You raise my blood pressure, Lucian, but that's OK. We all should be outraged at what is going on in the name of law and order. Two great posts in one day --impressive. I've yet to finish the morning Sudoku.
Police as soldiers? Or, is it solders now police? Either way it's not okay. We all know this and yet we have allowed it to happen by our own silence. Now, we're stuck with robots that seem like metal dogs, track vehicles that are supposed to be 'cute' and heavily armed police who look like someone needs to shout, "Hook up and bail out!" Give me a break. One last thing and my opinion only: The Capitol riot/slash/attack/slash/insurrection was akin to Pearl Harbor in as much as there was plenty of warning, but somebody had a tee time. When the first "Zeros" appeared over the Capitol Mall in the form of CSA flags and fucknuts with painted faces and horns, nobody took it seriously until somebody yelled, "This is not a drill!" and by that time it was all too late. Luckily they didn't break through and kidnap Pelosi or Pence. Imagine if they had hanged Pence on that gallows they built and held Pelosi hostage. What a shit storm that would have been.
Absolutely right-and they're told they're right all the time, being so dangerous looking and over-weaponized. It's like we're paying them to keep us behind the walls of our houses, because we are the enemy. But especially for black people who dare to walk the streets of this country or drive their cars while black. No wonder so many people out of the US are stunned by our body count-because we're in an undeclared war.
I hear what you're saying about the ever-growing militarization of the police. Clearly it's a huge problem and has been for decades. However, the Capitol Insurgency is the one case in recent memory where they did need force but didn't have nearly enough. I'm not sure how to thread this needle.
Go to You Tube and watch the 1st Amendment Auditors...then look up police salaries where you live...you will not be happy. Salary and overtime makes policing a 6 figure job.
You wrote something that really chaps me and makes absolutely NO sense in a civilized world. I would add that not only is it nonsensical to regard these minor offenses (and sometimes just mistakes) as MAJOR CRIMES, but it is ridiculous that they must be handled by TEAMS of armed (and dangerous) thugs in uniform, with guns at the ready, yelling threats and expletives and trying to scare the wits out of their prey: "We have police officers who stop citizens for major crimes like having an expired license plate, or walking down the middle of the street and being suspected of stealing a box of cigarillos, or using a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for some candy and a soft drink at a convenience store, who then proceed to kill these citizens they have stopped for committing those major offenses against law and order."

I cannot think of a worse idea than militarizing the Capitol police. 🤔😉😊
This will finally pass when the police gun down a few demonstrators and public revulsion rises up. You describe the trend quite well.

Omg...and just in: a 13-year-old shot in Chicago...and a gun appears although video shows his hands empty while running. I want to be an Ex-Pat...
Well said, Lucian.

Dear God. It is all so sick. So horrific. And most people don’t see it because they won’t see it.
Please tell me what we can do. I have to do something.

I went to sleep talking about the shooting in Chicago and San Antonio and woke up to news of the shooting in Indiana. I don’t even want to go out.
