlike the subject of the next paragraph.

Why does it not surprise me in the least that Trump and Giuliani were trying to sell pardons? Why does it not shock the living daylights out of me that the man who wants to be in the office again is a sexual predator like his buddy, who is also a sexual predator?

They run in packs, like wolves, but they have no hunting in mind but women and money, usually not in that order, but close enough.

It turns my stomach that so many Americans supported him, and still to this day support that slimy piece of garbage that lives in Palm Beach-only the large seaweed invasion smells worse.

And he wants to be in office again?

NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!

Thankfully I think there are more and more people being repulsed by this than last election so we might have a shot at reclaiming our country.

But it's up to all of us.

You're getting in your practice runs, now, Lucian and Tracy-so you'll be primed for the main event next year.

I hope you're successful at getting sanity back into the school board because there's too many of them that are being hijacked by Christian Fundamentalists who think they own their children.
