So do we all. That's why it's so difficult to see what's happening to it! I'm glad you keep us informed with some suggestions on how to fight. Trump loves dictators. I saw one of his idols, Bolsonaro, dictator of Brazil, speak against the press in a documentary on dangers to journalists. He reminds me of Trump and vice versa. Bolsonaro's name calling in translation was pure Trumpian syntax of evil.
I was on a cruise ship in early 2020 when we entered the Amazon, and, learned that Bolsonaro and Trump were equally dangerous morons who ignored COVID-19!
And I was born in Suffolk County, New York, on the eastern end of Long Island. My life has taken me to forty of our fifty states. My love for our country has never been stronger. We Americans are unique in this world because we are united around the idea that we can knowingly and intentionally come together to build 'a more perfect union' centered around or Constitution and the promise of liberty and justice for all of us. Our forebears came here because of that promise, and in return, they promised to be good citizens, and to prove themselves worthy of the privilege of being an American. We can never be foreigners in our own country, despised and disinherited of our citizenship in America because of who we are or where we came from. The 'blood and soil' crowd has gotten it all wrong, and we need to remind them that each generation born here has a right to be here, because our Constitution says so. That's non-negotiable.
Glad you have moved back to real America. I spent many summers as a happy hippie, in Greeley Corners Pa, not to far away , home of Hirace Greeley, the newspaper giant. Check it out.
PS I am of your age and led a parallel life in Manhattan from 66 to 90.
I have a buddy with a garage, passed on to him from his dad. Just a cinderblock building with a high ceiling (for the lift), big enough for 4 vehicles (one with his '33 Highboy roadster), with glass block windows. My buddy keeps it immaculate, you could eat off the floor, truly vintage signs, classic car parts and race banners hang from the walls.
In the back there is an old couch, fridge and TV along with pictures from decades past. In the 40's-50's his Dad owned a sprint car and Christmas parties at the garage had the old man holding court on the couch talking about getting to races for the weekend, cruising the Pennsylvania turnpike when it was brand spankin' knew.

I was born in Jersey City, but NEVER was I a Jersey Girl.
Sprint cars on a short track. The heart and soul of auto racing. I’m sure you had a great time.
