Boy, Lucian, you hit the nail on the head. I have been upset with the mainstream media for a long

time regarding their coverage of tRump . Deplorable. And to think that an old timer with all this

experience, like Leslie Stahl, can't handle someone like MTG ! Pathetic!

I boycotted watching that segment on 60 Minutes last night. Why? Because I will not listen to a big mouth neo-Nazi, white supremacist, seditionist, and habitual liar, take space in my head. I blasted CBS for allowing Stahl’s report to air on Twitter because I felt they wanted attention and bigger ratings. Guess what? Their rating was like 32% which means lots like me didn’t watch. I also told CBS they slapped every Jew and black person in the face. I am the daughter of Holocaust victims.

I turned it off the moment I saw it was featured. Wasted some time playing 3 minute blitz chess at the playchess dot com website, it's free free free! to play in the Cafe, and you get opponents from all over the world (identified by tiny national flag icons) and even outer space. Or it is possible, might have been ground crew for the ISS.

Seriously, I kid you not, twice I played very interesting games against a player who turned out to be on the International Space Station! That was years ago, though, not sure if anyone up there bothers to log on and play chess for a relaxed 1/2 or whatever anymore.

HA! Well aren’t you a star!!🤩 That’s some good diversion right there.

Highest OFFICIAL chess rating I ever had was 2009, in fall of 1970, just as I started at

Macalester. But our high school team (Des Moines Roosevelt - enrollment was like

2300 then) traveled twice to the fabled Hotel McAlpin near 34th & Broadway, to play

in the National H.S. Chess Championships. That hotel was the largest in the world when built, we were impressed as hell! Tournament was in this massive ballroom, must have been 300-400 individual entrants from all over, as far as Chicago, California, etc.

Got there Thursday afternoon, tournament Fri-Sat-Sunday, teams from across the country (Lane Tech, you recognize that school, correct? Bronx Science, the usual high schools from NYC area etc.)

4 players on a team (VERY few girls but they were there, just not encouraged and sometimes actively discriminated against, cf. Queen's Gambit w/ Anja Taylor-Joy) , I was second board in the April, 1970 event. The first board ended up at Harvard and then with a PhD in computer science at UCAL-Berkeley. Go figure. Our third board player (retired as a Dr. in Boston area recently) blundered in an endgame --- or, Holy Guacamole, we tie for first!!!!!!????? A team from Iowa?

We understood, didn't give him too bad a time, it was a VERY tricky endgame. We managed to finish tied for 3rd-4th that second time, thought we were pretty cool.

Great memories of New York, for some reason we went to Luchows to eat, can't recall exactly why, maybe just spur of the moment. I bought a Rider-Waite Tarot card deck somewhere near Times Square. Various nonsense like that. I still consider Tarot as absolutely nothing like a "fortune telling device" (COME ON!) --- but instantiates a sophisticated system of human psychology, might provoke some deep self-reflection in any event.

I did also draw with Larry "The Other" Evans, the inside chess joke being that Grandmaster Larry Evans was a second, that is, an erstwhile sparring partner to the

brilliant but deeply flawed & self-tormented genius Bobby Fischer, while the kid I drew with was, well, a strong player with expert rating with same name.

OK I have had too much coffee, but thanks for provoking these recollections, I tend to live in the current moment looking forward, but these were good memories for us, for sure! Most of the team still stays in contact online via emails ... and Harvard-UCAL Berkeley grad's wife practiced law, she was extremely helpful to me (psychologically) years later, over the phone, while I was loving/hating law school, so there's that, too.

Amazing what trains of thought can roar out of the station, huh!

The news always does this. They carry the most sensationalized stuff because it boosts ratings, and then revenue. Nothing new here.

But the real story is short. The traitor is a criminal, he's heading to court (in a town that hates him, and with good cause), and then he goes home to await a trial. In the meantime, more noise (potentially criminal-he just can't close his big mouth).

This will repeat itself...there are more crimes to prosecute.

In 2024, the assholes like MTGangrene need to be voted out. Period. End of noise.

I continue to be pleased that you do this work and carry my proxy. At the same time, I worry that this work comes at a price. I hope your new pet soothes you, and that you take walks, and breathe good air, and appreciate clear skies, and are renewed, because you can't be replaced.

Right on, Lucian!!! I don’t watch television - my brain is already mushy enough - and have to wonder why “60 Minutes” would do an interview with that brainless embarrassment. She’s an attention black hole, and like *Rump she knows how to get it.

*Rump, for his part, is portraying himself as presidential with a 10-car caravan staged like the real presidential one, with his private plane suggesting Air Force One, and threatening to speechify from Mar-a-Lardo as if it’s the White House. And the media is eating it up like an ice cream sundae. I’ve been fantasizing that the judge tomorrow will impose a gag order on him, and require him to stay in New York. Well, we all have fantasies. You’re absolutely right, Lucian, the suits are repeating 2016, and *Rump is getting all the free media anyone else would die for. Capitalist greed is doing all the prep work for the seditionists, just as Marx said capitalist greed would sell the rope to hang all the capitalists. And when the fascists take over, the media, with crocodile tears flowing, will say, “How could this ever have happened?” I am disgusted beyond description.

When the fascists take over, Fox News, Newsmax and OAN will be the only news channels available.

I didn't watch liddle Marjie last night. I figured the stomach acid in vomit could damage the TV flat screen. Thanks for taking one for the team.

The ONLY consolation for the free publicity and fundraising I can think off (and it's pretty weak) is that the more sucker money he stuffs in his pocketses the less there is for the rest of the Republithugs to spend on things that might benefit them more. He certainly won't be sharing

I am disappointed and angry that Leslie Stahl and "60 Minutes"interviewed the traitorous Margery Taylor Greene. I am going to quote what I read earlier today from Mary Trump's blog, "The Weaponization of Hypocrisy", concerning her views on this."It's bad enough-it's really bad-that our system allows for continued employment of seditionists like Greene but when we need the media to be clear-eyed about the dangers facing our country, they are failing us."I can see that this Trump indictment process is going to be a hugely covered media circus. I, for one, will be switching channels or turning the damn tv off when this bs comes on.

Thank you, Lucian. Where was Ms Stahl's cross examination? What democrats in any leadership position or access to leaders have been charged with sex crimes? If you cannot name one, then all you have is suspicion? As I recall, this same branch of the Republican Stupidity Club claimed that General George Marshall was a tool of the communist conspiracy. A suspicion is not proof of anything except maybe paranoia. Keep nailing them, Lucian.

Why don’t democrats fight back? In 2004 John Kerry took the high road and got switboated by a lie. Frustrating. Need to swarm liars with overwhelming facts and call out the liars consistently

When I last watched Lesley Stahl she was in the first half of her life so far. She'd patiently let interviewees spin till they'd bound themselves immobile. Then she'd ask again as though the hot air hadn't even been exhaled. She was relentless. A jackhammer. Nobody was better. I'm so sorry to read she didn't quit when she should have.

Expand full comment

to be fair, I think she might have had a similar strategy to those interviews a long time ago. she was probably assuming that the interviewee would cling to some semblance of "civilized discourse." extremely naive.

but allowing this, she also has a staff, right?

The media is why these morons get away with so much. Act like/ be a traitorous fūkstik spewing utterly false venom and the media won’t call you on it, they’ll publish it, thereby giving you a national/international platform.

Leslie Stahl is 81 years old. She is a polite old lady - no match for a rabid, irrational wolverine. Any reputation-traction she may have with viewers is impacted negatively by her cognitive decline. She should have retired 20 years ago. All media love trump as he generates billions for networks. Big Pharma can sell a lot of drugs to Americans with tens of millions of eyes glued to screens as viewers soak up more and more angel/demon trump. He is loved by everyone, including you. One either loves him outright or loves to loathe him but it's a D.O.S.E. -brain bath for one and all. D (dopamine) O (oxytocin) S (serotonin) E (epinephrine)-the feel good neurochemicals. All Americans wallow in trump. trump has become a godhead. He is bigger than politics. He is our bush-league antichrist (pun noted). He is the essence of the USA and our Cannibal Capitalist nation.

Expand full comment

You’re right about the brain bath. It’s why I try to read only boring legal detail stories about Trump. Plus whatever Lucian writes.

Expand full comment

I'll be 81 in five years, pal. I will eagerly await your calling me a polite old man. The failure of her interview didn't have to do with age, but rather attitude. She was doing this kind of "whatever" crap when she was in her 50's.

Expand full comment

Gotta ask why the powers that be sent a lightweight to interview a rabid trumper nutjob. Republican extemists are good for the media business. The age / cognitive decline factor is different for everyone. Alzheimers and other cognition-wrecking diseases can set in at any age or not set in at all.

I wasn't aware there was a scheduled interview with Marjorie Three Names, but I wouldn't have watched if I had known. I am deeply disappointed, and fed up, with all the 'news' outlets and have chosen to remain informed through trustworthy sites like this. I am curious, though, why someone who would be unable to hold their own against such an aggressive prevaricator was chosen for this assignment. It seems the PTB wanted this outcome.

Expand full comment

I am not sure if I get a D.O.S.E. brain bath or not. Early on I realized that seeing his face (a good example is the still photo taken at his arraignment) with those reptilian eyes, is not good for me. It chills me with the evil I perceive in their depths. I now (for the past several years) hold my hand up to block out his image whenever it is on the nightly news. I have lately skipped many news videos I would normally watch because I can not bear to give Trump that much of my soul.

Agree. Leslie Stahl is not a junkyard dog, and Potatoface is. Just watching cable news often leaves me stunned, and it sounds like Stahl was.

I do not countenance descriptions of human beings in animal or vegetable terms, no matter how distasteful the person. Correct your comment, please.

Expand full comment

Yeah, isn't the wide range of invective based on fair and accurate observations of MTG enough? She's a world-class idiot, and extremely vicious as well.

Besides, consider the fate of the poor junkyard dogs, scrapping and scrabbling for a living and survival --- how would they feel if they heard that remark? Not good.

Expand full comment

well, I figure that when a "junkyard dog" gets lucky, he or she turns into a "companion animal" (I have a lot of trouble with calling them "pets" or saying in any way that there's some kind of legalistic "ownership" thing going on). after all, I gotta answer to the guy in my picture (and his little sister), and they're both pretty mouthy critics when they need to be.

Expand full comment

Leslie Stahl really seemed at a complete loss for how to respond. Pushing the pedophile answer further would certainly have caused a sharp reaction from MTG. She’d have likely shut the interview down. Ms Stahl looked overwhelmed and disgusted. She was an easy mark and the wrong reporter for the assignment.

I'll say it again. I do not allow descriptions of human beings, no matter how distasteful we find them, in terms of animals or vegetables. NO to "blonde baboon." Correct your comments, please.

Will do. My apology for the faux pas.

I didn't see the interview but from the consistent descriptions I wonder if it could hasten Stahl to a well-deserved retirement.

She looked tired, confused and disgusted. If it does hasten her retirement, it’s a shame to go out on a note like this. It casts shade on a lot of good work that she’s done.

Well, voluntary or forced, whenever she leaves she deserves a huge celebratory send-off as befits her huge career.

all true, but would it have really been so bad if MTG HAD "closed down" the interview? it would have been a lot more newsworthy than what actually happened.

My only hope is that MTG gets sued for defamation? It's working for Dominion, it's working for E. Jean Carroll. Is it an option? And really, how pathetic of Leslie Stahl!

I think MTG would have to "name names." And specifically allege illegal acts.

I didn't watch the interview because I am unable to stomach the sight and sound of the woman even for a few minutes. I could say I'm like Will Rogers and say as he did "I never met a man (and presumably woman) I didn't like" which for me is mostly true because I know we all have our little idiosyncrasies and character flaws (except me of course :) but People like Trump and MTG are so bad that it is difficult to understand how anyone could like them. But to expand on one item mentioned, the 2018 massacre, which left 17 students and staff dead. I remember distinctly that video footage of her calling the shooting a “false flag” operation. and stalking and harassing young man who was a survivor. I reaad that when asked about this by Stahl, Greene denied she ever said that . and when Stahl said they fact checked and showed her a screengrab of Greene’s now-deleted 2018 Facebook comment. she tried to deflect the focus by asking if she you fact-checked all her statements from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The noble thing to have done would have been to say she forgot she had believed that at one time and it was a foolish error of judgement. I guess no mention was made o in the interview or the clip shown of her harassing the student?

they showed a little of the clip. she was harassing David Hogg. at the time of that big demonstration, Laura Ingraham mocked him on air for not getting into any of the colleges he'd applied to. now he's at Harvard and gets lots of time on television. if he ran for something, he'd have MY vote.

I wonder which schools rejected him...
