I have suggested this before but I continue to believe what the Ds and what is left of the responsible journalistic establishment must do is issue quarterly business reviews and status reports showing how he and the MAGA agenda are failures not just on his hyperbolic promises but real progress for the people on economic promises
He loves making promises. Let the people know over and over time what a BS artist he is.
Many do not but win some back on the margins and keep reminding the moderates of what they are losing when his tariffs and craziness on foreign policy make us a pariah.
Your idea works nicely with the proposal for a shadow cabinet. Is anyone with the credibility and expertise to have an impact following up on that strategy?
Mark Greene, a Nader Raider who went on to an NYC political career for a few years, put together a shadow cabinet during a Bush administration. Members had sufficient familiarity and stature, but the concept didn't catch on. It may need a parliamentary form of government to gel?
I used to Subscribe to a Substack called, "What Did Joe Biden Do Today?" It would summarize what Biden, Harris and key administration figures did officially that day. Today it turned into "What Did Donald Trump Do Today?" Here is what it told me. It might interest you.
linda, after reading about a third of it I rummaged through my closet to find my hand gun. Fortunately, I did not find it.
I will not be returning to this Substack as I value my mental health too much to subject myself to what amounts to a regurgitation of what a man who is a combination of a megalomaniacal, narcissistid sociopathic liar says he is doing when most of it are, yes, the ravings of a mad man baying at the moon to hear himself talk.
Robert Bell, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I too was dismayed to find what I was reading was essentially an unfiltered regurgitation of the words and inglorious propositions of a hollow old man clearly not of sound mind. The litany of insanity, hubris, braggadocio, posturing, stupidity, and arrogance, served no other purpose than highlight how some folks out there have no clue about what has happened in this country to allow such an unqualified criminally inclined grifter and con artist to run for public office, let alone hold one. It is a dark stain on the history of this great nation and one that is going to have repercussions for the entire globe. It certainly dooms the contributor of this reprehensible post to any respect I may have been inclined to give her after seeing it pop up on Lucian’s Substack.
This is why having a gun around, or access to alcohol is becoming something of a real personal hazard for the likes of this old Vet for the foreseeable future.
Yes, I promptly “ unsubscribed” to the Substack “What did Donald Trump do today”. I have zero interest in anything about the man other than the fact that he taking a wrecking ball to my country.
Alas, I don’t agree it will be “a very dull long slog.” I think it will be a fraught, dangerous, and divisive four years - with him or without him. Just pray that the pretty boy drunk does not become head of DOD, because if that happens the streets will be flooded with soldiers whenever Trump thinks people aren’t doing his will. I cannot help, at this time, thinking of the Penn professor who said Donald Trump was the dumbest student he ever had.
PS. I don't find this very dull. An executive order just pardoned all the Jan. 6 people- including the violent ones. Think they wouldn't do it again if asked?
Biden's inauguration was snubbed by Trump, but the Biden's were not about to stoop so low as to do the same, and yet, Trump instead of being appreciative insults them and other Democrats by bad mouthing their entire administration's four year record. How uncouth is that? But can we expect even a hint of decency from this man.
Then there's 200 executive orders planned for day one? Is he the president of a democratic government or a supreme ruler? Why do we need a Congress or a Supreme Court? Trump has now been crowned king.
Thank you GOP & all those who voted for Trump, you just threw our democratic system of almost 250 years in the trash!
Wait until his loyal followers realize they've lost their Medicaid, food stamps, and the cost of being alive in America is too much for them. Wait until they realize he doesn't give a fuck about them. That day will come.
Yes, for sure, not to mention relatives of deported individuals who will be evicted because the breadwinner of the family has suddenly disappeared much in the same way as what happened in Nazi Germany. Even pending immigrants at the border right now that had appointments already approved have had them cancelled. Meantime Trump is having a good old time celebrating, eating and dancing while setting in motion much human misery and suffering. And to top off his day setting free violent criminals who inflicted untold suffering on the Capitol police officers. some of whom have never recovered emotionally from that terrible day. They did it because he lied to them that the election had been stolen and they needed to fight like hell to get their country back. If there is a heavenly realm above as well as a hellish realm I'll give you one guess as to where he is headed someday. Not as punishment by an outside entity but self inflicted by his hateful vengeful mind, not to mention his lack of compassion and empathy.
“ Meantime Trump is having a good old time celebrating, eating and dancing while setting in motion much human misery and suffering.” It’s what he does best! It’s all he really knows how to do. He is King of Chaos. The Prince of Darkness and Bitch of Bedminster…
I agree Paty, plenty of blame to go around - those who didn't vote and those who were conned by Trump, and those who have a scant understanding of politics and never even watch or listen to news programs.
They believe every single thing that Trump said in his rallies even though most of the facts he quoted were distortions of fact or outright lies.
It seems men and women of honor and good character are no longer valued by Republicans. Honesty and integrity are viewed with suspicion. to They prefer to live in an illusion created by charltons. ,
Musk gave the Nazi salute, twice. Trump essentially called himself a messiah. Megalomania strikes - monsters from the id. How the hell do we fight this madness? People are falling in line the way Germans did after Hitler came to power.
the ventriloquists, coordinated with the puppet masters, are controlling his every move. we just have to see the actual consequences--since he and his ilk RELY on memory loss. Their oxygen is the rush of the moment—not the sustained hard work of actually making something happen.
If only he would vanish down the memory hole, we will need to put up with his nonsense. And nonsense it most certainly is, both from him and his whole cadre of billionaire morons It’s going to be absolutely absurd. We’re dealing with someone who is not just delusional, not just cognitively in decline, but just feels that lying is his right.
History will not treat his legacy well. Unfortunately we all have to live long enough to see that. And to all his suck up billionaire buddies, I know I for one am extracting myself from anything they’re involved in - it doesn’t matter who it is. It doesn’t matter what industry they’re in. Whatever they’re selling, I don’t need and the more people who take that approach the sooner they’ll start to feel it, assuming they don’t just steal it out right right from under our nose while they fill the swamp back up in the government What does matter is that our democracy survives this onslaught of hatred and greed.
Thanks, Lucian, for watching --- so that I could do laundry and read a book, not about politics. One (partial?) explanation for the McKinley fascination is to add an ingredient to the stew of great businessman/high tariffs/no income tax/no unions: both men were shot, but T***p lived. That makes T***p the "winner," McKinley the (ultimate) "loser," like the dead in the American military cemetary in France that T***p grudgingly visited.
It (he) didn't go, rain, but then was shamed into it. When it did show up, I think still raining or at least misty, it said out loud to its chief of staff, retired military, that it couldn't understand why those dead chose to put themselves in mortal peril: what was in it for them?
If he had thought about it, maybe calling the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of the Americas would be less offensive, but that may require Trump realizing the continent to our south is an America as well.
Lucian, glad your recovery has progressed, and let loose your sharp keyboard. I agree that it’s going to be a long, horrible slog, but I don’t agree that it will be dull. As soon as he gets called out on not fulfilling his promises he will resort to his tried and true tactic of flooding the zone with outrageous bullshit as a distraction. The only difference with his normal flood of nonsense will be the intensity, and the unbelievability. Whatever goes wrong will be Biden’s and the Dems fault. He, the second Messiah, can do no wrong. We are going to be subjected to a relentless pandering to the right wing, and attacks on minorities. He will make up nonexistent problems that he will ‘solve’ and take credit for. It’s going to be 24/7 showbiz, but some of the damage is going to be real and long lasting, and directly affect many people lower on the socio-economic food chain, especially his cult.
Thank you Lucian for watching. And reporting. I spent the day reading Henry V, England’s Greatest Warrior King. One can get to all those books you wanted to read but couldn’t take your eyes off the News. As long as Russia and Putin pander to him, nothing much will happen. Except Ukraine may die, Taiwan may be blockaded and starved. And Iran will rush to develop The Bomb. What could go wrong and make news. We may learn to really miss the “old man”the former President. And take back all those mean things we said. God Bless Joe. History will look kindly on him, forgive him his faults and declare him “Near Great”. Now to the FUTURE: The Great Battle is for the SUCCESSION. Vance? Naw. Little Marco? MAGA can’t stand him. Don Jr.? Nobody but Nobody can stand him. On the Democrats’ bench we have all those great Governors, a few cool Senators and DRUM ROLL: Alexandra Ocasio Cortez. Look on the bright side. That’s going to be a fun primary in 2028. It’s the one we should have had in 2024 JOE!
I have suggested this before but I continue to believe what the Ds and what is left of the responsible journalistic establishment must do is issue quarterly business reviews and status reports showing how he and the MAGA agenda are failures not just on his hyperbolic promises but real progress for the people on economic promises

people don't seem to care. They've all sipped a toxic kool-aid.....
Many do not but win some back on the margins and keep reminding the moderates of what they are losing when his tariffs and craziness on foreign policy make us a pariah.
I'm afraid they are hooked up to an IV!
Yep, zombies

Pardons guaranteed
Why else free them? They're no use to him while locked up.

So well put, Joseph, you perfectly captured the essence of who this man is.
It will; and they’ll blame you and me, not him.
Stay ready.
Yep!
And thank you to the millions of American's who couldn't be bothered to be informed and get off their couches to vote!! I am so angry right now!!

As you say, not a chance. He wouldn't know what a kind thought was if it entered his head - which would never happen anyway.
He has inaugurated the Age of Hate

But who will write the history? May want to re-read Orwell’s 1984.
But will they print it.

Are there any movements to boycott certain businesses, red states, etc.?

I think this will be a grand time to paint the insides of all our closets and the laundry room.

Notice the picture of Trump taking the Oath of Office. His hand is Not on the Bible. Wonder what his evangelical Christian followers think of that?
If he put his hand on it, it would burst into flame. Seriously, his oath of office means absolutely nothing.
He had his fingers crossed
