it's not so much the fact of the indictment itself, but the fact that it's such a TOTAL slam dunk.
as much as I hate to admit to being in any way wrong about TFF, I really did sorta buy into his "I'm too dumb to run anything" shtick. and now it turns out that he was, in fact, the stupid criminal mastermind in this incredibly stupid matter.
it also turns out that he was the moron who liked to get everything on tape.
I was thinking the Pointer Sisters and losing control...which at my age would have to do with a different bodily function. Now...Georgia for the hat trick! All of our dreams come true.
Great column. I have always liked Lawrence O'Donnell's work, which is informed by his being a lawyer and having Senate Committee experience. It is not necessary to explain why Lardass's lawyers look like extras in a Mafia movie. It's not even necessary to wonder why he shot his mouth off about "the rabid Jack Smith" and "No former president has ever been treated the way I have." (Short answer: He can't shut up, and no other president has pulled his kind of stunts.)
Forget the popcorn. Or don't. What is coming is retribution of an order most of us have never seen. And yes, schadenfreude like most of us have never experienced. Bring on the mug shot, and send in the clown.
you're right about everything Margo, except I believe that Lawrence O'Donnell is not actually an attorney. he knows the law and he knows how to give a good, spiky interview but he didn't actually (so far as I can make out) go to law school.
You could very well be right. I assumed he had a law degree because Committee staffers are often lawyers, and he seemed to know his way around legal statutes.
I watched Lawrence O'Donnell eviscerate Parlatore. What an amazing exchange. I couldn't believe what Parlatore was revealing, or maybe making up on the fly, about what the defense would be. I think Lucian's ending comment about Parlatore's legal career going forward may be spot on.

Just read comments to the WaPo article. Here's a classic: "Well, whaddya know, a witch hunt yields a witch." Also: "I understand Lindsey Graham is rioting in the street." Do read the comments, there are some goodies.
It would have to be an update of The Producers, with the nested "designed to fail" show being not Springtime for Hitler, but rather... hmm... [scratches head, trying to think of a title]... nominations:
You bring joy to my inbox every time you post. It's going to be a wonderful, wonderful week. As an aside, I wonder why the Saudis gave Jared $2 billion dollars. Just wondering, as one does
I know the feeling. it's one I had to try hard to cultivate, but it gets to a point where it actually can feel really good to admit to being wrong. of course, it's a little easier when being wrong has such sweet implications!
so how many asterisks has TFF already accrued? when will it stop? I hope it doesn't.
With thanks Heather Cox Richardson here what really tells you why Trump is in very, very deep, "... and fails to deliver it on demand to the officer or employee of the United States entitled to receive it” can be punished by as many as ten years in prison. " It's not accidentally taking home the documents after you leave office, it is withholding after being informed. This is what sets Trump apart from Biden and Pence and anyone else who discovers classified documents and called the appropriate parties and said, "Come get these documents."

It didn’t even take an hour for the Trump campaign to send its first fund-raising email off of the indictment. An appeal at 7:45 p.m. began, “We are watching our Republic DIE before our very eyes.” Trump has been struggling for campaign cash, and his first indictment, in Manhattan, briefly turbocharged his online fund-raising."
Twice impeached; twice indicted. Soon it should be thrice and who knows how many more. He's said it's going to be fought like a war. All he has is it was a big mistake. Too late for that. This is not one of those adolescent things where you get campused for a few days or weeks. The charges are very specific. And his attorneys are claiming that Smith did bad things in investigating. All the usual.
Great column today, Luc. O'Donnell gave other journalists a master class in how to interview such slippery, lying weasels, proving again, he IS the Gold Standard.
Well, I needed you to write this therapeutic piece. Love Lawrence with his understated style. Try to never miss his show but the Parlatore segment, (long!) was pure torture. If I needed a defense attorney and he was the only one available, I’d beg the court to lock me in a cell immediately. Agree with you Lucian he should put house on the market, turn in car and tell kids they are enrolling in public schools tomorrow.
If Trump or no one else knew the contents of the boxes, then how did he know that he declassify the documents with a waive of his hand? If you don’t know the contents, you don’t know that there is something that require declassifying.
The Big cheeto was just INDICTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, happy day
I am so excited I forgot to mention it's federal charges about the documents. Weasel your way out of this one.
Another bad day for Orange Foolius...what a pity.
Yippee, Skippee! Thanks for letting us (me) know, AJ.
What a great rundown. Parlatore is an idiot for sure and O'Donnell was masterful.
I’m so excited. He’s been indicted. I can’t stop singing and dancing!

Georgia gets Trump on tape committing multiple sins...slam dunk!
Or, "At Last" !!
God's ears were listening. I hoped she would.
😂😂 to bodily functions!

I WAS WRONG. I thought Garland would never act...I have tears in my eyes!
Respect
I concur, ~Shadowcloud~.
You're a big man, Runfastandwin, after all that naysaying.
I was most cynical. And I am overjoyed to be wrong!
Good on 'ya.

Disgusting...and the hornswoggled people who continue to send money to such a outright lying thief/grifter/loser are certifiable as well.
Wonder what took them so long to send. Must have written it weeks ago.
Really?? Nauseating!
LOL! How about "Really nauseating"?
Perfect!

If this had been a swordfight, Parlatore's clothes would have been in ribbons.
Grinning as I read this. It could play - with awards - on Broadway.
Trumpalot?
A law was broken...

Indictment!!! Now,I,want him indicted for the January 6 attempted coup!
I would like to see him found guilty of something for which capital punishment is REQUIRED.
That is the ONLY punishment that truly fits the sum total of all his crimes, including treason.
