Fate moves in mysterious ways. The GOP kept Garland off the Supreme Court, so now they have to deal with that same phenomenally smart Jewish lawyer heading the DOJ, instead of being a Ginsberg replacement, minority vote on the Court! HA!!!

Garland may prove the fact that he was saved for a bigger role, and we can thank Mitch McConnell for the Right Wing fuck up they deserve...bigly!

What I'm worried most about is the SC and any ruling on the law from any state-Mississippi or Texas-the makeup of the court right now is so tilted towards the religious right wing nuts that it's very, very possible that we'll lose the case and the Texas legislature will be shooting off their guns in the state house when we do.

It's a bad sign when even the Chief Justice voting on the left hand side of the court does not tilt it towards the center. Very, very bad omens there. I'm frankly very worried for the younger women who will be affected by this.

First it's abortion, next it'll be birth control. Don't even dare to laugh because these people are powered by their fanaticism and hypocrisy. It's not beyond their reach. It was only 48 years ago the ruling was issued. I can see in my lifetime women being pushed back into the cellar.

The DOJ is doing the best they can-but 'whack-a-mole' is not the way to keep Roe alive. Only a SC final ruling will do that and I'm not too convinced it will happen.

But great analysis on the issue. I just wish it hadn't come to this.

Thank you for the clear analysis of the letter of the law. I still don't trust Leonard Leo's SCOTUS puppets, though. How long does it take to enlarge The Court?

I have to wonder who the idiots were that wrote the unconstitutional law Abbott signed. Surely they weren't graduates of UT? Supposedly that's a pretty good law school. Whoever they are, I guess their own hubris made them believe they could outsmart the DOJ. Or is this is just one more of the boilerplate "laws" coming from the conservative think tank?

This is not about the constitution or the rule of law. It's political theatre. Governor Abbott does not care about the Supreme Court. He signed this law to smack the libs and provoke women. Abbott wants a judge to issue a stay so he can scream Murder! He wants the Supreme Court to knock down the law so all Republicans can curse the baby murderers in Liberal controlled Washington. Republicans want to get a one seat majority in the Senate so they can erase President Biden as Mitch McConnell did to President Obama. The republicans pass poison laws knowing they will get shot down. They play angry voters, wave the bloody shirt. Merick Garland can file his suits and preachers and politicians all over the south will brand him, "Obamas bitch" In 1957 Arkansas Governor Faubus put on a show and it helped the Dixiecrats. In 1963 George Wallace put on a show and it got him re-elected. The Republicans know that misogyny helps them and they know that the Supreme Court won't out law abortion months before a critical mid term election.

Here’s what I wrote (by copying from researched text) on 9/1/2021 on FB:

In January 1973, the Supreme Court(Federal) issued a 7-2 decision ruling that the Due Process Clauseof the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides a ‘right to privacy’ that protects a pregnant woman’s rights to choose whether or not to have an abortion.

My question is…How can any state go against Roe V. Wade AS IT IS FEDERAL LAW!

As I recall, Texas abuts Mexico along most of its southern border, and Mexico's Supreme Court just allowed abortion in that country. Already many Americans are getting prescriptions filled and medical procedures in Mexico, so I suspect a new growth industry in that fine country. Much like all the brightly lighted liquor stores at the county lines in Georgia that abut dry counties.

Beating a dead horse…but the Repugs thrive on the publicity & Spin. Abortion rights have always been a red herring to rile constituents. They don’t give a damn for the women or the fetuses—not in reality. Abbott already “won” this round, given the publicity. And didn’t you just love Abbott’s response to “…what about rape victims?” He declared THERE WOULD BE NO MORE RAPE IN THE GREAT STATE OF TEXAS. The law will be enforced…” What a load of crap.

On another subject, did passengers really bring down the terrorists over Shanksville, PA? My sister (a Pentagon contractor at the time) said our fighter hers brought that jet down. Will we ever know?

The “south” rising again through fundamentalist christians’ (small c purposeful) cruelty toward humanity in Desantistan and Abbotistan is far more frightening than what we may face from Any of the stans to the east! I will head up Garland’s “14” Cheerleading squad and sell beer and pretzels at the game!

I posted the following on 9/1/21 which in essence falls in line with what Lucian had written, so well I might add!

Well, I can’t copy and paste or grab what I said on 9/1 about 1973 right to privacy from my photos! I’ll have to copy it by hand and type it in here later!!!

I am learning so much from these Newsletters! Not just content, but how to write it. It’s Composition I,II, III & Advanced all in one!

BOOM indeed. I'd forgotten about the federal-employees-who-are-stuck-in-Texas angle. I think I've got to read this sucker.

Well written Lucian. Let's celebrate this victory for a little while before we demoralize ourselves with theorizing about how Republicans can deep-six it. A win is a win. We earned it.

Please consider writing about litigation against Governors Abbott and DeSantis and the like for their actions that kill people. The media is concerned about whether Biden’s recent decisions on vaccine requirements are legal, rather than state policies that harm their citizens.
